UK Clamps Down On Scams Selling ‘Anti-5G’ USB Sticks

5G was heralded to be the next big thing in mobile connectivity and technology. However, there are some people who don’t believe this to be true, and believe that 5G is somehow leading to health complications. More recently, there are some who are buying into a conspiracy theory that claims that 5G could somehow spread the coronavirus.

In fact, over in countries like the UK and Canada, people have been setting cellphone towers on fire. Now it seems that some people are taking advantage of these fears and are selling scam products in the form of USB sticks which they allege can offer up protection against 5G. These USB sticks are sold for obscene amounts of money at £339 each, but upon further inspection, are basically just regular USB drives.

The UK’s Trading Standards are now looking to clamp down on these scams. Speaking to the BBC, Stephen Knight, operations director for London Trading Standards said, “We consider it to be a scam. People who are vulnerable need protection from this kind of unscrupulous trading,”

That being said, it seems that at least for some people who actually bought the product, they do not regret their purchase. This is because for some, the idea of being protected, even if it might not necessarily be true, gives them the peace of mind which in turn allows them to sleep through the night soundly instead of worrying about it.

OnePlus 8 Pro VS Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra In Speed Test

Right now, two of the hottest flagship Android phones in the market right now would probably have to be the OnePlus 8 Pro and the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra. This means that some of you are probably torn between either device, and thanks to a video uploaded onto YouTube by PhoneBuff, hopefully it can help you arrive at a decision.

The video basically pits both phones against each other in a speed test to see which phone is faster. For context, both phones are powered by the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset, but that’s pretty much where the similarities end. The OnePlus 8 Pro has 12GB of RAM versus the Galaxy S20 Ultra’s 16GB of RAM.

It also has less storage (although both use UFS 3.0), and has a slightly lower resolution (marginally). So, which phone is faster? If you don’t have time to watch the entire video, spoiler alert: the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra, although not by a particularly huge margin. In the test, it is clear that the OnePlus 8 Pro is slightly slower.

In the first lap, the OnePlus 8 Pro finished about 8 seconds behind the Galaxy S20 Ultra, but it seems that despite it having less RAM, it managed to keep most of its apps open in the background and in the second lap, it actually took less time than the Galaxy S20 Ultra. However, even then it wasn’t enough to cover the 8 second initial gap.

Now, we should point out that speed alone isn’t enough to determine if a phone is good or bad, but if it matters to you, then perhaps these results might be worth taking a closer look at.

Sony’s PS5 Games Won’t Be Compatible With The PS4

Whenever a new console generation is launched, what we usually see is developers make games that are available on both generations. This is to help the transition and also to make sure that current-gen owners don’t feel too left out. However, it seems that this isn’t a strategy that Sony will be adopting, at least not for their first-party titles.

In an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Sony Interactive Entertainment’s CEO Jim Ryan said, “We have always said that we believe in generations. We believe that when you go to all the trouble of creating a next-gen console, that it should include features and benefits that the previous generation does not include. And that, in our view, people should make games that can make the most of those features.”

This seems to be going in the opposite direction of Microsoft, where the company has pledged that at least for the first two years, first-party Xbox Series X games will also be available on the Xbox One. This might be disappointing for PS4 gamers, but if you were already planning on adopting the PS5, then we suppose it might not necessarily be that big of a deal.

Ryan had also recently hinted that the PS5 won’t necessarily be cheap. Once again, this seems to go against Microsoft’s strategy where the company is planning on making the Xbox Series X competitive in terms of pricing.

Sony Acknowledges That The PS5 Won’t Necessarily Be Cheap

When the Sony PS4 launched, it managed to gain a massive lead over the Microsoft Xbox One thanks to its price (amongst other things). It was priced at about $100 cheaper, making it a pretty clear choice for those who weren’t necessarily loyal to any particular platform, but it sees that price won’t be the selling point for the company’s upcoming PS5.

Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz, Sony Interactive Entertaniment’s president and CEO Jim Ryan hinted that in terms of pricing, the PS5 might not necessarily be the cheapest console around. Ryan was quoted as saying, “I think the best way that we can address this is by providing the best possible value proposition that we can. I don’t necessarily mean lowest price.”

Ryan goes on to add, “Value is a combination of many things. In our area it means games, it means number of games, depth of games, breadth of games, quality of games, price of games… all of these things and how they avail themselves of the feature set of the platform.” Right now there is no word on how much the PS5 will cost, but if the rumors are true, we could be looking at a price tag close to $500.

Sony had previously said that the price would be “appealing to gamers”, but that’s rather vague. It also seems to be a different approach from Microsoft, where the company had hinted that the Xbox Series X’s price will be “competitive”.

Amazon Echo Look WIll Be Shutting Down This July

Back in 2017, Amazon expanded on its Echo series of smart devices with something called the Echo Look. This was basically a smart camera of sorts, where users could rely on AI and also crowdsourced information and feedback to determine if what they’re wearing looks good and to seek out advice on what to wear.

It was an interesting idea, but it seems that Amazon’s experiment with the Echo Look is over. Speaking to Voicebot.ai, an Amazon spokesperson confirmed that come July 24, 2020, the Echo Look will be discontinued and that the accompany app and the device itself will cease to function.

According to Amazon, the reason for this is because the company has since moved some of its features to the Amazon Shopping app, which means that there is less need for such a device. “When we introduced Echo Look three years ago, our goal was to train Alexa to become a style assistant as a novel way to apply AI and machine learning to fashion.”

“With the help of our customers we evolved the service, enabling Alexa to give outfit advice and offer style recommendations. We’ve since moved Style by Alexa features into the Amazon Shopping app and to Alexa-enabled devices making them even more convenient and available to more Amazon customers.”
