OnePlus 8 Pro teardown reveals a somewhat repairable beauty

The OnePlus 8 Pro might very well be this year’s titleholder for the best 2020 premium flagship, at least for the first half of that 2020. It is admittedly also the company’s most expensive phone so far, which will make prospective buyers worry about its longevity. The good news is that, in addition to having the first IP68 rating on … Continue reading

OnePlus 8 pricing might become a bit controversial

OnePlus burst into the smartphone market with guns blazing, crying “Never Settle” for expensive phones when you can have nearly the same things at a much lower price. It has, however, eventually conceded that progress sometimes comes at a literal price as well. The new OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro might be its greatest masterpiece yet but they’re also … Continue reading

Galaxy S20 Ultra update pulled probably due to numerous bugs

The Galaxy S20 series and especially the Galaxy S20 Ultra should be Samsung’s greatest victory yet, at least in theory. In practice, it might be one of its most disappointing and it isn’t just the COVID-19 that is to blame. In addition to concerns about performance and price value, the Galaxy S20 Ultra, in particular, seems to be hounded by … Continue reading

Apple’s New AirPods Could Launch Next Week

We have been hearing rumors that Apple could have a newer pair of the AirPods in the works. It was initially dubbed the AirPods Pro Lite, but recently it was suggested that it could be known as the AirPods X. Now according to a tweet by FrontpageTech’s Jon Prosser, he claims that the device could be launched as early as next week.

The AirPods X was originally rumored to be launched at Apple’s end of March event, but with the coronavirus outbreak, that event was reportedly cancelled. Not much is known about the AirPods X at the moment, except that based on the rumors, it is said to be placed where in the middle between the regular AirPods and the AirPods Pro.

Its positioning is a bit awkward given that the price difference between the AirPods and AirPods Pro isn’t that much, but perhaps it could have other features that could appeal to a different set of customers. We have been hearing that Apple could be planning a pair of water-resistant AirPods, so maybe this could be it.

Prosser also goes on to claim that next week could see Apple launch a new MacBook. There have been rumors about a 13-inch MacBook Pro refresh with the updated scissor switch keyboards, so that could be it as well. Take it with a grain of salt, but check back with us next week if you’d like the details.

Australia Could Force Facebook And Google To Pay For News Content

Facebook and Google have a bit of a delicate relationship with publishers of media content. This is because while these tech companies provide a platform to allow publishers to gain exposure to their content, at the same time Facebook and Google also benefit from it through advertisements.

There has been a bit of back and forth between publishers and these tech companies, and if publications should get paid if either Facebook or Google uses their content. For publishers over in Australia, there is some good news because the local government has ordered it Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) to create a mandatory code of conduct that would force platforms like Facebook and Google to pay news outlets whenever their content is used.

According to the report from ABC News, the ACCC was originally tasked with creating a voluntary code of conduct, but they later came back and said that coming to a voluntary agreement would be “unlikely” (no surprises there). With the COVID-19 virus outbreak hitting all industries, including media publications, this has forced the Australian government to step in and make the code of conduct a mandatory one instead.

Communications Minister Paul Fletcher said, “Digital platforms need to do more to improve the transparency of their operations for news media providers as they have a significant impact on the capacity of news media organisations to build and maintain an audience and derive resources from the media content they produce.”

Apple’s AirPower Could Be Relaunched In Multiple Sizes

Last year, Apple announced that they would no longer be launching its AirPower wireless charging mat. This was reportedly due to the various technical hurdles that Apple could not overcome, such as overheating. However, recently there have been rumors suggesting that Apple is back at the drawing board and that the project might not be completely dead.

Now in a tweet by @choco_bit, the latest rumors are now claiming that the AirPower could be relaunched in two different sizes. One size is rumored to be the original AirPower that can charge multiple devices at once, while the other is said to be a smaller AirPower that can only charge a single device.

For those who haven’t been following the news, one of the alleged reasons why the AirPower was cancelled was due to it overheating. This is because Apple was trying to create a wireless charger with multiple charging coils that would allow devices to charge regardless of where it was placed on the mat. This is versus current charging pads that require users to place their device directly over the coil.

Unfortunately, it apparently resulted in it overheating, but a tweet last week revealed that Apple was exploring the idea of using the A11 chipset to better manage the heat. That being said, while Apple could be revisiting the project, it is still possible that they could still cancel it, so take it with a grain of salt for now and maybe don’t get your hopes up just yet.
