Samsung Android 10 update schedule doesn’t include Galaxy S8, Note 8

Samsung may seem to be turning a new leaf as far as Android updates go. While not exactly speedy, it does try to roll out monthly security patches more regularly than some of its competitors. It has also become a bit more public about its major Android updates, which suggests some level of confidence it can deliver on those promises. … Continue reading

Siri Hilariously Interrupts Meteorologist And Contradicts His Weather Forecast

Imagine giving a presentation, only to be halfway interrupted and potentially contradicted. How embarrassing would that be, right? Now imagine that happening live on TV where the interruption was not only unintentional, but also done in such a deadpan manner that you just can’t help but laugh.

That’s exactly what happened with meteorologist, Tomasz Schafernaker who was presenting the weather live on BBC. The meteorologist was talking about how there would snowy conditions in parts of the US Midwest, where suddenly out of the blue, Siri on his Apple Watch activated and chimed in by saying that there is no snow in its own forecast.

One of Schafernaker’s colleagues poked fun of him and the situation by saying, “There is snow in your forecast, I thought,” to which Schafernaker replied by saying, “Yeah but it probably doesn’t know what place I’m talking about.” We know that Apple has made huge improvements to Siri over the years, but we didn’t think that spot-on comedic timing was one of those improvements.

It is unclear how Siri was activated on his Apple Watch, but some have speculated that it could have been his settings where it was set to “Raise to speak”. In any case, if you have a minute to spare, you can check out the hilarious gaffe in the video above.

Beggars In China Go Hi-Tech By Accepting WeChat Pay

We’re sure that many of us have used the same excuse whenever a stranger comes up to us and starts begging for change. We tell them that we do not have any change to spare and we walk away. However, it seems that over in China, that excuse may no longer work as beggars are seemingly going the hi-tech route.

In a post on Facebook by user Fazil Irwan, he recounted an instance where his friends in China were approached by a beggar. When they tried to use the “sorry, I don’t have spare change” excuse, the person then whipped out a QR code which essentially allowed them to give them money using WeChat Pay, a commonly used service in China and certain parts of Asia.

According to Irwan, his friend then had little choice but to transfer the beggar some money. “In my previous post, I spoke about how almost everything is transacted through WeChat in China. It so happened that some of our friends went for dinner and a beggar on the road asked for money. One of our friends told the beggar that she didn’t have cash. The beggar said it’s ok, you can pay through WeChat. And that’s what she did 😂”

WeChat is probably one of the biggest messaging apps in China, so much so that it has grown and expanded where it can do more than just chat. We’ve seen instances in the past where people have used it to conduct transactions, such as purchasing property and taking out personal loans.

You Might Not Want To Use Apple’s Highlighter Tool To Censor Sensitive Information

One of the features of the iOS image editing tool is the highlighter. This allows users to highlight portions of text, which we imagine was the intended purpose, but we have also seen how some people have used the feature to try and censor sensitive information that they post onto social media.

This includes trying to censor names, dates, flight ticket numbers, and so on. It seems get the job done, but should you use it? Maybe not, because in a post on Reddit, u/M1ghty_boy has revealed that with a bit of image manipulation by cranking up the exposure, highlights, shadows, and contrast, you can actually reveal the information that was previously censored.

This is due to the default settings of the highlighter tool where its opacity is not set at 100%, meaning that it is somewhat see-through. Now, this isn’t really a bug or a security flaw since we imagine that this is not what Apple had intended, so we don’t think that it needs to be “fixed”. Instead, if you do need to censor information, try cranking up the opacity to 100% or use a solid color filled shape which will probably do a better job.

In the meantime, if you have any posts on social media that have been censored using the highlighter tool, then maybe you might want to take it down.
