U.S. Moves Closer Towards National Shutdown To Limit Coronavirus Spread

WhatsApp Could Soon Introduce Disappearing Messages

With some messaging apps and social media platforms, there is the option to post content temporarily before it disappears forever. In fact, recently Twitter has been toying with such a feature. Now it looks like WhatsApp could get something similar as well, at least that’s according to the latest beta discovered by WABetaInfo.

According to the latest beta, it seems that there is evidence to suggest that WhatsApp could be looking to test out disappearing messages. This feature will allow users to send messages to each other where they can then set a duration in which the messages will delete after a set period of time.

Based on the current settings, this ranges between an hour to up to a year. If you’re looking to create a private conversation that you don’t want anyone to see, you could set it for an hour, after which all messages will disappear. This is more effective compared to deleting chats, because deleting a chat on your end doesn’t mean it is deleted on the other person’s end.

That being said, it is unclear when this feature will roll out to users. Usually features spotted in the beta tend to take a while before they go live, and when they do, it might be slightly different from what was in the beta, so that’s something to take note of.

Apple Card Users Can Skip March’s Payments Without Incurring Penalties

Due to how big of an impact the coronavirus is having on the world’s economy, there are some people who might be out of a job. As such, some might not even be able to make ends meet, such as paying rent, paying for utilities, food, let alone credit card payments. The good news is that Apple is trying to do their part to help.

The company has informed Apple Card holders who might be impacted by the coronavirus that they will be able to enroll themselves in a new financial assistance program. By taking part in this program, it will let them skip March’s payment without incurring any financial penalties, such as late fees or interest in that particular billing cycle.

It should be noted that customers will still need to pay their bills eventually, it’s just that if you don’t have enough money for the month of March to pay off March’s bill, you can skip it and pay it off next month without worrying about late fees or interest.

According to the email sent out by Apple to Apple Card holders, “We understand that the rapidly-evolving COVID-19 situation poses unique challenges for everyone and some customers may have difficulty making their monthly payments. Apple Card is committed to helping you lead a healthier financial life.”

In the meantime, US carriers have also announced that they will be temporarily suspending account cancellations and waiving late fees.

iPhone 12’s A14 Chipset Could Be More Powerful Than The iPad Pro

With every release of a new A-series chipset, Apple naturally improves on the performance of it. However, what was impressive is that with the 2018 iPad Pro, benchmarks found that the A12X Bionic chipset was actually more powerful compared to Windows-based PCs, at least that’s what it seemed on paper.

However, it seems that with the A14 chipset that is expected to debut in this year’s iPhone 12, Apple could take things to the next level. According to alleged benchmarks for the A14 chipset found on Geekbench, it looks like the A14 chipset could outperform that of the iPad Pro, and that it could also be the first A-series chipset to go past the 3GHz mark.

Based on the benchmarks, the A14 is said to score 1,658 in terms of single-core performance, while the multi-core score achieved 4,612. This is versus the iPad Pro’s A12X which scored 1,110 for single-core and 4,568 for multi-core. It should be noted that Apple’s iPad AX chipsets tend to be more powerful than the iPhone, so this interesting to see these comparisons made.

Also, if the benchmarks are accurate, it does lend support to the idea of future MacBook laptops being powered by ARM-based processors. In fact, there was a recent rumor which suggested that an ARM-based MacBook could arrive late 2020 or early 2021, and it will be interesting to see how it holds up compared to Intel-based MacBooks.
