Your Old Android Phone Can Be Repurposed As A System Monitor For You PC

We’re sure that some of you have seen PC builds where inside of the case, there is a built-in display that shows the system information, like the temperature of the PC, how fast the fans are spinning, and so on. Typically, this is achieved using a Raspberry Pi setup, but in case you don’t know how to setup one yourself or don’t want to spend the extra money, you’re in luck.

This is according to a report from PCGamesN who spotted a photo posted onto Reddit by u/div2691 in the PC Master Race subreddit which shows off the user’s setup where inside his PC case, there is an Android phone that doubles up as a secondary display used to display system information.

According to the user, this only requires the download of the app called Remote System Monitor, and all users need to do is ensure that both their phone and their computer are connected to the same network and they’re good to go. In the case of u/div2691, he opted to set his phone’s display to “always on” and routed a USB cable inside to keep the phone constantly charged.

You don’t have to do this, of course, but if you want to keep the phone inside of your PC, that’s an option. This is a great way to use an older Android phone that you have lying around collecting dust.

Nintendo Is Reportedly Ramping Up Production Of The Switch

One of the problems faced by Nintendo right now is that their Switch consoles seem to be selling out pretty fast. This is a good problem to have, although this has left many customers frustrated as they are not able to get their hands on the console unless they’re willing to pay the marked up prices offered by resellers.

We had previously heard from analysts that new units of the Switch might only arrive in the summer, but the good news is that it could arrive earlier than expected. This is according to a recent report from Nikkei in which it seems that Nintendo is ramping up production of the Switch in order to meet customer demand.

The report claims that the company is planning to boost production by an additional 10% for the year 2020, meaning that it will be more than the 20 million units that the company made back in 2019. It is still unclear when the console will arrive, but hopefully the boost in production means that we will see more units back in stock quickly, but until then, maybe don’t get your hopes up just yet.

The Nintendo Switch has been doing pretty well since its launch, although with the coronavirus outbreak that has forced many to work and study from home, it has resulted in many seeking new forms of entertainment, like the Switch.

Apple’s Bluetooth Restrictions Is Hindering France’s Contact Tracing App

One of the problems with developing for Apple devices is that the company has a walled garden approach to outsiders. This usually means a lot of restrictions that developers tend to face when trying to create apps for the iOS platform. Unfortunately for the French government, it seems that Apple’s restrictions surrounding Bluetooth is hindering their efforts at creating a contact tracing app.

With the coronavirus outbreak spreading around the world, contact tracing is of extreme importance as it allows health officials to quickly identify who the infected person might have come into contact with. France is developing an app of their own, but Apple’s Bluetooth restrictions are making it difficult to proceed.

Speaking to Bloomberg, France’s Digital Minister Cedric O said, “We’re asking Apple to lift the technical hurdle to allow us to develop a sovereign European health solution that will be tied our health system.” Unfortunately, it seems that Apple isn’t budging as talks are apparently not progressing.

That being said, it should be noted that Apple and Google have recently announced that they will be working together to develop contact tracing APIs that will be built into iOS and Android, allowing developers to take advantage of it. However, there have been some concerns raised about this and we imagine that governments will probably want to develop these apps themselves.
