This Smart Bottle Made Drinking Water a Little Less Boring With Flavor Pods

Smart water bottles and tracking hydration with apps feel kind of pointless—like expensive Instagram influencer fodder. The bottles I’ve tried out in the past were way more trouble than they were worth because the last thing I want to do is charge a bottle that sends me notifications to drink more water. Not to…

Google’s AI Can Transform Your Photos Into The Style Of Famous Artists

Each artist has their own distinct style. This is what makes art in general unique, although in the art world, there are certain styles that seem to be more popular than others. Of course, not all of us are able to mimic the styles of another artist, but Google wants to help with a new feature they’re introducing in its Arts & Culture app.

Dubbed “Art Transfer”, this is a new feature in the app that will leverage the use of AI to help transform your photos into a style of a famous artist. According to Google, “Art Transfer is powered by an algorithmic model created by Google AI. Once you snap your photo and select a style, Art Transfer doesn’t just blend the two things or simply overlay your image. Instead, it kicks off a unique algorithmic recreation of your photo inspired by the specific art style you have chosen.”

Google also boasts that all of the AI processing will be done on your phone itself, as opposed to being sent to the cloud and processed online. This is good news for those who are concerned about privacy, while at the same time onboard processing also means that your photos should be processed faster.

This is not the first time that we’re seeing AI being used to filter photos. Several years ago, some of you might recall a photo editing app called Prisma that also used AI to help better apply filters in a more realistic way.

Select 2018 LG TVs Will Be Getting HomeKit And AirPlay 2 Support

Last year, LG announced that they would be bringing AirPlay 2 and HomeKit to its 2019 smart TVs. However, the company stated that only its 2019 models (and presumably beyond) would be on the receiving end of those new features, which pretty much meant that its older models would not be getting it.

However, the good news is that according to a new support document spotted by MacRumors, it appears that LG might have had a change of heart. According to the document, it now mentions that select 2018 smart TVs will be getting the update that will bring HomeKit and AirPlay 2 functionality.

This includes LCD TV models that have “SK” or “UK” in its name, and OLED TV models that have “B8” or “Z8” in its name. Unfortunately, owners of these TVs might have to wait a while before they are able to get their hands on the new features. This is because according to the document, the new features are being targeted for a rollout by October 2020, which means that we might have to wait until then, unless LG were to release it earlier.

That being said, despite the somewhat limited availability, it’s still good news. It also appears that maybe an earlier petition that asked LG to reconsider might have worked.

16-Year Old Student In The Philippines Has Been 3D Printing Face Shields For Doctors

3D printing might have been viewed as a somewhat novel piece of technology, but in the recent months, 3D printing seems to have seen a massive boost in popularity, (no) thanks to the coronavirus outbreak which has left hospitals and healthcare workers around the world short on protective equipment like face shields.

Over in the Philippines, 16-year old Marcus Chu has been lending a helping hand to his local hospitals where he is utilizing a 3D printer that was given to him for Christmas and helping to 3D print face shields. Chu had initially relied on an open-source design online, but eventually he tweaked it so that his new design would use less materials and could be produced faster.

Despite it being a one-person operation, Chu feels that every little bit counts. According to the 16-year old, “I feel like it’s my opportunity to finally help in a very serious situation, even if it’s just in a little way.” Chu is not alone in his efforts as there are other 3D printers around the world that are stepping up.

For example over in Malaysia, the local 3D printing community has gathered to help produce face shields for doctors. We’re also seeing how 3D printing is being used to produce respirator valves that are also in extremely short supply.
