Dell Brings Back The 17-inch Laptop With Its New XPS 17

Back in the day, companies like Dell and Apple would offer laptops with a 17-inch display. However, the trend for smaller laptops started to grow and the largest laptops you could find were 15-inch models (save for some gaming laptops), but now it looks like Dell wants to revive the 17-inch form factor again.

After about close to a decade of the last XPS 17, Dell has since officially announced a new model to the lineup. Some might argue that 17-inch laptops might be a bit too big to be brought around, but as you can see from the image, Dell has shrunk the bezels of the laptop to make it slimmer and create a smaller footprint. Dell is also boasting that this makes the XPS 17 the “smallest 17-inch laptop on the planet”.

The laptop will feature display options of either FHD or 4K, and under the hood, customers can configure it to sport Intel’s 10th gen Core i9 45W processors, up to 64GB of RAM, and up to 2TB of storage. There will also be a discrete GPU in the form of NVIDIA’s GTX 1650 Ti Max-Q, or the RTX 2060.

Dell is also claiming to have improved on the cooling for the XPS 17 where it features a new thermal design to boost airflow, and a custom vapor chamber that will help keep the chips cool during heavy loads. The laptop has also ditched older USB ports and has gone with four USB-C Thunderbolt 3 ports instead, along with a SD card reader. The Dell XPS 17 is priced starting at $1,499 and will be available for purchase this summer.

Chrome Users Will Soon Be Able To Group Tabs Together

If you’re someone who opens up a ton of tabs, sometimes keeping track of them can be a hassle. If you’re organized, you might push tabs that are similar in nature together, but even then, it can get easily lost and confused. The good news for Chrome users is that Google will be introducing tab grouping in an update next week.

This is actually a feature that Google had previously tested and for some, it can also be enabled via Chrome’s Experimental flag feature. However, it looks like the company is now ready for more users to use it as they state that they will be rolling out tab groups in an upcoming update to Chrome.

In case you’re wondering what is tab grouping, this feature will allow users to group tabs together and add a color and emoji to them. This is entirely up to the user as to how they want to manage this, where some might choose to use colors to denote the urgency of the tabs, or maybe separate them by work and personal, email, and so on. The addition of labels and emojis means that you can also make it clearer as to what tabs are for what.

For those who can’t wait, Google has already rolled out the feature in the latest version of Chrome Beta, so you can check it out there if you want to get an idea of how the feature will work.

Facebook Avatars Finally Make Their Way To The US

In the recent years, we’ve started to see more companies offer up more personalized avatar designs. In the past, we would be mostly looking at flat, 2D drawings for avatars, but these days, companies like Samsung and Apple have created new tools and features that lets users create a more customized 3D avatar that they can use for emojis or profile pictures.

In fact, Facebook has recently launched something similar simply called Avatars. For those who are wondering why this sounds familiar, it is because back in 2019, the company actually rolled out the feature but it was limited to those who were living in Australia and New Zealand, but now it looks like the feature has been made available to users living the US and Canada.

Users who are interested in creating their own Avatars will be able to pick from a variety of faces, hair styles, and accessories to create something that is truly their own. For now, users will only be able to use these Avatars in comment,s chats, and Facebook Gaming profiles, but the company expects that eventually it will come to text posts as well.

The rollout of the feature is a bit slow so if you don’t see it available yet, not to worry as it should eventually find its way to you. As for the rest of the world, we guess you will just have to remain patient and wait for it to come.

Check Out This Inflatable Scooter That Can Fit In Your Backpack

Cycling, skating, or hopping onto a scooter is no doubt a faster mode of transportation compared to walking. However, the downside is that you need to bring it around with you and find a place to keep it. There is also the risk of it getting stolen. However, thanks to researchers at the University of Tokyo, they have developed an e-scooter that is inflatable and fits inside of your backpack.

This means that you can deflate it when you get to your location and store it inside your bag. When you’re ready to go, re-inflate it, hop on it, and zoom off to your next location! Dubbed the Poimo, it seems that this scooter can be inflated in just a minute using an electric pump, and it seems to move pretty fast as well.

The scooter will be constructed out of thermoplastic polyurethane which is used to make products like airbeds, so it should be durable enough for a human to sit on it without damaging it. It also sports an electric motor, a battery, and handlebars that feature a wireless controller, with the total setup weighing in at around 5.5kg.

The concept of soft robots aren’t new, so it’s interesting to see the idea applied to vehicles like the Poimo. There is no word on if there are plans to eventually commercialize the Poimo, but sign us up if that ever does happen!
