NYPD’s Prejudiced Law Enforcement Doesn’t Take a Break During the Coronavirus Pandemic

The New York Police Department hasn’t let the coronavirus pandemic go to waste when it comes to pulling the same racist bullshit: The agency issued 374 criminal summonses related to alleged violations of the city’s social distancing guidelines between March 16 and May 5—and over 81 percent of them went to New Yorkers…

Facebook Is Asking For This Dog’s Driving License After Its Owner Gets Locked Out Of Its Page

There are some people who love their pets so much that they create dedicated social media accounts for them on platforms like Facebook and Instagram, and we totally get it. However, losing access to that account can be quite a hassle, as 33-year old dog owner Emily Doucet found out.

Doucet had previously created a Facebook profile for her pet dog Max, but recently when attempting to log into Max’s account to change his last name to her married name, Doucet ran into a problem because she had forgotten that account’s password. After a few tries, she found herself locked out and attempted to recover it.

However, that’s when things got a bit weird/funny. To recover an account, Facebook needs to know that you are indeed the owner of the page and will ask for personal identification like a driver’s license, but in this case, Max being a dog, has no way to prove himself, short of him taking a driving test.

According to Facebook spokesperson Ruchika Budhraja, “Profiles are meant to represent people, and we ask that people set up Pages if they want to represent a brand, business, group, organization – or pet.” As for Doucet, she doesn’t seem to be too upset about it and totally understands where Facebook is coming from, but she also thinks that the company should be a bit more flexible and understanding and to “let people have fun”.

Samsung Finally Patches Zero-Day Vulnerability That Has Been Around Since 2014

As much as companies try to test their devices to look for bugs and security flaws, it would be impossible for them to spot everything. This is because we all use our devices differently, and the various combinations and deviations are simply too many for companies to consider every scenario.

As such, from time to time we do hear about companies who might have had security flaws sitting around for years before they are discovered and patched. Such is the case with Samsung who has recently patched a zero-day vulnerability that has actually been around on Samsung devices since 2014.

This vulnerability was discovered by Mateusz Jerczyk, a security researcher who works with Google’s Project Zero. The vulnerability involved how Samsung devices handle the custom Qmage image format, which Samsung started supporting in late 2014. Had this vulnerability been exploited, hackers could easily attack devices without the user even having to interact with it at all.

The security flaw was discovered in February and when Samsung was told about it, they managed to issue a patch in May that fixed it. To date there have not been any reports of the vulnerability being exploited in the wild, despite it having been around for so long, so that’s a relief.

Apple’s Mini LED Devices Might Now Be Delayed To 2021

For a while now we have been hearing that Apple could be looking to adopt mini LED display technology for its products, like the iPad Pro which to date, still relies on LCD, unlike the iPhones which have mostly made the transition to OLED. However, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, he believes that Apple could have delayed their mini LED products to 2021.

According to Kuo, “We believe that investors do not need to worry too much about the extension of the mini LED schedule, because mini LED is a key technology that Apple will promote in the next 5 years, so even if the short-term schedule is affected by the new coronary pneumonia, it will not damage the long-term positive trend.”

This seems to be in line with a report from April by another analyst who claims that the mini LED iPad Pro could be launched in 2021 instead of 2020 like it was previously expected. For those unfamiliar, Apple gave the iPad Pro a refresh earlier this year where it came with a new A12Z chipset and a LiDAR scanner.

However, there were rumors suggesting that there could be a new “high-end” model scheduled for later this year, which presumably was the mini LED model. Other rumored mini LED products include an updated 16-inch MacBook Pro, but if this report is true, it looks like customers will have to wait until 2021 before they can see it.
