A Spike of New Coronavirus Infections Prompts Seoul to Close Bars and Clubs

To help those who might be facing financial hardships to stay connected, internet companies such as Comcast had previously announced that they will be opening up more than 1 million of its Xfinity hotspots around the US. This means that for those without internet access at home, they’ll be able to hook onto Comcast’s Xfinity hotspots instead.
However, it seems that a handful of US Senators don’t think that Comcast’s efforts are enough, and in a letter sent to the company, Democratic senators Kamala Harris, Cory Booker, and Ron Wyden are calling on Comcast to open all of its hotspots to better help students who are stuck at home and need the internet to continue with their education.
Right now, the Xfinity hotspots that Comcast has opened up are mostly in public spaces like shopping districts and parks, which given the stay-at-home orders, doesn’t really make sense. Instead, the senators are urging the company to open up its hotspots in residential areas, which are usually locked behind a paywall only accessible by the company’s paying customers and their guests.
However, according to Senator Wyden, Comcast responded to their initial request by saying that this would not be possible as it could create a congestion that would impact the speed for its paying customers. The senators have since given the company until the 22nd of May to answer questions, such as how these wireless hotspots are managed and what kind of performance problems customers might experience should these hotspots were to be opened up to everyone.

For a while now, we have been hearing rumors that Apple could be looking to develop their own brand of over-ear headphones, and now according to the latest rumor from Jon Prosser, he claims that these headphones will be known as the AirPods Studio and that they could cost as much as $349.
Apple has long been making their own earphones which are bundled with the iPhone. However, when it comes to headphones, the company has instead chosen to release Beats-brand devices which they acquired several years ago. If these rumors are true, it could be the first pair of Apple-branded headphones we’ll be seeing from the Cupertino company.
What’s interesting about these headphones is that a pretty wild rumor suggested that it could be quite customizable where it could offer swappable parts as one of its features. However, unlike modular headphones like AIAIAI’s TMA-2 HD, these swappable parts are merely for aesthetics and functionality, where users can swap out the ear pads and headbands that might be better suited for workout.
Looks like Apple is sticking with the “AirPods” branding for their new over-ear headphones.

In any case, take it with a grain of salt for now, but hopefully we’ll have more details soon. There is still no word on when this device could be announced, but we heard that it could take place at WWDC 2020 which is currently scheduled as an online-only event on the 22nd of June.

WHO To Develop COVID-19 Contact Tracing App For Countries That Aren’t Making Their Own
Posted in: Today's ChiliThere are several countries around the world who are developing COVID-19 contacting tracing apps and services of their own. This is done to better help identify people who have the disease and to see who they might have come into contact with, which in turn better allows health officials to get a handle on the situation faster.
However, not all countries are doing this as some might not have the necessary resources to do so, but the good news is that the World Health Organization (WHO) plans to help. During an interview with Reuters, Bernardo Mariano, chief information officer for the WHO, revealed that the WHO will be developing a contact tracing app which can be used by countries who aren’t making their own.
According to Mariano, “The value is really for countries that do not have anything. We would be leaving behind the ones that are not able to (provide an app), that have fragile health systems.” This would be possible alternative because as you might have heard, both Apple and Google are also developing a contact tracing system which can be integrated into both iOS and Android and also into apps,
However, some countries have refused to adopt Apple and Google’s system and have instead chosen to go ahead with their own platforms.
