Apple’s 2020 iPhones Could Come With A 120Hz ‘Pro Motion’ Display

Ever since Apple launched the iPad Pro with its 120Hz Pro Motion display, many have been wondering when that tech will trickle down to the iPhone. After all, we’re seeing more Android handset makers introduce similar features to their smartphones, so why not the iPhone too, right?

If you were hoping to see an iPhone with a 120Hz refresh rate display, you could be in luck. This is because during a Periscope session, Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman (who has proven to be very well-connected regarding unreleased Apple related information) said that it is a possibility that 2020’s iPhones could come with 120Hz Pro Motion displays.

It should be noted that Gurman does not actually confirm if such a feature will indeed be arriving to the iPhones, but rather he believes it is possible, so maybe don’t get your hopes up just yet. He also suggests that if the feature does arrive for the iPhones, it will probably be exclusive to Apple’s higher-end models which are also expected to come with additional features, like a LiDAR scanner that made its debut on the 2020 iPad Pro.

It would be nice to see Apple bring a faster refresh rate to its iPhones, but whether or not they will remains to be seen. However, like we said, more Android handsets are starting to offer the feature, so it wouldn’t be a surprise if Apple were to eventually join in, even if it might not necessarily be with 2020’s iPhone lineup.

Zoom 5.0 Released With Improved Security And Encryption Features

In what should have been a fantastic year for video conferencing app Zoom turned out to be something of a nightmare. The app has been plagued with a number of security and privacy issues, ultimately forcing the company to suspend the introduction of new features and instead focus on cleaning up the app.

The good news for Zoom users is that it looks like the company has made some pretty great strides on that front because they have since released Zoom 5.0. This comes with a host of improved security and privacy features, such as AES 256-bit GCM encryption that helps protect data while in transit.

They have also introduced new control features such as data routing, where the account admin will now be able to choose which data center regions their meetings use. This is an update to an earlier report in which it was discovered that some Zoom calls were being routed to China, leading to concerns regarding privacy. Zoom will also be turning on Waiting Rooms and passwords by default, thus reducing the potential for “Zoom bombing”.

According to Eric S. Yuan, CEO of Zoom, “I am proud to reach this step in our 90-day plan, but this is just the beginning. We built our business by delivering happiness to our customers. We will earn our customers’ trust and deliver them happiness with our unwavering focus on providing the most secure platform.”

Skype Takes A Page Out Of Zoom’s Playbook By Introducing Custom Backgrounds

Video conferencing apps aren’t new, but in the recent months, we’re seeing an explosion in their popularity as more people are working and studying remotely due to the coronavirus outbreak. Zoom, despite its issues, has seen a massive surge in popularity due to the ease of use of its platform and the fact that it can support as many as 100 users at a time.

However, it looks like Microsoft is certainly not going to stand back and allow Zoom to steal their market share, and have since introduced a fun new feature that could make Skype more compelling to use: custom backgrounds. In the latest update to Skype, the app will now allow users to use custom backgrounds of their own choosing.

Prior to this, at most users could do was to blur their background, but this update will make it more interesting and fun to use. This is a feature that was previously pretty much exclusive to Zoom, but it looks like Skype will now offer it too. Like we said, Microsoft was certainly not going to stand by and let other platforms encroach on its market share.

Earlier this month, Microsoft removed the sign-up requirement for Skype, thus allowing users who do not have a Skype account to join in on video calls.
