WhatsApp says its forwarding limits are slowing the spread of fake news

In a bid to tackle the spread of misinformation and fake news, WhatsApp recently imposed stricter limits on message forwarding. Messages that have been forwarded more than five times can now only be sent to one chat at a time. According to the compan…

WhatsApp Expands Group Video Calling Participants To Eight

Last week, we reported that WhatsApp was planning on expanding the number of users per group video call. Previously, the limit of the number of users was set to four, but in the latest beta of the app, it was found that WhatsApp was planning to increase the limit to eight users at a time.

We weren’t sure back then when this update would be rolled out, but it seems to have arrived a lot faster than we thought. In an announcement by Facebook, they have revealed that in the latest update to WhatsApp, the number of users per group video call has since been increased to eight users at a time.

According to Facebook, “WhatsApp calls are another way to stay in touch. Soon you’ll be able to have group voice and video calls with up to eight people on WhatsApp. As before, these calls are secured with end-to-end encryption so no one else can view or listen to your private conversation, not even WhatsApp.”

Video calling apps and features have been gaining a lot of attention lately. This is due to the coronavirus outbreak where people are relying more on video calls to interact with friends and family members and colleagues. For the most part, Zoom still seems to be highly-popular, but the company’s various privacy and security issues have since allowed other platforms to step up to offer alternative services.

This Company Wants To Turn Wolfenstein Into A Tabletop Board Game

Wolfenstein was one of the first few FPS games available on PCs back in the day, and one could even go as far as saying that the game, along with others such as Quake and Doom, were instrumental in helping popularize the FPS genre. Now it looks like a gaming company by the name of Archon Studio wants to take Wolfenstein and transform it into a tabletop board game.

According to the game’s synopsis, “At the end of the 1950s, an almost 70-year-old Adolf Hitler worries about his deteriorating health and the growing influence of Wilhelm Strasse, who wishes to supplant him. Not happy with thoughts of his demise, the Furher has decided to create two top secret research teams and hide the in the recently rebuilt and reinforced Castle Wolfenstein. One team is to be led by General Oscar von Grim and the second by Professor Solomon Bevli.”

Now obviously given that this will be a board game, the game’s mechanics will be a bit more complex rather than just grabbing and gun and mowing enemies down. Instead, it will rely on miniature figurines as well as cards that will provide players with additional missions. This will also be a game is designed to play with others and each character players choose will come with their own talents and abilities.

From what we can tell based on the images, the figurines are very detailed and appear to be well-crafted. The board game itself also looks fantastic and creates a more immersive playing experience compared to just playing using pieces of paper. The entire game is priced at $120 and if you’re interested, then head on over to its Kickstarter page for the details and to pledge your support.

WhatsApp’s Forwarding Limit Seems To Be Working Wonders

During high-profile events, like elections and the current global pandemic, everyone is constantly seeking as much information as they can find and sharing it. Sometimes this information can be false or wrong, and given how fast messages can spread and go viral, this can be dangerous.

WhatsApp has in the past attempted to curb misinformation by limiting the number of people a message can be forwarded to, although more recently, the company has further increased those limitations by limiting highly-forwarded messages to just one person at a time. It turns out that it was a great idea.

According to a statement made by a company spokesperson, they told TechCrunch that ever since they introduced this new limitation, they are seeing a 70% decrease in highly-forwarded messages. “We recently introduced a limit to sharing ‘highly forwarded messages’ to just one chat. Since putting into place this new limit, globally there has been a 70% reduction in the number of highly forwarded messages sent on WhatsApp.”

This shouldn’t be surprising as due to the increased difficulty in forwarding messages, we imagine that some people just can’t be bothered anymore. Note that this only applies to messages the platform deems as highly-forwarded, meaning that if you want to forward other kinds of messages, those limitations should not be in place.

More Rumors Of A 2020 iPhone Launching With In-Display Touch ID Sensor

We’re sure that some were disappointed when Apple chose to kill off Touch ID on the iPhone and replace it with Face ID. However, in the recent months, we’ve started to hear rumors that Touch ID for the iPhone might not be completely dead and that such a device could very well launch in 2020.

Those rumors are starting to gain traction because according to a report from the Economic Daily News, they are claiming reiterating those rumors and claiming that the 2020 iPhone could come with an in-display fingerprint sensor. It should be noted that rumors of an in-display Touch ID sensor have come from multiple sources in the past.

One of those sources is notable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo who suggested that Apple could bring back Touch ID to the iPhone in either 2020 or 2021, although this latest report is suggesting that it could come sooner rather than later. Apple would not be the first to launch such technology as we have been seeing in-display fingerprint sensors from other handset makers in the past.

It is unclear how Apple’s solution will differ from the others, but the recent report claims that this piece of tech could be a result of a collaboration between BOE and Qualcomm. We have also heard rumors that an in-display fingerprint sensor could come to the iPad, but until Apple actually confirms it, take it with a grain of salt for now.
