Adobe’s Flash platform has been slowly deprecated from use over the years. Companies who have developed browsers, such as Apple, have also disabled the feature by default a few years ago. Unfortunately, it seems that there are still malware out there that is infecting Mac computers.
According to a report from Kaspersky, it appears that the Shlayer Trojan is still making its rounds on Mac computers. This is a malware that disguises itself as a Flash Player update. It will prompt users to install the latest update, but in reality, it will install a trojan on the computer, giving hackers backdoor access to your Mac.
The report claims that this malware has infected an estimated 1 out of 10 Mac computers to date. It is by no means not a new piece of malware and has actually been making its rounds since 2018, but as Kaspersky’s report suggests, it does not look like it will be going away anytime soon.
Kaspersky says, “Having studied the Shlayer family, we can conclude that the macOS platform is a good source of revenue for cybercriminals. The Trojan links even reside on legitimate resources — attackers are adept in the art of social engineering, and it is hard to predict how sophisticated the next deception technique will be.”

If you are playing Harmonix’s Rocket League on either a Mac or Linux computer, you might want to take note that the developer has announced that they will be dropping support for online multiplayer for the game on both those platforms. This will take place in March after a final patch for the game has been released.
According to Harmonix, “As we continue to upgrade Rocket League with new technologies, it is no longer viable for us to maintain support for the macOS and Linux (SteamOS) platforms. As a result, the final patch for the macOS and Linux versions of the game will be in March. This update will disable online functionality (such as in-game purchases) for players on macOS and Linux.”
However, the developer notes that this only applies to online multiplayer. The game will continue to function just fine, except that it will be pretty much limited to offline play like Local Matches. Gamers who want to play with their friends will still be able to do so, except that it will be limited to local multiplayer with splitscreen play.
It is a pity that the game is losing its online multiplayer feature, so that’s something you’ll want to keep in mind come this March, especially if you take advantage of the feature quite a bit.

Apple TV+ is fairly new to the scene having launched just last year, but according to a report from the Wall Street Journal, it seems to be doing pretty well because in terms of subscribers, Apple TV+ is reported to have more subscribers compared to the likes of Hulu, who has been around for a while, and the recently-launched Disney Plus.
The report claims that Apple TV+ has 33.6 million subscribers, versus Hulu which has 31.8 million and Disney Plus who plays home to about 23.2 million subscribers. That being said, these figures might not necessarily be as impressive as we think. This is because Apple TV+ is being given away for free with any purchase of a new Apple device.
This will be a free subscription for an entire year, after which it will be priced at $4.99 a month. It is unclear how many customers will actually continue to pay and stay subscribed to Apple TV+ once the free year is up, so that will probably be the most crucial bit. However, it’s smart of Apple to lure customers in with a free subscription in hopes of locking them in.
That being said, $4.99 a month is still a lot cheaper compared to other streaming services, plus over the year, we expect that more shows will eventually be added to it, potentially making it more compelling for users.

Xiaomi’s Pocophone F1 turned heads in 2018 not because it was the best of the best but because it dared to put some of the best hardware components in a polycarbonate (read: plastic) body and then slapped on a dirt-cheap price tag. For a time, it seemed that POCO would be a one-hit-wonder but now the spin-off company is confirming … Continue reading
