A new study has found that the impacts of deep sea mining are still felt a quarter of a century later.
There is without doubt that Spotify is currently the leader in music streaming. While Apple Music has been doing extremely well for itself, despite the relatively late start, it’s starting to feel like the company could have a hard time closing that gap. This is because according to Spotify’s Q1 earnings, the company is now boasting that they have 130 million paid subscribers.
Apple hasn’t shared the numbers for Apple Music for a while now, and last we heard, Apple Music was home to about 60 million paid subscribers. This means that based on the current figures, Spotify’s paid subscribers is more than double that of Apple Music, which like we said, represents a massive gap that could be difficult to close.
The 130 million paid subscribers is an increase of 6 million from the previous quarter. Spotify is also claiming that they have 163 million monthly active users on its ad-supported tier, which is free to use but users will need to put up with ads in between songs.
According to the company, “Despite the global uncertainty around COVID-19 in Q1, our business met or exceeded our forecast for all major metrics. For Q2 and the remainder of the year, our outlook for most of our key performance indicators has remained unchanged with the exception of revenue where a slowdown in advertising and significant changes in currency rates are having an impact.”

The general idea behind patent and copyright law is that whoever creates it or comes up with the idea should be considered as its creator or inventor. However, what if the creator was not human? What if the idea for a product or service or invention was actually created by a computer, like AI?
While we cannot speak to the legal systems in other countries, as far as the USPTO is concerned, no, an AI cannot be legally credited as an inventor. This is based on a submission to the USPTO for a couple of patents – an emergency flashlight and a shape-shifting drink container – which were created by an AI system called DABUS.
The Artificial Inventor Project filed the patent invention on behalf of DABUS’ creator, Stephen Thaler, where they argued that since Thaler himself did not have any expertise in those types of products, he could not have come up with the ideas himself, and thus DABUS should be credited as the inventor of those patents.
However, the USPTO rejected that notion and pointed towards the language currently used in US patent law, where it uses the term “whoever” in reference to inventors, thus making it impossible for DABUS to be considered as the inventor of those patents. The AIP had previously filed for similar requests in the UK and Europe, although based on the current wordings in the law, both bodies have similarly rejected the application on similar legal interpretations of the law.

In the early days of the iPad, it was largely seen as a bigger version of the iPhone where for the most part, it had all the features and functionality of the iPhone except on a larger screen. However, in recent years, Apple has made various changes and improvements to the iPad that have slowly transformed it into a potential laptop replacement.
One of those changes came in 2019 with iPadOS 13, where it allowed users to open multiple windows of the same app. For those who use Microsoft Word on their iPad, there is some good news on that front because it looks like Microsoft is now testing allowing users to open multiple documents on their iPad at the same time.
For those unfamiliar, this is thanks to the multi-window feature introduced in iPadOS 13. Previously the iPad would allow users to open multiple apps at the same time with multitasking, but with multi-window support, users can open multiple windows of the same app at once. For example, you could have one document in Word with your notes and outlines, and the other document could be where you type it out in full.
That being said, multi-window support for both Word and PowerPoint are currently in testing for Office Insiders, but it shouldn’t be too long where it will be made available to all users.
