Walmart Will Conduct Temperature Checks Of Its Employees

While most of us have been advised to stay home to work or study, there are many out there who are still going to work. These people consists of frontliners, such as staff working at businesses that are deemed to be essential, like stores that sell our daily needs such as food and whatnot.

Walmart is one of those stores and in a bid to help ensure that their employees stay safe, the company has announced that they will be implementing temperature checks of their employees. This is to help the company keep track of which employees might be falling sick, in which case they should probably stay home.

According to Walmart, “Any associate with a temperature of 100.0 degrees will be paid for reporting to work and asked to return home and seek medical treatment if necessary. The associate will not be able to return to work until they are fever-free for at least three days.” The company also announced that they will be providing masks and gloves to employees who need them.

Walmart acknowledges that according to CDC guidelines, those who are not sick do not require gloves or masks, but the company will provide them to employees who want to wear them, supplies permitting.

watchOS 7 Will Come With Activity Tracking For Kids

In the past we have seen companies launch smartwatches for kids. It still isn’t particularly common yet, but it seems that this could be a market that Apple wants to tap into. According to a report from 9to5Mac, they have discovered code within iOS 14 that suggests that the next major watchOS update could introduce new kid-friendly features.

One of those features includes activity rings designed for kids. For those unfamiliar, activity rings are a feature of the Apple Watch that shows the wearer how far along they’ve come in their activities, such as exercising, moving, and standing. These rings will be adapted for a new kids mode that will make it more oriented towards children.

In addition to being more kid-friendly, the code also seems to suggest that Apple could allow kids to wear the Apple Watch without necessarily having to own an iphone. As it stands, the Apple Watch requires users to own an iPhone to connect their watch and to pair it. However, with this kids mode, the watch can instead be paired to an iPhone belonging to someone else, like a parent.

The parent will also then be able to keep track of their kid’s activities through their iPhone. We expect that more details about watchOS 7 will be shared at Apple’s WWDC event, which following the coronavirus outbreak, will now be held in a new online format.

Researchers Want To Use Crowdsourced Data To Help Fight The COVID-19 Virus

If you’re not a doctor, scientist, or medical researcher, it doesn’t mean that you can’t help fight the COVID-19 virus. Simply staying at home to help flatten the curve is already a contribution towards society, but if you want to be more active in lending a helping hand, researchers at UC San Francisco could use your help.

The university has launched a new program called the COVID-19 Citizen Science (CCS) that basically uses crowdsourced data to help them better understand the virus and to track it, which could come in handy when coming up with treatment options as well as to contain it. This program is open to everyone all over the world as long as they are aged 18 and above and own a smartphone.

So how does this work? Through a smartphone app, users will be prompted to answer questions about their health and daily habits. They will also be prompted with new questions every week over the course of the next six months. There is also an option to allow the app to track you, and the good news is that this is an opt-in feature, so if you’d rather not be tracked, you can choose no to enable the feature.

According to UCSF, “In the long term, the collective participation of committed individuals in CCS will help identify behaviors, influences and factors that increase or decrease the risk of infection or that affect outcomes after infection. The greater the number of participants, the greater the likelihood of statistically valid findings emerging from the study.”

If you’re interested in taking part in this program, head on over to UCSF’s website in the source link below for the details.
