Check Out the Historic Weekend Blizzard Canadians Are Still Digging Out Of

It’s been one hell of a weekend in eastern Canada. Less of a “snow day,” more of a—and, yes, this is a real weather term—“bomb cyclone.” The capital of Newfoundland, St. John’s, was hit with 30 inches of snow in 24 hours, shattering a previous record, the Weather Channel reported. Officials also recorded snowdrifts as…

Users Complaining AirPods Pro Noise Cancellation Is Worse After Firmware Update

One of the unique selling points of the AirPods Pro compared to the regular AirPods is that they come with active noise cancelling. However, it seems that this defining trait of the AirPods Pro has been sort of nullified in the latest firmware update Apple issued to the earphones, where users are complaining that noise cancellation on the AirPods Pro is actually now worse.

It is unclear if the firmware update did anything that affected the noise cancelling feature, but unfortunately, since there is no changelog, no one really knows except for Apple, and the company has been keeping mum ever since. To make matters worse, firmware updates aren’t something that users can opt not to participate in.

The firmware update for the AirPods happens entirely in the background without users knowing when it takes place. In a way, this is good as it ensures that the earphones are constantly updated, but at the same time, it’s bad because it can lead to situations like this where users do not have an option to not install the latest update.

That being said, as The Verge points out, Apple is not alone in this. In the past, Bose and Sony customers have also similarly complained that noise cancelling on their headphones was affected following firmware updates. It is unclear if this is actually happening or if it is merely perception.

iOS 13.3.1 To Address iPhone 11 Privacy Issues

Last year there was a bit of controversy surrounding the iPhone 11 when it was discovered that even when users told the phone not to use location services, it would still continue to do so. Apple later offered an explanation in which they said that this was due to the use of the U1 ultra wideband chip that made its debut in the iPhone 11 models.

According to Apple back then, “iOS uses Location Services to help determine if an iPhone is in these prohibited locations in order to disable ultra wideband and comply with regulations. The management of ultra wideband compliance and its use of location data is done entirely on the device and Apple is not collecting user location data.”

That being said, the good news is that in the beta of iOS 13.3.1, it has been discovered that Apple will be adding in a toggle switch that will allow users to completely disable it. This was posted on Twitter by Brandon Butch where it seems that in the upcoming iOS update, users will be able to disable the ultra wideband chip.

That being said, turning off the chip could have some side-effects on the functionality of your device. There are rumors suggesting that Apple could be planning to debut a Tile-like tracking accessory that would leverage the U1 chip, so disabling it could also render the accessory useless.

Tesla Cars Are Suddenly Accelerating For No Reason, Investigation Underway

Modern cars have definitely gotten a lot smarter compared to cars back in the day, where they are now equipped with computers and sensors that are supposed to make the driving experience better. However, sometimes the addition of technology can make things worse and more complicated.

Take for example a recent petition in which it is urging the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to formally recall 500,000 Tesla vehicles over complaints that for whatever reason, these Tesla cars are suddenly accelerating by themselves seemingly out of the blue, leading to crashes and accidents.

In one extreme case, one Tesla owner alleges that their vehicle, a 2015 Tesla Model S 85D was closed and locked when suddenly, the car started accelerating forward where it crashed into a parked car. Another driver claimed that they were driving up to their garage door when the car suddenly lurched forward, driving through the garage door in the process and only stopping when it hit a wall.

It is unclear as to what is causing these cars to suddenly accelerate, but Tesla has yet to officially comment on the petition and the NHTSA’s review of the petition.
