Another Person Falls Victim To The MacBook Lemonade Scam

Earlier this month, a student was reported to have fallen victim to a scam, where he thought he was purchasing a brand new MacBook laptop, but instead ended up with two bottles of lemonade. Unfortunately, it seems that despite these scams being made public, it looks like the scam has claimed another victim.

According to a report from Birmingham Live, a man by the name of Dylan Obeegadoo is the latest victim of this scam. The victim claims that he was approached by two men called James and Frankie, where they approached him at the Churchill Shopping Centre. The scammers offered Obeegadoo the opportunity to inspect the items, which he claims were real.

He then headed to the ATM to withdraw £500, which is what the scammers were “selling” the product for, before meeting them outside at their car. Once again, as with the previous scam, both James and Frankie had somehow managed to pull the same bait-and-switch routine and handed Obeegadoo a cardbox box that contained a couple of bottles of lemonade instead of the computer he thought he paid for.

The victim has since reported the scam to the police, but they told him that apparently they can’t do anything about it. This goes to show that if something sounds too good to be true, then perhaps it might be.

Future MacBook Pros Could Support Touchless Gestures

The idea of being able to interact with our devices without touching it isn’t anything new. In fact, Google’s Pixel 4 series introduced Motion Sense, where users could interact with the phone without having to physically touch it, and now it looks like Apple could be exploring a similar idea for future MacBook laptops.

According to a patent that was discovered by AppleInsider, Apple seems to be working on a piece of tech that would allow users to interact with MacBook laptops without having to touch it. This will rely on the MacBook having a Touch Bar, because the tech would be built into the display itself where it comes with a sensing strip.

The patent describes how the sensing strip will detect things like hand or finger movement while it hovers above the display, and from there, it will be able to execute certain functions. For example, users might be able to control the volume by hovering their finger over the Touch Bar, and then moving it to the left or right to increase or decrease the volume.

That being said, with it being a patent, there’s no telling if Apple plans on ever making it a reality. While touchless gestures do seem like they have potential, so far the implementation of the tech makes it feel more novel than useful.

Apple Reportedly Tells Retail Workers Not To Encourage Customers To Try AirPods Or Apple Watch

There are many who are undoubtedly concerned about the spread of the coronavirus. One of the ways to prevent the spread is to keep ourselves as clean as possible by washing our hands, using hand sanitizer, and to avoid touching our faces. So much so that Apple is now trying to prevent customers from trying on certain products in their stores.

According to a report from Business Insider, they have heard from their sources that Apple is apparently instructing its retail employees not to encourage customers from trying the AirPods or the Apple Watch in its stores. While customers are still welcome to try the products for themselves, the employees are reportedly told not to offer to allow customers to try those products unless they are specifically asked by the customer.

This is part of Apple’s plan to help protect both its staff and customers, where it is impossible to tell at a glance who might have the coronavirus, and as such, it’s better to be safe than sorry. In addition to this, Apple has also boosted their attempts at keeping their stores as sanitized as possible.

This includes hiring more cleaning staff, installing hand sanitizers, and also hourly-paid employees are now allowed to take sick leave without having it count towards their limits.
