Dyson Shows Off Its Cancelled Electric Car

When we mention the company and brand Dyson, you might be thinking of the company’s fancy hi-tech fans, hairdryers, or lights, but did you also know that the company was also working on an electric car of their own? If you did not, yes, Dyson was working on it before they shelved it, and now they have taken the wraps off on what could have been.

This was revealed during James Dyson’s exclusive interview for The Sunday Times Rich List where for the first time, Dyson managed to top the 2020 Rich List where it was estimated that he has a £16.2 billion fortune. During the interview, Dyson revealed that the company’s seven-seater electric car, codenamed N526, had an impressive range of 600 miles, putting quite literally miles ahead of the competition from the likes of Tesla.

He also revealed that the vehicle was capable of going from zero to 62mph in 4.8 seconds, and could reach top speeds of 125mph. Dyson also claims to have spent about £500 million of his own money to fund the project, but ultimately found that it was impossible to make it commercially viable and had to abandon it in October last year.

We’re not sure what the market would have looked like had Dyson entered the electric car space, but with a range of 600 miles, it would most certainly have addressed some of the concerns that people might have when adopting an electric car for the first time.

Scammers Use Data Breaches To Scam Government Unemployment Insurance Programs

In countries like the US, there are programs that help those who are unemployed by allowing them to claim unemployment benefits. These programs have become more important than ever, due to the coronavirus pandemic that has forced many companies to temporarily or permanently shut down.

This has left many people around the world unemployed, and these people are starting to turn to unemployment insurance programs to get them through these tough times. Unfortunately, things might get tougher as according to a report from KrebsOnSecurity, they have discovered a memo by the Secret Service that is being circulated in the US, warning these unemployment insurance programs about an ongoing scam.

This scammer ring is said to have been relying on personal user information stolen from data breaches, such as Social Security numbers, and using them to file for unemployment claims. The scammers are also taking advantage of the poor security measures that are currently in place, where certain states do not have the ability to detect multiple applications from the same internet address.

While we imagine that stricter measures will need to be put into place to prevent these scams, what this means for those people who legitimately file for these claims could end up waiting longer as states may need to run more extensive background checks to ensure the filing is the real deal.

Bug In Edison Email App Allowed Users To View Other Users’ Emails

Third-party email apps are great as more often than not, they come with powerful features that default email apps do not. Unfortunately, in the case of the popular Edison email app, it seems that a recent update has resulted in a bug that has allowed the emails of other users show up in the inboxes of another user.

This is (no) thanks to a new feature in the Edison email app that allows users to sync messages. However, as some users have reported, for some reason it has synced the messages belonging to other users who also use the app, thus allowing some emails to be read by complete strangers.

According to the developer, it seems that this might have only affected a “small percent” of their users, and they have since rolled back the update to prevent it from spreading further. However, even then we imagine that it might be too late because there’s really no way for someone to “unread” the email message belonging to someone else.

The developers are also stressing that this is by no means a data breach and that they have not been hacked. They have also since reached out to users affected by this, but like we said, we’re not sure what can be done once an email has been ready. We can only hope that the messages that were accidentally synced to another account did not contain sensitive information.
