AI Used To Determine Which Symptoms Could Be Leading Indicators Of COVID-19

One of the problems with the COVID-19 virus is that those who are infected can sometimes display symptoms that might be related to other illnesses. For example, coughing is one of the symptoms, along with a fever. This means that at a glance, it would be almost impossible to tell if someone has contracted the virus.

However, thanks to the work from a team of researchers from the Mayo Clinic and Nference, it seems that they are turning to the use of AI that will help to isolate phenotypes characteristic of the coronavirus. This means that with the use of AI, it will be able to come up with specific symptoms that show up the earliest in infected patients, meaning that short of actually running a test, these symptoms could be an indicator that the person could be infected.

The general recommendation is that the virus can incubate for about 14 days, but using AI, it can detect early symptoms that could show up 4-7 days before testing. This includes a specific combination of coughing, diarrhea, along with a loss of taste or smell, and excessive sweating.

According to the researchers, “As at-home serology-based tests for COVID-19 with high sensitivity and specificity are approved, capturing these symptoms will become increasingly important in order to facilitate the continued development and refinement of disease models. EHR-integrated digital health tools may help address this need.”

Latest Opera Update Offers Direct Access To Instagram On Your Desktop

If you’re the sort of person who loves keeping social media platforms like Facebook open on their browser tab while they’re on their computer, then Opera’s latest update might be worth checking out. This is because in the latest version of Opera, the company is providing users with a one-click direct access to Instagram.

What this means is that instead of users having to keep a separate tab of Instagram open on their desktop browsers, Opera has baked Instagram into the sidebar of its browser. This means that anytime you want to call up Instagram to check on your feed, all you need to do is click the button on the sidebar and a floating window with Instagram will pop up.

Note that this is for the desktop version of Instagram, although for the most part the experience is largely similar to the mobile version, especially now that Instagram has finally allowed users to send and receive messages through the web version of its platform. This new feature for Opera isn’t exactly groundbreaking and isn’t that much different compared to leaving a tab open, but it is a bit more convenient and also slightly more efficient.

If you’re a heavy Instagram user then there is no doubt that this is a feature you might be able to appreciate, but for the rest of us it does feel like a bit of a novelty.

Motorola Returns To Flagship Phones With Its New Edge Plus Smartphone

In the recent years, Motorola has mostly stuck to low and mid-range handsets while the rest of the competition tried their hand at creating high-end flagships. If you miss Motorola’s higher-end phones, then you might be interested to learn that the company has returned to the fray with its brand new Motorola Edge Plus smartphone.

The phone in question might not necessarily have the best display, where it only sports a FHD+ resolution, but it makes up for it by offering a 90Hz refresh rate and comes in at 6.7-inches, making it one of the larger smartphones offered in the market today. As expected of a flagship, under the hood we’re looking at a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset which is accompanied by 12GB of RAM, 256GB of storage, and a very respectable 5,000mAh battery.

The camera on the Edge Plus is no slouch either where it comes with a triple camera setup powered by a main 108MP sensor. In terms of design, it looks like Motorola could be taking some styling tips from the likes of Samsung and Huawei, where the edges of the display curved down to the sides, creating a very sleek and stylish look.

The Motorola Edge Plus also supports 5G, reverse wireless charging, 15W wireless charging, and according to the company, the handset will also be splash-resistant meaning that if you get it wet, you don’t have to worry about it damaging the device. As for its price, it looks like it will be priced similarly to most flagships we’re seeing these days and will start at $999, with availability set for the 14th of May exclusively from Verizon.
