Apple Could Build Travel Recommendations Into Its Map Service

Apple has greatly improved on its mapping application ever since its debut, but of course, further improvements by adding new features is only natural, and it looks like one of those potential new features is travel recommendations.

This is according to a recently-sighted job listing (which has since been deleted) that suggests that Apple wants to include such a feature in its maps. The job is calling for a “Product Manager – Maps, Writer/Editor” based in Culver City, California, where the job description reads, “[Apple] is looking for someone to help build exciting and engaging editorial content to help Maps users explore their world. Whether that’s locally, or when they’re planning an amazing vacation.”

The job will require that the applicant has an “Insatiable curiosity for discovering new places and a passion for telling the world in an engaging manner”, along with “Knowledge of food, travel, and shopping trends”, and “Strong editing skills to help craft engaging digital content”.

Travel recommendations aren’t new and we’ve seen this feature included in other mapping services, namely Google Maps where its Local Guides feature offers up something similar. Google Maps also has built-in recommendations under the For You tab, so like we said, this won’t be completely new.

However, if Apple is hoping to get more users to use its service instead of the competition, building in features like this could be one way to go about it.

Xbox Series S Could Be Priced Starting At $300

When Microsoft launched the Xbox One, they later followed up with a more affordable model in the form of the Xbox One S. They then launched a more expensive model with the Xbox One X. We expect that this will be the same formula the company will adopt with the Xbox Series X. hence the name, where there will be a “series” of different consoles under the Xbox family.

However, no one really knows how much these consoles will cost, but according to the latest rumors, the Xbox Series S could be priced starting at $300. Codenamed “Lockhart”, the Xbox Series S can be seen as the successor to the Xbox One S. It is rumored to be using Zen + Navi architecture and a GPU with a floating-point performance of 4 teraflops.

While $300 isn’t exactly “cheap” per se, when you consider the rumors that the next-gen consoles from Microsoft and Sony have been said to cost anywhere between $600-$800, $300 seems like a downright steal. However, we’re not sure how big of a compromise gamers will be making, especially with such a huge price difference.

With the current-gen consoles, Microsoft has made it so that all games are playable across all Xbox One consoles, regardless if you have the original model, the S model, or the X model. Hopefully official pricing will be revealed soon, so until then, take it with a grain of salt.

Amazon Just Purged Hundreds Of Thousands Of Product Listings Over Price Gouging

One of the ways that medical and healthcare professionals are advising people on how to take care of themselves during the coronavirus outbreak, is by keeping ourselves clean and practicing good hygiene. This includes washing our hands thoroughly, using hand sanitizer, and wearing face masks.

As expected due to the crisis, such commonplace products have suddenly become very lucrative commodities and as such, there are quite a number of sellers online who are taking advantage of this by marking up these products considerably. Turns out Amazon isn’t thrilled by this and have since revealed that they have taken down hundreds of thousands of product listings over price gouging due to the coronavirus.

This is in response to a letter Sen. Ed Markey wrote to Amazon’s CEO, Jeff Bezos, in which he asked Bezos if Amazon was doing anything to counter the price gouging that customers are seeing on its platform. Amazon has since responded by saying that they are aggressively enforcing its fair price policy, which has resulted in at least 530,000 listings being taken down from the marketplace, with 2,500 seller accounts in the US being suspended as well.

Brian Huseman, Amazon’s vice president of public policy adds, “We have also instituted additional manual audits of products in our stores due to the increased risk of price gouging from unscrupulous sellers seeking to evade our automated systems and take advantage of customers.”
