Fujifilm X100V Might Come With A Two-Way Tilt Screen

These days our smartphones are more than capable of taking excellent photos, but there are times when a dedicated camera can still get the job done a lot better. This is namely due to a variety of factors, such as having a bigger sensor, bigger lens, better quality glass, and so on. If you’re after such a camera but rather not deal with having to change lenses, Fujifilm’s upcoming X100V could be worth checking out.

According to the latest rumors, it has been suggested that the X100V could actually be borrowing at least one feature from the X-Pro3, and that is its two-way tilt screen. In the past, the tilt screens on Fujifilm’s cameras have typically been limited to folding downwards, but with the X-Pro3, it can also flip out from the side.

Of course, whether or not this is a big deal to you depends on your needs. Having the ability to tilt the display at multiple angles is not a bad thing because it lets you get down low or up high while still being able to see your composition. Of course, many photographers have made do without such tilt screens so like we said, it depends on your needs and shooting style.

The X100V will be part of Fujifilm’s X100 series of compact cameras. It will be the fifth in the series and if the rumors are to be believed, it could launch as early as February 2020.

6.7-inch iPhone 12 Could Be Thinner Than The iPhone 11 Pro Max

One of the surprising changes that Apple made to its iPhones last year was longer battery life. For years, the company has been trying to compress its iPhones as much as possible to the point where they were forsaking features such as battery life in pursuit of thinness. That was why last year was rather surprising.

However, it seems that Apple could potentially be going back to slimming down its phones, or at least that’s according to a report from Mac Otakara who claims that the 2020 iPhone could be thinner than its predecessor.

According to the rumors, Apple could launch at least four iPhone models this year, one of which is a 6.7-inch model that will be the top of the line model. The report claims that it could come with a thickness of 7.4mm which makes it about 10% thinner than its predecessor, the iPhone 11 Pro Max.

We’re not sure if this thinness will come at the expense of battery life, but we’re certainly hoping that is not the case. Many reviews have since praised the extended battery life on Apple’s 2019 iPhones, so it would be shame for them to take a step backwards.

That being said, this is just a rumor for now so it’s probably best to take it with a grain of salt.

Apple Is Working On Preventive Healthcare Technology

We’ve known for a while that Apple is interested in the health technology sector. The Apple Watch is a prime example of that interest, where the device comes with several health monitoring tools such as a heart rate monitor and an ECG, both of which have managed to save multiple lives in the past.

However, Apple wants to explore more health technologies, more specifically, preventive ones. Speaking at a recent Q&A session with IDA Ireland CEO Martin Shanahan, Apple’s CEO Tim Cook was quoted as saying, “I think you can take that simple idea of having preventive things and find many more areas where technology intersects healthcare, and I think all of our lives would probably be better off for it.”

For those unfamiliar, preventive healthcare technology basically tries to detect a problem before it happens, as opposed to reacting to it when it does happen. For instance, Apple’s heart rate monitor could be considered preventive to a certain extent, as it informs users when it detects a heart rate that is abnormal, giving users time to seek medical help before it’s too late.

Cook adds, “Most of the money in healthcare goes to the cases that weren’t identified early enough. It will take some time but things that we are doing now – that I’m not going to talk about today – those give me a lot of cause for hope.”

Apple has also been rumored to be working on a non-invasive way of measuring glucose levels through the Apple Watch, although that has yet to be officially announced.

These Two Guys From Opposite Sides Of The World Just Created An ‘Earth Sandwich’

What is a sandwich? For most of us, a sandwich is basically two slices of bread with some kind of filling in the middle, and that’s what a student in an Auckland university tried to achieve by creating what can only be described as an “Earth sandwich”, where two slices of bread are placed at opposite ends of the Earth, with the Earth being in the middle, or the “filling” so to speak.

Speaking to RNZ, the student in question Etienne Naude managed to find someone living on other side of the world in Spain to help him out. “It’s amazing that we’ve actually been able to collaborate and do something like this at exact opposite points of the globe.”

He added, “We made sure to get the exact location with Google Maps, to get us within a few metres range, and then we used the actual image data on Google Maps to pinpoint ourselves even closer than that.”

Naude noted that due to the 12-hour time difference, it actually made this a lot harder to organize. There was also the issue of finding the precise opposite spot which was accessible and wasn’t covered by water and was also accessible for them to pull this off. While seemingly frivolous, it is actually a pretty fun idea and we’re glad that Naude managed to achieve what he calls a long-term goal of his.

Subaru Will Make The Shift To 100% Electric Cars By Mid 2030s

A lot of carmakers these days are creating electric cars or hybrids at the very least. This is because as the world starts to run out of fossil fuels, creating cars that don’t require them makes a lot of sense. In fact, Japanese carmaker Subaru has announced that by the mid 2030s, they plan to sell only electric cars.

As it stands, Subaru already sells hybrid and plug-in hybrids, but the company is expected to develop what they are calling a “strong hybrid” vehicle using Toyota’s technology. Speaking during a briefing, Chief Technology Officer Tetsuo Onuki said that despite using Toyota’s technology, they still want to make cars that are distinctively Subaru.

Onuki was quoted as saying, “Although we’re using Toyota technology, we want to make hybrids that are distinctly Subaru. It’s not only about reducing CO2 emissions. We need to further improve vehicle safety and the performance of our all-wheel drive.” Subaru also expects that by 2030, at least 40% of its cars sold will either consist of hybrids or battery powered electric vehicles.

Subaru’s approach and stance is an interesting one, where they expect their entire lineup to be fully electric by the mid 2030s. This is versus other carmakers such as Bentley and Ferrari who aren’t expected to debut full electric cars anytime soon.

Fortnite Now Runs At 120 FPS On The iPad Pro

One of the things that many gamers try to achieve when building their own PC is achieving a frames per second (FPS) of at least 60 FPS when playing at the highest settings possible. This is because 60 FPS offers a much smoother gameplay compared to 30 FPS, which is still very much playable, but not quite as smooth.

For those who play on their iPads, you might be interested to learn that in the latest update to Epic’s Fortnite Battle Royale, it looks like the game can now run on the iPad Pro at a whopping buttery smooth 120 FPS. Unfortunately, this does come at a slight compromise.

In order to achieve such high framerates, the quality of the game had to be downgraded where the settings will switch the game’s quality to a “medium” in order to hit 120 FPS. If framerates are more important compared to graphics, then this could be worth checking out. If not, then you will need to make do with a lower frames per second.

However, we should note that playing games at a higher FPS could be beneficial. Not too long ago, NVIDIA demoed how games that are played at a higher FPS could lead to better results. Of course, this won’t automatically make you a better Fortnite player, but if you’ve been struggling at lower FPS, maybe bumping it up to 120 FPS could yield some improvements.
