13-inch MacBook Pro With Magic Keyboard Announced

We have been hearing rumors that Apple was planning on updating its 13-inch MacBook Pro, and if you have been looking forward to the update, you’ll be pleased to learn that it is finally here. With this update, it also seems that Apple has finally ridded itself of its laptops that use the old and problematic butterfly keyboard design.

One of the main changes to the 13-inch MacBook Pro update is the keyboard, where it will now use the same Magic Keyboard that is featured in Apple’s other laptops. This turns to the use of a scissor switch mechanism which people are claiming not only feels more responsive, but it also seems to be less prone to issues compared to previous models, or at least for now.

Of course, in addition to the keyboard change, Apple has also updated the processors for the new laptops using Intel’s 10th-gen processors that they claim offers up to 80% faster graphics performance. They have also doubled up on the memory of the laptops, and as expected, they’ll feature Touch ID and Touch Bar.

For those who are interested in getting their hands on the new 13-inch MacBook Pro, the laptops will be priced starting at $1,299 (these laptops will continue to use the 8th-gen Intel chipsets, but will come with increased base storage) and will go up depending on how you choose to configure it.

Google Drive For iOS Now Supports Face ID And Touch ID

If you use Google Drive on your phone to access files on the go, then you might be pleased to learn that in the latest update to the app, Google has introduced support for biometric security for the app. This means that users will be able to use either Face ID or Touch ID to protect their files from being accessed.

How this works is that when you launch the app or move away from the app to another app, whenever you reopen the app, it will prompt users to unlock it using their face or fingerprint. Users will have the option of choosing how long they want to keep the app unlocked for, so if you want to multitask and switch back and forth often, then you can opt for a longer delay between security prompts.

However, it should be noted that Google does point out that there are some limitations to this. While for the most part it should prevent unauthorized users from accessing your files on your phone, notifications are protected and some Siri functions aren’t protected either, meaning that the new security features won’t offer up 100% security or privacy.

Google had actually introduced these security features a few  years ago, but for some reason, the company later pulled it, so it’s  good to see that it is back again. You will have to update to the latest version of the app if you want access to these new security features.

Microsoft Shifts Windows 10X’s Focus To Single-Screen Devices

We reckon that Microsoft isn’t 100% sold on foldable devices. This is because instead of hopping onto the foldable bandwagon, the company has opted to announce dual screen devices like the Surface Duo smartphone and the Surface Neo. However, it now seems that the company’s dual screen devices could be delayed.

According to a blog post on Microsoft’s website, the company has revealed that they will be shifting the focus of Windows 10X’s development towards single-screen devices. “With Windows 10X, we designed for flexibility, and that flexibility has enabled us to pivot our focus toward single-screen Windows 10X devices that leverage the power of the cloud to help our customers work, learn and play in new ways.”

For those unfamiliar, Window 10X is a forked version of Windows 10 designed for the dual-screen mobile devices like phones and tablets. It was reported last month that Microsoft would be focusing on single-screen devices first, and now based on the blog post, it looks like those rumors were true.

This doesn’t mean that the company has given up on dual-screen smartphones, but rather it looks like these devices might come later than expected. “These single-screen devices will be the first expression of Windows 10X that we deliver to our customers, and we will continue to look for the right moment, in conjunction with our OEM partners, to bring dual-screen devices to market.”
