This ‘Gun’ Will Be Able To Shoot Drones Out Of The Sky In A Safe Manner

Taking out unauthorized drones from the skies usually involves shooting it down. However, the problem with this more conventional method is that as a result, the drone will fall uncontrollably and could hurt or damage people or property below it. However, an Australian company by the name of DroneShield thinks they might have a safer solution.

The company has designed a rifle-shaped device called the DroneGun Tactical that is able to shoot drones out of the sky using radio waves. This is essentially a frequency jammer of sorts where it removes the control of the drone from its operator. So wouldn’t this cause the drone to just fall out of the sky?

According to DroneShield, it won’t. This is because “most” modern drones have apparently been designed to automatically land itself when its frequency is jammed. This means that the drone will continue to operate and will engage landing protocols instead of simply tumbling to the ground from the sky.

The DroneGun Tactical weighs about 14 pounds and has a range of 1.2 miles and can be operated by a single person, making it a mobile solution that can be used on the go and pretty much anywhere, and making it ideal for military or law enforcement use.

Check Out The OnePlus 8 Pro’s ‘X-Ray Vision’

We’re not sure if this was an intended feature, but it seems that users of the OnePlus 8 Pro are discovering that their smartphone camera has pseudo X-ray vision capabilities. Yup, if you own the handset, using the camera’s “Photochrom” color filter mode will actually allow you to see through certain objects.

Note that this feature doesn’t work for everything, and before you start getting any ideas, no, it won’t work on clothing. Instead, it seems that with the use of the camera’s infrared sensor, it actually allows it to see through very thin pieces of plastic. It has also been pointed out that the plastic needs to be somewhat translucent to begin with.

In the examples we’ve seen, this feature can work on devices like the Apple TV and also remote controls. As The Verge explains, this is because infrared light can pass through objects in a way that visible light cannot. This is why infrared cameras are used by firefighters to help them see through smoke in burning buildings that they might not have otherwise been able to see with their own eyes.

OnePlus is not alone in using infrared sensors in their cameras. The iPhone’s TrueDepth camera uses similar technology, which is why it scans your face when using Face ID. OnePlus has not commented on the (potentially) unintended feature, but if you own the OnePlus 8 Pro, then this could be a fun feature to check out.

B&O Beosound A1 (2nd Gen) Announced With Alexa Integration

Bang & Olufsen’s speakers are pretty well-known, and if you are in the market for a new set of Bluetooth speakers, then you might want to check out the company’s Beosound A1. If this sounds familiar, it is because the A1 was originally launched back in 2016, but this particular model is the second-gen model that comes with some changes and improvements over its predecessor.

For starters, and perhaps one of its main selling points, is that Bang & Olufsen are calling the second-gen A1 the world’s first Bluetooth speaker with Alexa integration. Bluetooth speakers with Alexa aren’t new, but the A1 is a battery-powered Bluetooth speaker, unlike other speakers that require it to be connected to a power source.

This is achieved by using Bluetooth to pair with a device that has an internet connection and is connected to Alexa services over WiFi. This means that the speaker and your mobile device must always be within range of each other. The speakers will feature a far-field microphone that can detect voices up to 5m away, so there will be some leeway on that front.

Other changes to the second-gen A1 include better battery life, a new slimmer waterproof design, and also enhanced drivers. If this sounds like a set of speakers you might be interested in, the B&O Beosound A1 will be priced at €250.

Fitbit Wants To Start Making Emergency Ventilators

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the world is running out of certain medical supplies as more of these supplies and equipment are being used more so than ever. It looks like Fitbit wants to do their part to help and according to the company’s CEO James Park, the company is looking to make emergency ventilators that can be used by healthcare workers.

Speaking to CNBC, Park revealed that Fitbit will be submitting their plans to make emergency ventilators to FDA for approval. These ventilators were designed after consulting physicians from Massachusetts General Brigham and Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU). The company is hoping that with their supply chain, they’ll be able to contribute to the fight.

According to Park, “There was a lot of concern about the shortage of ventilators and we realized we had expertise already around the supply chain.” He adds, “I think one of the advantages for us is that we have the infrastructure and manufacturing capability. We already make 10 million (wearable) devices per year, and we plan to leverage that to make deliver product at whatever volumes are needed.”

Fitbit won’t be the first company to leverage its manufacturing and production facilities to produce medical equipment. Other companies such as Razer have already started using their production lines to start making face masks.

New Rumor Claims Apple’s AR Glasses Will Launch In 2021, Not 2022

The other day, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claimed that Apple’s AR glasses will most likely not be revealed until 2022 at the earliest. Given Kuo’s near impeccable track record when it comes to reporting on Apple’s unannounced plans, this was probably as close as we could have gotten to an official confirmation of sorts.

However, another well-known leakster in the community, Jon Prosser of FrontpageTech, has since refuted Kuo’s claims. In a tweet by Prosser, he is claiming that the Apple Glasses (or whatever it may eventually be called) will be launching in 2021 instead. According to Prosser, he believes that the device is aimed for a launch between March to June 2021.

It is unclear if this means the device will be released then, or if it could be similar to how Apple approached the Mac Pro, where they unveiled it and then only made it available for purchase months later. Prosser also claims to have seen the Apple Glasses and that they are “sleek as hell”.

Apple has long been rumored to be working on a pair of smart glasses, and with the company’s interest in augmented reality, it is largely assumed that we could be looking at something similar to the Google Glass. While the concept of smart glasses sounds good, it has never quite taken off in a big way. Perhaps Apple could change that, but we’ll have to wait and see. Until then, take it with a grain of salt.
