Got the Munchies? Here's Some Garbage to Eat

It’s my birthday, I’ll shitpost if I want to. That’s right, I’m the MFing 4/20 baby and we’ve managed to survive an hour past the most epic 4:20 on 4/20/2020 of our lives. In the event that for some reason makes us hungry for savory junk food and/or sweets, somebody needs to make a snack run, and I’m the trash grub…

Apple May Release a Whole Bunch of New (and Some Unusual) Products This Year

I fondly remember the days when Apple events were packed with surprises (and “one more thing”), but those are long, long gone. The leaks are now rolling out earlier—and with more detail—then ever before, with a slate of new products reportedly on deck for this fall.

Google Photos Could Soon Let Users Remove Audio From Videos

Sometimes when recording a video to compile into a larger video, the audio from a video might not be necessary. This could be due to a variety of reasons, such as personal preference, the style of the video you’re making, or maybe in that particular clip, the audio was simply not captured well or is too distorted or noisy.

The good news is that if you use Google Photos, there could be an upcoming feature that will allow users to remove audio from videos easily. This was discovered by researcher Jane Manchun Wong who shared a screenshot on Twitter in which the upcoming feature was revealed.

From what we can tell, all users need to do is tap the audio icon in the video and it will mute it and take audio out of that particular video clip. Now, video editing software can easily do the same thing, but if you’d rather not go through the process of putting your video through such software or apps and just want to send a clip to a friend, then this feature will no doubt come in handy.

Unfortunately, there is no word on when this feature will be making its debut, but if you do a lot of editing through Google Photos itself, then this might be worth keeping an eye out for when it does eventually get released.

iOS 14 Could Finally Allow Developers To Code On Their iPhones Or iPads

The iPad has been positioned as a productivity device where users can create on them. However, these creations are typically things like creating art like drawing, editing photos, videos, and writing documents, but it seems that developers could soon have a reason to pick up the iPad for themselves in the future.

This is because according to a tweet by FrontpageTech’s Jon Prosser, it seems that one of the new features that Apple could introduce in iOS/iPadOS 14 is the ability to code directly on the tablet itself. In case you’re unfamiliar, coding on the iPhone or iPad isn’t exactly possible. There are some workarounds, but there are limitations on that and needless to say that it’s not exactly the most ideal experience.

However, if Prosser’s claims are true, it seems that iOS/iPadOS 14 will have the Xcode environment integrated into it. For those who don’t know, Xcode is the development environment for macOS that allows developers to create apps for macOS and iOS-based devices, like the iPad, Apple TV, and the Apple Watch.

By bringing Xcode to the iPad, it means that developers can easily bring their work with them on the go without having to buy or bring a MacBook with them. It also helps that Apple’s latest iPad Pro is being sold with an optional keyboard accessory that comes with a trackpad, bringing it one step closer to being a bonafide laptop replacement.

American Idol To Finish The Rest Of The Season By Shooting On The iPhone

Due to the coronavirus outbreak, production of many shows are being shut down and temporarily suspended. However, as the saying goes, the show must go on. To that end, American Idol producers have decided that they will continue with the show, except that they will be practicing social distancing by asking contestants to film themselves at home using their smartphones.

Speaking to Deadline, ABC’s SVP, Alternative Series, Specials & Late-Night Programming Rob Mills said, “We knew we wanted to get some kind of results this season. You started seeing some of the things that artists and musicians were doing on Instagram and Facebook, even some of the stuff on TV, we realised there was a way of doing something different, but could also feel innovative, that’s when the producers set about doing these shows that you’ll see over the next couple of weeks.”

American Idol showrunner Trish Kinane noted that using smartphones like the iPhone made a lot of sense, simply because its contestants were no doubt more familiar with its use rather than a complicated camera setup. “In the end, we decided rather than send them some complicated camera that you really need a camera operator to use, we would go with the the technology that they’re familiar with.”

American Idol is not the first show to turn to smartphones to continue with programming. Last month, late night talk show host Conan O’Brien also revealed that he would be filming from the confines of his home using the iPhone.

Walmart Sells Vudu To Fandango

A couple of years ago, Walmart announced that they would be getting into the streaming game by launching their own service called Vudu. It would be similar to some other streaming services where it would offer on-demand video streaming content. However, it seems that the company has decided that they are done on that front.

According to Walmart, it appears that the company will be selling off its Vudu service to Fandango, the online movie ticketing service. It is unclear how much Vudu was sold for and what Walmart’s reasons were for selling it, but the good news for Vudu subscribers is that the service will continue uninterrupted and unchanged, at least for now.

Also, as part of the agreement for the sale, Vudu will continue to power Walmart’s digital and TV store on its website, along with Walmart customers being able to continue using their Walmart login and wallet to make purchases on Vudu. That being said, Fandango already offers their own streaming service in the form of FandangoNOW, so by acquiring Vudu, it will allow them to take advantage of Vudu’s reach which is said to have been installed on 100 million living room devices and computers, and about 14.5 million mobile devices.

It will be interesting to see how Fandango’s purchase of Vudu will help the company in an already-crowded space that is populated by the likes of Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, and more recently, Apple TV+.

Facebook To Remove Posts Promoting Anti-Lockdown Protests

As the coronavirus outbreak continues to spread, many governments around the world have issued lockdown orders where they are asking people who are not in essential services to stay home. The idea behind these orders is to lessen the burden on healthcare systems which are currently overwhelmed by infected persons.

However, there have been some who are defying these orders and have organized anti-lockdown protests. To help curb such activities, Facebook is doing their part by removing posts and events that promote these kind of protests. This was revealed by Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg during an interview with Good Morning America.

According to Zuckerberg, “We do classify that as harmful misinformation and we take that down at the same time. It’s important that people can debate policy, so there’s a line on this. But, you know, more than normal political discourse, I think a lot of the stuff that people are saying that is false around a health emergency like this can be classified as harmful misinformation.”

Facebook on their end has also been dealing with a ton of coronavirus misinformation. The company has recently introduced a new feature that warns users if they have interacted with posts deemed to be misinformation, and directs them to more official sources like information from the WHO.

Microsoft Wants To Use Plasma From Recovered COVID-19 Patients To Treat Others

Companies like Apple are doing their part in trying to help curb the COVID-19 virus outbreak by creating and producing face masks and shields for frontliners. They have also teamed up with Google to create contact tracing features that will be built into apps designed for iOS and Android.

It looks like Microsoft is also joining in the fight where the company has announced their latest initiative that they are calling Plasma Bot. According to Microsoft, Plasma Bot is a screening tool that is designed to help patients who recovered from the COVID-19 virus to donate their plasma, which in turn could potentially be used to treat currently-infected patients.

According to Microsoft, “Plasma-derived therapies, like H-Ig, have already been shown to be effective in treating severe viral respiratory infections. The combined capability of these leading commercial manufacturers gives us hope for a scalable, reliable and sustainable treatment for COVID-19.”

The company will be partnering with the CoVIg-19 Plasma Alliance to help study plasma-based therapies. Through the use of Plasma Bot, this screening tool will ask users a series of questions to determine if they can be a potential donor, where it will then direct them to a licensed plasma collection center near them to make their donation.

To date there is no known cure for the COVID-19 virus. We have seen how some existing drugs can help treat certain symptoms related to the disease, but like we said, there is no known specific cure. Multiple vaccines are also in development, but it is estimated that they will probably only arrive in 2021 at the earliest, assuming that these vaccines prove successful.
