Google Is Banning Employees From Using Zoom On Their Work Laptops

In the past few months, Zoom has enjoyed an explosion in popularity. However, this popularity put the app under a very bright spotlight in which several privacy and security related issues were discovered. This has led to some organizations, such as school districts, to ban the use of the app.

Now it looks like Google is also similarly banning the app from being used by its employees. According to a report from BuzzFeed News, it seems that Google has recently sent out emails to its employees working from home that they will no longer be able to use the video conferencing app on their work laptops.

In a statement provided to BuzzFeed News, Jose Castaneda, a Google spokesperson said, “We have long had a policy of not allowing employees to use unapproved apps for work that are outside of our corporate network. Recently, our security team informed employees using Zoom Desktop Client that it will no longer run on corporate computers as it does not meet our security standards for apps used by our employees. Employees who have been using Zoom to stay in touch with family and friends can continue to do so through a web browser or via mobile.”

While it might seem like Google is simply trying to stifle the competition, Zoom’s various privacy and security issues have been pretty well-documented, where vulnerabilities were discovered that allowed hackers to steal credentials. There was also an instance where Zoom calls were being routed to China, and also the issue of “Zoom-bombing” which allows strangers to drop in on meetings where they would disrupt them by playing pornography.

This Is How Much The OnePlus 8 Could Cost

OnePlus had initially started out as a company that made and sold affordable smartphones. However, over the years, the company has slowly started to increase the prices of its devices, and it seems that the upcoming OnePlus 8 series will be no different, at least according to the latest leak.

In a post by WinFuture.de, the alleged prices of the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro have been revealed. If you were hoping for the handsets to be cheaper than its predecessors, think again. In fact, some of you might actually be disappointed with these prices which seem pretty expensive.

According to the leaked prices, it seems that the base OnePlus 8 model will be priced starting at €719-€729. This model will offer 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Moving up the ranks will be the 12GB RAM and 256GB storage model that will be priced between €819-€829. Then comes the OnePlus 8 Pro where the 8GB RAM and 128GB storage model will retail for €919-$929, while the 12GB RAM and 256GB storage option will go for €1,009-€1,019.

Now, it is unclear how much these models will cost when they find their way stateside, but given their prices in euros, don’t expect them to be cheap. Take it with a grain of salt for now since these are unofficial prices, but we should have more details next week when OnePlus is expected to make an announcement on the 14th of April.

Apple Maps To Prioritize Foods And Medical Services In Search

Now with most of the world on lock down, services like food delivery and medical services have become more important than ever. If you’re an Apple Maps user, it seems that Apple is indeed prioritizing those services because according to a report, it appears that Apple Maps will now prioritize food and medical services when it comes to search.

These changes were initially discovered by iPhone Ticker where according to the report, searches for essential services will now be displayed at the top. This should make the app a little more useful, especially if Apple Maps is your main driver when it comes for navigation purposes.

That being said, Apple is not alone in making these changes. As some of you might recall, Google recently made some changes to Google Maps as well. With Google Maps, the company started to show which restaurants offer delivery services or curbside pickups. With social distancing being more important than ever to curb the spread of the coronavirus, it will be useful for customers who are looking to order food but don’t want to go out, or at least be able to keep their distance from others.

These changes to Apple Map should already be live, but we’re not sure if this will be available to all users around the world or if it will only be available to those living in the US.
