Sony Xperia 1 II Launched With 5G In Tow

While Sony might be somewhat quiet these days when it comes to flagships, the company is still very much in the game. In fact, Sony has recently announced their latest flagship handset in the form of the Sony Xperia 1 II, the successor to last year’s smartphone where it will come with a host of improvements and changes.

One of the biggest changes we’re seeing with the Xperia 1 II is the addition of 5G. Given that more smartphones are expected to include 5G support this year, it doesn’t really come as a surprise to learn that the Xperia 1 II will feature support for it. Other features of the phone include the use of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865 chipset, a 6.5-inch 4K OLED screen with a tall aspect ratio of 21:9, Dolby Atmos support, and also a brand new camera.

With this new camera, Sony will be using a Zeiss branded lens with T* coating that helps reduce reflections. There will be a triple camera setup on the back where they will all sport 12MP sensors, with one featuring a 16mm f/2.2 lens, one with a 70mm f/2.4 lens, and the third will feature a 24mm f/1.7 lens. There will also be the inclusion of a 3D time of flight sensor.

Other features of the phone include a 4,000mAh battery that according to Sony, will last longer than expected thanks to the use of new battery algorithms that are designed to optimize it. The Sony Xperia 1 II will be released this spring, but there is no mention of pricing just yet.

iOS 14 Could Feature iPad-Like Multitasking For The iPhone

One of the new features that Apple introduced to the iPad with iPadOS 13 is a new way of multitasking. Now it looks like Apple could be thinking about taking that feature and bringing it to the iPhone in iOS 14, or at least that’s what seems to be suggested according to a recent video.

This video was shared on Twitter by leakster Ben Geskin, who has in the past been pretty accurate with his leaks. It shows that with iOS 14, Apple could adopt a different approach to multitasking on iPhones, although whether or not there will be any functional changes remains to be seen, or whether or not it is purely for aesthetic purposes.

However, Geskin does seem to note that it is possible for users to pin an app to the multitasking screen, although we’re not sure exactly for what kind of purposes. He was also unable to confirm if the iPhone could also be getting side-by-side Split View multitasking, a feature found on the iPad and something that many users have been asking for.

A more robust multitasking system is something iOS users have been asking for, and a feature that can be found on many Android devices. Maybe this new multitasking design could be a sign of things to come, but we’ll probably have to wait until WWDC 2020 for all the official details.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Will Be Arriving On Steam Early Access This Year

According to a recent report, it has been suggested that Baldur’s Gate 3 could be released this year. How true are those rumors? It is unclear how true or accurate they are, but they are certainly being corroborated with a new report where it seems that Hasbro has given it away that Baldur’s Gate 3 will be released on Steam Early Access this year.

For those who are unfamiliar, Steam Early Access is basically Steam’s version of beta testing. This is where gamers are able to access games that are still in their beta and give them a spin. This is usually not necessarily representative of when the game will actually be released, but the fact that Hasbro has plans to launch it in beta means that it should be close to completion.

The company does not mention when exactly the game will be available on Steam Early Access, so we’ll just have to wait and see. Whether or not the final release will also take place this year remains to be seen, but if you’re a fan of Baldur’s Gate, then this is definitely worth keeping an eye out for.

Unlike the previous two Baldur’s Gate titles that were developed by BioWare, the latest entry in the Baldur’s Gate franchise will be developed by Larian Studios, the same game developer responsible for Divinity: Original Sin 2.

Petnet’s smart pet feeder system is back after a week-long outage, but customers are still waiting for answers

Petnet, the smart pet feeder backed by investors including Petco, recently experienced a week-long system outage affecting its second-generation SmartFeeders. While the startup’s customer service recently tweeted that its SmartFeeders and app’s functionality have been restored, Petnet’s lack of responsiveness continues to leave many customers frustrated and confused.

Petnet first announced on Feb. 14 that it was investigating a system outage affecting its second-generation SmartFeeders that made the feeders appear to be offline. The company said in a tweet that the SmartFeeders were still able to dispense on schedule, but several customers replied that their devices had also stopped dispensing food or weren’t dispensing it on schedule.

On Feb. 19, the company said that it is “working closely with our third-party service provider in regards to the outage,” before announcing on Feb. 22 that the SmartFeeders are returning online.

During that time, customers voiced frustration at the company’s lack of responses to their questions on Twitter and Facebook. Messages to the company’s support email and CEO Carlos Herrera were undeliverable.

TechCrunch tried contacting their emails and got delivery failure notices. A message sent to their Twitter account was also not replied to. We have contacted the company again for comment.

Petnet also experienced a similar system outage last month.

According to Crunchbase, Petnet.io has raised $14.9 million since it was founded in 2012, including a Series A led by Petco.

In a statement sent to TechCrunch over the weekend before Petnet said the outage was resolved, a Petco representative said “Petco is a minor and passive investor in Petnet, but we do not have any involvement in the company’s operations nor insight into the system outage they are currently experiencing.
