OnePlus 8 wireless charging seemingly confirmed by WPC membership

Gone are the days when the industry had two competing wireless charging standards (cue XKCD strip) and, fortunately, it didn’t require creating a third standard to rule them all. The Wireless Power Consortium, which oversees all things Qi-related, was the last standard standing and now everyone that wants to officially make a device using the wireless charging tech has to … Continue reading

Animal Crossing-themed Nintendo Switch launching ahead of the new game

One of the benefits of a smaller, more compact, and more portable gaming console is that it’s easier to create skins and mods for it and flaunt it around wherever you go. That is definitely one of the perks of the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo is only too happy to tap into that potential cash cow. That is, for example, … Continue reading

FCC Wants To Fine One Man $13 Million For Making Illegal Robocalls

Robocalls can be annoying and disruptive, especially if you receive them multiple times in a day. This is why they have been made illegal, but then again with all things illegal, there will always be someone who tries to circumvent the system. Unfortunately for one individual, it seems that the FCC plans to make an example out of him.

In a document published on its website, the FCC has proposed hitting the man with a massive $13 million fine for spamming robocalls. It has been estimated that the man had made around 6,000 robocalls over six different states, which consisted of threats and racist remarks.

According to the FCC, “For example, the caller made unlawful, spoofed robocalls to target a community grappling with the recent murder of a local woman, threaten a journalist and newspaper, and attempt to influence a jury. Additionally, the caller made unlawful, spoofed robocalls related to political campaigns in California, Florida, and Georgia.”

They add, “The caller was apparently motivated by a belief that these actions would result in media notoriety and accordingly would enable him to increase publicity for his website and personal brand. In the process, he apparently broke the law.”

That being said, in the past few months, carriers have been rolling out anti-robocall features designed to help protect their customers from receiving such calls. These features were previously an optional paid subscription, but carriers have since made them free for their customers.

Next-Gen Apple Watch Could Sport A Flat, Touch-Sensitive Digital Crown

The way the Apple Watch has been designed, it features a dial sticking out at the side of it. Apple calls it the digital crown where users can use it to scroll through the menu, text messages, press it, and so on. However, perhaps in a future iteration of the Apple Watch’s design, Apple might slim it down.

According to a recently-discovered patent by AppleInsider, they have found a patent that seems to suggest that Apple might be looking to slim down the digital crown by making it flat. This means that the digital crown could be sitting flush against the case of the Apple Watch, similar to the power button on the Apple Watch at the moment.

That being said, with it being flat, how are users supposed to interact with it? According to the patent, it suggests that this new digital crown will be touch sensitive and could even recognize gestures.

The patent’s description reads, “[A touch Digital Crown] can also include one or more sensors, such as biosensors. The one or more sensors can be configured to sense substantially any type of characteristic such as, but not limited to, images, pressure, light, touch, force, temperature, position, motion, and so on.”

That being said, it is unclear if Apple will ever proceed with such a design. The Apple Watch hasn’t really undergone a huge redesign ever since its launch, so perhaps in the future it will, but until then maybe don’t get your hopes up just yet.

GMC Teases The Hummer’s Revival As An Electric Truck

It has been nearly a decade since the last Hummer was rolled off the production line. For those who love the truck and wouldn’t mind seeing a modern revival of it, you could be in luck because GMC recently posted a teaser on its website where they are hinting that the Hummer will be revived.

According to the teaser, GMC has revealed that the Hummer will be revived and brought back as an EV, or an electric truck. Given that many companies are starting to make the shift towards creating electric vehicles, it’s not surprising that GMC has chosen to bring the Hummer back as a more environmentally-friendly vehicle.

The company will be making a full reveal of the vehicle on the 20th of May, 2020, but in the meantime, they have teased the front portion of the car (see image above), as well as several specs of it. This includes how the new Hummer will feature up to 1,000 horsepower, 11,500 pounds/ft of torque, and the ability to go from 0-60mph in just three seconds.

The company did not mention what kind of range we might be able to expect, but like we said, the full announcement will take place in May, so we expect those details to be shared then. GMC is not alone in creating electric trucks. More recently, Tesla also took the wraps off its own electric truck in the form of the very futuristic-looking Cybertruck.
