Facebook Is Going After Deceptive Domain Names

One of the ways phishing scams work is that it attempts to trick the user into thinking that an email or a website belongs to the person or organization that they are trying to impersonate. For example.recently there was a report of how a Shark Tank host got scammed out of $400,000 due to an email that was made to seem like it came from her secretary, except that it wasn’t.

This was possible as the email address contained one letter different from her actual secretary’s email. This is also why it doesn’t come as a surprise that Facebook is now trying to clamp down on such deceptive practices, by filing a lawsuit against a domain name registrar for registering domain names that come across as deceptive by making themselves look like they belong to Facebook or are affiliated with Facebook.

According to Facebook, “We regularly scan for domain names and apps that infringe our trademarks to protect people from abuse. We found that Namecheap’s proxy service, Whoisguard, registered or used 45 domain names that impersonated Facebook and our services, such as instagrambusinesshelp.com, facebo0k-login.com and whatsappdownload.site.”

Facebook notes that this is not the first time they’re going after deceptive domain names and the companies that register them. Previously they had filed a lawsuit back in 2019 against another domain registrar for similar practices.

The Next HomePod Could Come With Touch-Sensitive Fabrics

At the moment, Apple’s HomePod is designed in such a way that the controls are placed on the top of the speaker where users can control music playback. They can also control it using Siri. However, it seems that in the future, HomePods could sport touch-sensitive fabric that would allow users to control the speakers by touching anywhere around the speaker.

This is according to a recently-discovered patent filed by Apple in which based on the patent’s description, “Electronic devices such as audio devices may include fabric. As an example, the housing of a speaker may be covered with a layer of fabric. Openings may be provided in the fabric to allow sound to be emitted from within the device.”

How this will work, at least according to the patent, is that Apple plans on either weaving conductive strands into the layers of the fabric, or by creating a touch substrate (similar to touch displays) underneath the fabric itself, although the latter sounds like it would be quite an expensive undertaking if they plan to have the entire speaker itself become touch-sensitive.

This isn’t the first time that we’re seeing or hearing about fabrics becoming “smarter”. Google has been working with Levi’s on Project Jacquard in an attempt at creating smart clothing. However, whether or not such a HomePod will ever come to pass remains to be seen.

New Report Suggests iPhone SE 2 Could Be Delayed

If a budget iPhone is something you’re looking forward to, then you might have heard the reports that claim that Apple could be working on an iPhone SE 2 that will be the successor to the iPhone SE that was launched in 2016. Initially rumored for an early 2020 release, it seems that there is a chance it could now be delayed.

This is according to a recent report from DigiTimes in which they claim that based on their supply chain sources, orders for the PCB for the phone have been delayed. Apparently the companies that Apple works with have been told by the company that they should delay the shipments of these PCBs to the second quarter of the year.

The PCBs were rumored to be originally sent out in March, in time for Apple’s rumored 31st of March event, where Apple typically releases the newly-announced products a week or two later. However, now with the PCB shipments having been “deferred”, it seems that a Q2 launch is looking more likely.

However, the phone itself is said to have reached the final stage of production, so it seems that the PCB could be one of the few remaining components needed to piece it all together. We’re not sure why Apple has requested the delay, but until we get the official word, take it with a grain of salt and maybe don’t hold your breath just yet.
