Samsung Wants To Sell Its Foldable Displays To Other Companies

Samsung has been working on foldable displays for quite a while now, and last year, the technology finally made its debut on the Samsung Galaxy Fold smartphone. To date, there still aren’t that many companies coming forward with similar devices, but that could change in the future.

This is because Samsung Display has announced the commercialization of its ultra-thin glass that can be used in the development of smartphones with foldable displays. According to Dennis Choi, vice president of the mobile display marketing team at Samsung Display, “With our existing polyimide cover window, development of the new extremely flexible UTG cover window ‘Samsung UTG’ now enables us to meet more demanding customer needs.”

He adds, “Clearly, Samsung UTG is a highly enticing manufacturing alternative which serves as another important example of our dedication to technology advancement and manufacturing excellence.” It is unclear as to who might be looking to purchase Samsung’s foldable displays, but with Samsung making it available to other companies, it should lead to the development of more similar devices.

So far, we can only count four companies that have made (or are making) foldable devices. This includes Samsung, Huawei, Motorola, and Royole. At the moment the jury is still out on foldable devices, where it does seem to be a good idea in concept, the execution so far has been met with mixed reviews.

Marshall’s Latest Pair Of Headphones Come With Active Noise Cancellation

Despite being primarily known as a company that makes amplifiers and equipment for musicians, Marshall has over the years slowly gained a reputation for creating some pretty amazing audio products in the form of consumer grade headphones and Bluetooth speaker systems.

In fact, Marshall has recently debuted their latest pair of headphones that comes in the form of the Marshall Monitor II ANC, which is the successor to the original Marshall Monitor headphones, but with the added bonus of active noise cancellation (hence the ANC in its name).

According to Marshall, they claim that users will be able to expect up to 30 hours of battery life with the headphones while ANC is on, and up to 45 hours of battery life if the feature is turned off. There is also support for quick charging where a 15 minute charge will give you an extra 5 hours of battery.

In addition to active noise cancellation, the headphones will also feature a new multi-directional control knob that lets users control music playback and certain phone functions from the headphones themselves. If you’re interested in these headphones, the Marshall Monitor II ANC will be going on sale on the 17th of March where they will retail for $319.

Sony Is Hoping Their Deal With Marvel Will Continue

For a brief moment in time, the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) seemed like it was in trouble. This is because due to an inability to negotiate a deal, both Sony and Marvel announced that they would no longer be working together, meaning that the third Spider-Man film would not be part of the MCU.

However, this spat did not last very long as both companies have since arrived at a new deal, which is said to be thanks to Spider-Man actor, Tom Holland. Now it seems that both companies are quite chummy with each other again, and during a recent roundtable, Sony exec Tom Rothman expressed his interest and hope that both Sony and Marvel could continue working together beyond the third Spider-Man movie.

Rothman was quoted as saying, “I think this was a classic win, win, win. I think it was a win for Sony, I think it was a win for Disney, and I think it was a win for the fans.” That being said, it is unclear what kind of new Sony/MCU movie there could be following the third Spider-Man movie, which is due for a release next year.

However, recently there was a report that revealed that Sony has a new Marvel movie pegged for late 2021, and given that the Spider-Man and Morbius movies have been announced, many are curious as to what this movie could be.

Galaxy S20 5G teardown is thankfully boring but has one big problem

After the Motorola Razr and then the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip hit the market, they were naturally subjected to the rough treatment that only durability tests and teardowns could give. Considering their novelty, it was also no surprise that both foldable phones weren’t exactly that easy to properly pry open. In contrast, the Galaxy S20 seems to be a walk … Continue reading

Flat Earther Mad Mike Hughes dies in homemade rocket crash

Reaching the skies has always been one of man’s dreams. Going beyond the clouds to the stars is another. Both dreams, however, require more than just theory and study but long years, even decades, of testing and, in modern society, government regulation. That hasn’t stopped dreamers from crafting their own aircraft to beat the odds and the system. Sometimes they … Continue reading

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X60 Modems Might Find Its Way Into 2021’s iPhones

It is largely expected that Apple’s iPhones could be using Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X55 modems this year for 5G connectivity. This relationship between Apple and Qualcomm is also expected to continue for a while, which is why it doesn’t come as a surprise to hear that it is possible that with 2021’s iPhones, Apple could be using Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X60 modem.

Qualcomm has recently announced their latest modem in the form of the Snapdragon X60. This makes it the company’s third-gen 5G modem and one of the features is that it is built on the 5nm process. This means that the modem will have a smaller footprint compared to the X55 which was built on the 7nm process.

What this could mean for the iPhone is that it could end up being smaller/thinner due to the smaller chipset. Alternatively, Apple could maintain the size of the iPhone but they could also use the space to fill it with other hardware features. That being said, there is no guarantee that the X60  will find its way into the 2021 iPhones, but like we said, given that Apple could be working with Qualcomm for a while, it wouldn’t come as a surprise if it did.

In the meantime, we have heard the rumors that Apple could be working on their own 5G modems, but it is said that these modems could still be quite a ways from it being officially announced and used.

Smartphone Addiction Found To Physically Alter Our Brains

Most of us these days have smartphones. These are incredible devices that allow us to do more than make phone calls. We can surf the web, play games, draw, record high-quality videos and photos, and more. With that, it’s not surprising that there are some who spend more time on their phones compared to others.

However, it seems that maybe we should consider putting our phones down every now and then. This is because according to a recent study, researchers have used MRI machines and found that those who have been classified as having a smartphone addiction were found to have physically altered brains similar to what doctors see in drug addicts.

The test was conducted on 48 people, 22 of whom were categorized as having smartphone addiction. According to the researchers from Heidelberg University, “Given their widespread use and increasing popularity, the present study questions the harmlessness of smartphones, at least in individuals that may be at increased risk for developing smartphone-related addictive behaviors.”

Smartphone addiction isn’t new nor is it unheard of, but these findings are indeed worrisome. To that end, companies such as Apple and Google have introduced features to their phones and operating systems meant to help reduce the time that users spend on them.

Nissan’s Car Subscription Service Lets You Swap Out Cars Everyday

Subscription models are all the rage these days, especially on the software front. However, it seems that the subscription model is starting to spill over for physical products as well. Nissan has recently announced a brand new service called the Nissan Switch where for a monthly subscription fee, it would allow users to access a bunch of Nissan cans on demand.

According to Nissan executive Andrew Tavi, “Nissan Switch is another way that Nissan is testing alternatives to the notion of traditional mobility, without long-term financial commitments for our customers. This program provides more choice, convenience, and flexibility. For those who want a sedan during the week and an SUV or sports car, like the GTR, on the weekends, Nissan Switch provides the solution.”

It should be noted that Nissan is not the first nor are they alone when it comes to car subscription programs. Previously, we’ve seen companies such as Porsche launch similar initiatives as well. Presumably, the idea is that this will make cars more accessible to the masses, while at the same time ensuring that there is a steady stream of revenue.

The upside is that if you don’t need to drive so often, this could be a potentially cheaper alternative. The base subscription for Nissan Switch will be priced starting at $699 a month, but it can also go up to $899 a month if you want to access some of the company’s more premium car models.
