AR/VR Controller Photo Discovered In iOS 14

It is no secret that Apple is interested in augmented reality technology. Apple’s latest iPad Pro actually comes with a built-in LiDAR scanner to help improve on the AR experience. We have also heard rumors that a similar feature could be arriving for 2020’s iPhones, and that Apple is working on an AR headset could be arriving in 2022.

Now thanks to a photo obtained by MacRumors, Apple’s rumored AR headset is starting to take shape. The publication has shared a photo of what appears to be a controller. This controller seems to be similar in design to VR headsets like the HTC Vive Focus, which shouldn’t be too surprising as an rumor dating back to 2017 indicated that Apple was using the HTC Vive for internal testing.

As to whether or not this controller will be the actual controller for the AR/VR headset that Apple is working on remains to be seen, but MacRumors speculates that this controller could also be used only for testing, and that the final product could offer up a much more refined and polished look.

That being said, it would be a bit weird to have a controller with an AR headset. If these glasses are meant to be worn, especially outside, how many people would actually bother bringing a controller? Unless, of course, the headset can also be controlled using an iPhone and that the controller is designed for indoor use.

Either way, it’s all speculative for now, so do take it with a grain of salt.

Square Enix Offers Temporary Reprieve For Final Fantasy XIV Players Who Cannot Afford To Pay Subscription

Courtesy of SQUARE ENIX CO, LTD.

While some of us are fortunate to still have a job and to work from home during the coronavirus outbreak crisis, there are some who are less fortunate. As businesses are being forced to temporarily suspend their operations if they’re not deemed to be essential, it means that there will be plenty of people out of a job during this period of time.

As such, many will start to prioritize other things, such as paying their bills, buying food and essentials, and so on, and may choose to stop paying for certain luxuries, like a subscription to a MMORPG. Square Enix recognizes that players might not be able to afford its monthly subscription, and have announced a temporary reprieve.

Before you get too excited, no, Square Enix is not waiving its monthly subscriptions. Instead, the company has announced that players who cannot afford to pay their subscriptions will not have their in-game houses demolished. For those unfamiliar, players in Final Fantasy XIV can purchase plots of land and build a home.

To prevent land from being taken up unnecessarily, players will need to maintain an active account and log in regularly, otherwise these lands and homes will be flagged as inactive, and after 45 days they will be automatically demolished.

According to Square Enix, “Taking into account the world-wide spread of the COVID-19 (also known as “novel coronavirus”) and the economical effects of various cities going into lock-down, we have decided to temporarily suspend automatic housing demolition.” The company does not mention how long this suspension will last for, but they will be actively monitoring the situation and make adjustments then.

UK Internet Service Providers Will Lift Data Caps During COVID-19 Crisis

To help slow down the spread of the COVID-19 virus and to ease the strain on healthcare systems around the world, many governments are implementing lockdowns or movement restriction orders, where they are basically asking people to stay home. For some, this means that instead of going to work or to school, these activities will be done remotely.

For those who have an internet plan with a data cap, safe to say that being stuck at home for 24 hours will no doubt result in that cap being reached very quickly, but over in the UK, the country’s major internet service providers have announced that they have come to a joint agreement that will see them temporarily lift all data caps.

This means that for now, broadband users at home will be able to enjoy unlimited data during the COVID-19 virus outbreak, thus allowing them to keep connected with friends and loved ones, while also still being able to remain productive with their work and school.

According to Digital Secretary Oliver Dowden, “It’s fantastic to see mobile and broadband providers pulling together to do their bit for the national effort by helping customers, particularly the most vulnerable, who may be struggling with bills at this difficult time. It is essential that people stay at home to protect the NHS and save lives. This package helps people to stay connected whilst they stay home.”

In the meantime, other countries have also come up with alternative solutions, like over in the US where carriers will be waiving late charges and suspensions during this period of time.
