University of Waterloo researchers split one photon into three

Researchers from the University of Waterloo have split one photon in the three for the first time. The occurrence is described as the first of its kind and uses something called the spontaneous parametric down-conversion method or SPDC. The experiment created what the researchers call a non-Gaussian state of light. A non-Gaussian state light is considered a critical ingredient in … Continue reading

The Walking Dead Had a Badass Fight But the Rest Was Nonsense

After last week’s crummy mid-season premiere, I didn’t expect The Walking Dead to give us its best fight sequence in years tonight. I also didn’t expect most of everything else that happened in the episode, because it was all very odd—but at least it was odd enough to be entertaining.

Walmart, Verizon In Talks To Turn Stores Into 5G Hubs

While 5G is mostly touted as a new and faster mobile internet service, the reality is that it can be used for so much more. In fact, it appears that both Walmart and Verizon are apparently in talks about turning Walmart’s stores (or at least some of them) into 5G hubs. This means that in the future, users will be able to take advantage of the 5G connectivity in Walmart’s stores for other services.

This includes digital health initiatives, such as being able to video chat live with a doctor, share real-time medical data, and maybe even automatically register yourself at the clinic so that you can cut down on waiting time and what not. For users who do not have 5G, having access to a 5G hub in the store would also allow them to enjoy faster internet without having to buy a brand new 5G compatible smartphone.

That being said, it should be noted that none of this is confirmed yet as both companies are said to still be in talks. However, there are clear advantages to this partnership, where the faster internet speeds and connectivity would help drive customers to Walmart’s stores over the competition, while Verizon will have a place to advertise its services and allow customers to experience it first hand.

Apple Sending iPad Care Packages To Its Employees Stranded In China

As far as the coronavirus outbreak is concerned, China is the worst hit amongst all the countries in the world. It’s not surprising given that the disease appears to have originated from there. This has greatly impacted many companies around the world as many rely on China and its factories for production.

Apple is one of those companies who have been affected, and as a company who also has employees in the country, it looks like Apple is trying to cheer them up. They are doing this by sending care packages to employees who are stranded in China due to the coronavirus outbreak.

This care package contains a variety of things, one of which is an iPad that will presumably help to keep staff entertained and less bored, along with a bunch of snacks. According to the letter accompanying the care package, it reads, “We are sending our best wishes to you on behalf of the entire Apple Team, together, with another CareKit for you and your families. In the kit, you will find comfort items and an iPad which can be used to facilitate children’s online learning or help pass the time during your prolonged stay away from your home.”

In other news, it has been estimated that due to the coronavirus outbreak, more people will be staying home and companies such as Apple could stand to gain financially.
