Sonos Backtracks On Its ‘Recycle Mode’ That Bricks Older Speakers

It used to be that you could buy a device and it would last you until it broke down. This is why Sonos came under fire when they announced that they would be ending support for some of its older products (they later reversed their decision). Now it looks like the company is backtracking on yet another controversial decision in the form of “recycle mode”.

The company has since announced that users will no longer need to put their older devices in “recycle mode” (which essentially bricks it) in order to qualify to take part in Sonos’ trade up program, where customers will get 30% off newer Sonos products. Instead, the trade up program will be open to all customers as long as they can prove you own one of the eligible legacy Sonos products.

In case you’re unfamiliar, previously Sonos had required customers to put their devices in “recycle mode” in order to qualify to take part in the trade up program. Like we said, recycle mode basically renders the speakers useless, meaning that they can no longer be used anymore.

According to Sonos, they claim that this was done to prevent older Sonos devices from being resold that no longer worked. In any case, this is good news for current Sonos users so if you’re thinking about getting a new Sonos speaker and have an older (eligible) Sonos product, you can go ahead and claim that 30% without having to sacrifice your previous model.

Bang & Olufsen Announces New Beosound Balance Wireless Speaker

While the sound quality from Bang & Olufsen speakers are debatable, especially amongst audiophiles, there is no denying that the company makes some fantastic looking speakers that will blend in quite nicely with your home furniture. In fact, if you’re looking for another talking piece for your living room, the company’s latest Beosound Balance could be worth checking out.

One of the striking features of the Beosound Balance’s design is its base, where it is wrapped with FSC-approved timber. However, it is more than just about its looks as the base will also feature an upward-facing subwoofer. The way Bang & Olufsen have designed it is so that the bass will go up through a perforated metal dish and then reflect off the base of the top part of the speaker.

While looking like a piece of furniture, don’t let the looks fool you as the speaker does come with some fancy features, such as the top part of the speaker that is touch-sensitive. From here, users will be able to control playback. There is also a built-in microphone that the speakers will use to analyze the room to help create an optimized sound for the environment it is in.

There will also be a bunch of wireless connectivity options for users to choose from, such as Bluetooth, AirPlay 2, Google Cast, and Spotify Connect. That being said, given that these are Bang & Olufsen speakers, they will not come cheap. The Beosound Balance is priced at $2,250 and will be going on sale later this month.

The Last Of Us Is Getting Its Own TV Show On HBO

There are a lot of video games with fantastic storylines out there, which is why it’s not surprising that many movie and TV studios are seeing great potential in turning them into movies or TV series. In fact, Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us appears to be set on getting its own TV show over at HBO.

Now, in the past we have seen how sometimes video games that are adapted into movies or TV shows don’t always work out so well, but there is some good news on this front. This is because according to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, it seems that the game’s writer and creative director, Neil Druckmann, will be helping to write the series alongside Craig Mazin, the creator of the Chernobyl series.

The series will also feature Carolyn Strauss as its executive producer together with Evan Wells, the president of Naughty Dog, meaning that the studio will be rather hands-on with this project, which hopefully should result in a TV series that will stay true to the game and the story they’ve told so far.

In a statement released by Mazin, he claims to be an avid player of the game and is looking forward to this partnership with Druckmann. “Neil Druckmann is without question the finest storyteller working in the video game medium, and The Last of Us is his magnum opus. Getting a chance to adapt this breathtaking work of art has been a dream of mine for years, and I’m so honored to do it in partnership with Neil.”

There is currently no word on when the series will be released, but you can bet that many are no doubt looking forward to it.
