Siri Helps Man Call 911 After His Car Plunges Into The River

So we have heard multiple stories about how the Apple Watch has been used to call for help in emergency situations. This is due to Siri being baked into the Apple Watch which allows it to be activated using voice commands. Now it looks like Siri has managed to potentially save another life.

According to a report from KIMT, 18-year old student Gael Salcedo was on his way to North Iowa Area Community College when his jeep hit a patch of ice on the road. Salcedo then lost control of his car where it swerved all over the place before it plunged right into the Winnebago River.

According to Salcedo, “I didn’t know where I was going and then I just didn’t know what to do. I was just thinking in my head ‘I think I’m going to die.’” As he could not find his phone, he did the next best thing which was to try and activate his phone using Siri to call for help, and it did. The Mason City Fire Department was called and arrived on the scene where they ultimately managed to assist Salcedo and take him to the ambulance where he was declared fine and released several hours later.

Latest Version Of Chrome Lets You Know If Your Password Has Been Stolen

In recent years, we’ve been hearing a lot about data breaches from hotels, retailers, carriers, and so on. As such, there is a lot of our personal information floating out there that we might not know about. It is also possible that with some of these breaches, there is a chance that usernames and passwords could have been compromised.

Now, there are ways to check if you have been breached, but if you’re unaware of these breaches, Google is here to help. In the latest version of Chrome, the browser can now warn users if their passwords have been stolen as part of a data breach. This will see Google match your current passwords against a database of known stolen passwords.

For those who are worried that this could result in another breach or leak, Google claims that they will be using hashed and encrypted copies of passwords and will match them using multiple layers of encryption, thus ensuring their integrity. Prior to this, Google already helped users check their passwords using extensions and other tools.

However, this required that users know about these extensions and tools, but now that it has been baked into Chrome itself, users who did not know about these things can now keep themselves secure.

Samsung Is Dominating The 5G Market, Accounts For Three-Quarters Of Shipments

In 2019, we saw the release of a handful of 5G smartphones. It wasn’t as many as we would like, but you know what, that actually worked out in Samsung’s favor. According to a report from IHS Markit, they claim that based on their numbers, it seems that Samsung has come out on top as far as 5G is concerned.

The firm claims that in Q3 2019, Samsung dominated the 5G smartphone market where their smartphones accounted for 74% of all 5G smartphones. Based on their numbers, Samsung had managed to ship 3.2 million 5G smartphones out of the 4.3 million or so smartphones in the global market.

This is also a huge step up from the previous quarter where apparently Samsung only managed to ship 1.5 million units. As it turns out, the 5G version of the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 contributed in a huge way, where it accounted for 1.6 million of those shipments alone, suggesting that customers were more excited for that particular model versus the 5G version of the Galaxy S10.

We expect that come 2020, Samsung and other companies will most likely be releasing more 5G handset models. Apple has also been rumored to be hopping on board the 5G bandwagon in 2020, so it will be interesting to see how both companies fare against each other.

In the Castle Rock Finale, Annie Wilkes' History of Violence Comes Full Circle

Castle Rock season two was, overall, a more satisfying viewing experience than season one—ramping up the pace and the supernatural horror while working in some nifty Stephen King Easter Eggs along the way.
