Epic Games Store Introduces Self-Serve Refunds To Cut Down On Waiting Times

One of the upsides to buying a product from a physical store is that if you wanted to return, exchange, or refund it, you can just go back to the shop and assuming you meet all the requirements, it can be done in a matter of minutes. Refunding a digital purchase, however, can result in waiting times.

This is because refunds done online usually requires it to be reviewed by humans, and given the numbers of requests, it could be a while before yours is processed. However, it seems that Epic is trying to make the process a lot easier with its Epic Games Store in the form of a new self-serve refund feature.

Of course, gamers will need to make sure they meet the requirements first before the refund can be processed. Based on Epic’s policy, this means that the refund request needs to take place within 14 days of the game being purchased, and that it cannot be played for more than 2 hours. Gamers will also need to make sure that they aren’t banned from the game, plus Epic will also be keeping an eye out for gamers who might also be attempting to abuse this refund process.

Assuming you meet all those requirements, you should receive your refund pretty quickly. For those who use Steam to purchase their games, you can check out our guide here on how to get refunds from the Steam store.

Researchers Working On Face Mask That Kills The Coronavirus On Contact

Face masks are recommended to be worn while out in public. This is because face masks helps reduce the chance of the coronavirus spreading further, especially if you’re sick or if there are people who are sick around you. However, this is only prevention, but thanks to the work of researchers, they are working on a more permanent solution.

According to reports, researchers from the University of Kentucky are working on a face mask that could actually kill/neutralize the virus upon contact. How face masks prevent the virus from spreading is that it creates a filter between your nose and mouth and the outside air where the virus could be in.

The filters in the mask, assuming they’re the correct type, will have holes too small for the virus to get inside your respiratory system. However, with these masks that are being developed, not only will they prevent the virus from getting it, but it will also be able to kill it when it touches the mask itself.

According to Dibakar Bhattacharyya, a chemical engineering professor who is the director of the university’s Center of Membrane Sciences, “The novel coronavirus is covered in club-shaped ‘s-protein’ spikes, which give it its crownlike, or coronal, appearance. The protein spikes are also what allows the virus to enter host cells once in the body. This new membrane will include proteolytic enzymes that will attach to the protein spikes of the coronavirus and separate them, killing the virus.”

The mask is currently in development where according to Bhattacharyya, he estimates that it will probably take about six months to complete its development before it moves onto manufacturing.

Moderna’s COVID-19 Vaccine Shows Promising Results, Could Be Ready In January 2021

Moderna is one of the many companies out there who are racing to develop a vaccine to the COVID-19 virus. The company has been forging ahead steadily and have been conducting clinical trials. Health officials have estimated that it would probably take 12-18 months to develop a vaccine, but Moderna thinks it can be done sooner.

Speaking to CNN, Modern’s chief medical officer Dr. Tal Zaks has revealed that they have been seeing positive signs in their clinical trials where based on these results, the company seems to be optimistic that a vaccine could be made available to the public as early as January 2021, although we suppose you should keep your fingers crossed as these trials are still in the early stages.

So far, Moderna is in Phase 1 of its clinical trials which usually involves just a small number of participants. The idea behind the first phase is to test how safe the vaccine is for human consumption, and whether or not it can provoke the body’s immune response. Based on the results, participants in the trial were found to have developed antibodies to the virus at levels similar to or exceeding people who have naturally recovered from the COVID-19 virus.

The company has since been cleared by the FDA to enter Phase 2 that will involved several hundred participants, with Moderna planning to enter Phase 3 in July which will involve tens of thousands of people.

Google Survey Seemingly Confirms The Pixel 4a, Pixel 5’s Prices

pixel 4Last week, a rumor had suggested that the price of Google’s upcoming Pixel 4a could be set at $349. This not only makes it cheaper than its predecessor, but it also makes it cheaper than Apple’s iPhone SE. Of course given that this is a rumor, it was hard to tell how accurate this price is.

However, the good news is that it looks like there could be some truth to these claims. According to a post on Reddit by u/Pop-Quiz_Kid, it seems that Google has sent out a survey to some of its customers as part of its Google Opinion Rewards app. In the survey, the company asks which of these two theoretical smartphones would customers be interested in purchasing.

One of the phones is a “Google Pixel Phone” that features a durable plastic body, is “radically helpful”, and includes a 3.5mm headphone jack, and is priced starting at $349. Presumably this would be the rumored Pixel 4a smartphone, which was followed by a “Premium Google Pixel Phone” with it being “the best flagship” Google phone and offers features like “first access” to the latest Google features and innovation, along with a “best in class” camera, wireless charging, and water-resistance.

This particular handset is set at a hypothetical price of $699, which many (including ourselves) are assuming it is the Pixel 5. This also seems to hint that like the Pixel 4a, the Pixel 5 could be priced cheaper than its predecessor,  the Pixel 4, which launched last year at a starting price of $799.

Now, there’s no way to guarantee that these will be the actual prices of the Pixel 4a or Pixel 5, but the survey is rather telling and hopefully these lowered prices are the real deal.

The next Google Pixel is rumored to roll with a premium tier, a device series with an “Ultra” Pixel of sorts. Details revealed by a real-deal Google survey suggest they’re looking into pricing a Google Pixel smartphone well above what they’ve charged in the past. While it’s possible they could just be raising prices for no good reason, it’s far … Continue reading
