Command & Conquer Remaster Arrives in June

These days, one of the popular things for developers and publishers to do is release remasters of older titles. In a way this is not a bad thing, especially since there are many of us who have played games from back in the day that we wouldn’t mind playing again, especially with updated visuals and improvements.

Now, EA did previously tease that they were planning on releasing a remaster of their classic Command & Conquer RTS, and the good news is that the company has since confirmed that the remaster will now be released in June. This includes both Command & Conquer: Tiberian Dawn and Command and Conquer: Red Alert where both games will be updated with new graphics where they will now support playback on 4K displays.

For those who are unfamiliar, Command & Conquer was one of the early RTS games released way back in the day. It led to other companies creating their own takes, such as Blizzard which resulted in the immensely popular StarCraft series. EA’s plans for the remaster was originally announced back in November 2018, and it looks like after nearly 2 years later, the game is now ready to be played.

It remains to be seen how well the game will hold up in this day and age, so we’ll have to wait for a few more months before we can get our hands on it.

E3 2020 Has Been Cancelled Over Coronavirus Concerns

The coronavirus does not seem like it is slowing down, where there are more reported cases everyday. As a result, many are advising that people keep themselves at home and to stay away from crowded places where the virus could be easily spread from one person to another. As a result, several events have been cancelled.

If you’ve been looking forward to E3 and what the organizers have in store for us this year, then you’ll be disappointed to learn that the ESA (the organizers of the event) have announced that due to growing concerns about the spread of the virus, they have decided that they will be cancelling E3 this year.

According to the ESA, “Following increased and overwhelming concerns about the COVID-19 virus, we felt this was the best way to proceed during such an unprecedented global situation. We are very disappointed that we are unable to hold this event for our fans and supporters.  But we know it’s the right decision based on the information we have today. Our team will be reaching out directly to exhibitors and attendees with information about providing full refunds.”

The semi-good news is that there is a chance that the event could still take place, albeit online. The organizers have stated that they are exploring options that could help create an online experience that will help companies showcase what they’ve got in terms of developments, but it remains to be seen how that will play out.

Microsoft To Host Online Xbox Event In Wake Of E3 Cancellation

The ESA has recently announced that they will not be hosting E3 2020 this year. This is due to the coronavirus outbreak that has infected thousands around the world, with no signs that it is slowing down anytime soon. This means that any announcements you might have expected from developers and companies may no longer be taking place.

However, if you are looking forward to learning what Microsoft has in store in terms of Xbox-related announcements, you’ll be pleased to find out that according to Microsoft’s Xbox head, Phil Spencer, he has revealed that the company has plans to host an online Xbox event in which they will share the news on what Microsoft is up to in terms of Xbox games and development of the next-gen console.

The exact timing of the event and how gamers can participate is unclear, but Spencer notes that they will be sharing those details in the coming weeks. As for E3 2020, while the physical event itself has been cancelled, the organizers did state that they are exploring a way to perhaps create an online event that will allow companies to share what they’ve been working on online.

Once again, there is no word on when or how that will happen, so check back with us for more updates.

ARM-Based MacBook Laptops Could Be Coming Late 2020

According to long-standing rumors, Apple is said to be working on creating an ARM-based MacBook laptop. Given that benchmarks of Apple’s more recent mobile chipsets have shown them to be incredibly powerful, it’s not surprising that Apple could be toying with the idea of harnessing that power and putting it into a laptop.

A more recent rumor has suggested that these laptops could actually come in the next 18-months, but it looks like it could actually come sooner than we think. This is according to a recent investor’s note from Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, where he claims that an ARM-based MacBook laptop could actually come by the end of the year, or at the very latest, Q1 of 2020.

It is unclear which of Apple’s lineup the ARM chipsets will be going into. As it stands, Apple has three different MacBook models, the MacBook, the MacBook Air, and the MacBook Pro. However, it will be interesting to see how they fare against Intel-based MacBooks, although ARM-based laptops aren’t exactly new as we have seen Qualcomm’s chipsets used in laptops in the past.

Also, we have to wonder how this will work out in terms of app compatibility, given that apps created for ARM-based devices might not be compatible with apps written for Intel/AMD CPUs.

Brand New MacBook Design Planned For 2021

For several years now, Apple has maintained the design of its MacBook laptops, where some of the more major design changes include new color options, a built-in OLED display above the keyboard, and a new 16-inch display. But for the most part, on the outside, the MacBooks have kept that look for many years now.

While it’s not a bad look, we’re sure that there are some who probably think that it is time for a change, and the good news is that you would only have to wait until next year. This is according to notable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who claims that come mid-2021, Apple could be introducing a brand new MacBook design.

Kuo does not state which models will be getting the new design, but given Apple’s penchant for uniformity, we wouldn’t be surprised if all models were to eventually receive the updated design. Also, it is unclear what kind of design changes we could be looking at, but if you are hoping for a new MacBook design and you don’t need a new laptop right now, maybe holding out until next year might not be the worst idea.

In the meantime, Kuo has also stated that Apple’s long-rumored ARM-based MacBooks could actually be launching in the later part of this year or early 2021.

New MacBook Pro, MacBook Air With Scissor Switch Keyboard To Launch By June

While no one has doubted the power that Apple’s MacBooks can put out, one of the problems with the older models is the use of the butterfly keyboard switch mechanism that resulted in many a dead keyboard. Apple later changed it when they launched the 16-inch MacBook Pro in 2019 with a “new” scissor switch design.

We expected that Apple would eventually bring this new keyboard design to the rest of its laptops, and according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, he claims that this will be taking place by June 2020. The analyst believes that Apple will be launching new MacBook Pro and MacBook Air models by the middle of the year, and we can’t say we’re too surprised.

Apple typically refreshes its laptops at least once a year, so a refresh by mid-year makes a lot of sense. The refresh, in addition to offering faster CPUs, will also be updated with the new scissor switch keyboard, which is good news for those who can’t afford or don’t need the 16-inch MacBook Pro model.

What’s interesting is that in an earlier report by Kuo, he claims that Apple might actually kill off the 13-inch MacBook Pro model in favor of a 14-inch model. This is said to be similar to the 16-inch model where it managed to retain the size of the 15-inch model by shrinking the bezels of the display.

iPad Stock In China is Running Low As More People Are Staying At Home

As the coronavirus has forced people to stay home to work or either study, in a bid to help prevent the spread of the virus, it seems that some companies are actually standing to gain from this pandemic. Apple is one of those companies where according to a report from the Nikkei Asian Review, the iPad is running out of stock in China.

Speaking to the publication, a person familiar with the matter was quoted as saying, “Later the need surged even higher when China opened schools but asked students to take the courses online. The shortage of the ‌iPad‌ range is up to four weeks of waiting, especially for the cheaper models. The supply could not meet the pace of the demand at all.”

This does not actually come as a surprise, because prior to this, there was a report that indicated that the iPad was seeing a surge in demand in China due to the increasing number of people who are staying home. There have also been reports that suggests that app stores could also be gaining financially as more people are looking for ways to keep themselves entertained.

That being said, it should be noted demand for the tablets could soon outweigh the supply. This is because many factories in China, where the iPad is made, have also been shutdown, meaning that it will be hard for Apple to restock the tablets once they’ve sold out. It was also previously suggested that this could also impact the rumored iPhone SE 2’s launch along with the 2020 iPhone 12 models.

Motorola has long fallen out of the good graces of the Android faithful, at least as far as keeping its legacy as one of the platform’s “good citizens” go. That’s especially true for what is practically its top-end phone by … Continue reading
