Lawmaker Who Spoke at 'Reopen' Protest Questions Study Linking Air Pollution to Coronavirus Deaths

The coronavirus pandemic is truly showing us who the real snakes in Congress are. We already had an idea, of course, given how many right-wing lawmakers deny climate science, but even in the face of endless death, these fools continue to ignore science and public health all in the name of good ol’ American pandering.

Uber To Develop Tech To Ensure Drivers Wear Face Masks

Given the current coronavirus pandemic, there are people in certain industries that will no doubt have to meet and interact with many strangers on a daily basis. This includes Uber drivers who during the course of the day, come into contact with different people which does put them in a situation where it increases the likelihood of them catching the disease.

It also means that there is a chance that they themselves could pass on the disease as they could be an asymptomatic carrier. Uber is requiring that its drivers wear face masks, but the question is, how can they enforce it? It turns out that they can as Uber has been revealed that they are working on technology that will ensure that drivers wear masks while fetching passengers.

How exactly they plan on doing this is unclear, but given that Uber already has facial verification capabilities via its “Real Time ID-check” feature, perhaps they might leverage that to detect if drivers are wearing face masks, and also maybe giving customers a chance to report drivers who aren’t.

In a statement made to CNN Business, Uber was quoted as saying, “As countries reopen, Uber is focused on safety and proceeding with caution. Today, we continue to ask riders to stay home if they can, while shipping safety supplies to drivers who are providing essential trips. At the same time, our teams are preparing for the next phase of recovery, where we will all have a role to play.”

Microsoft Hit With Lawsuit Over Xbox Controller ‘Stick Drift’

Over time, we expect that our gadgets will start to fail and no longer operate like they did when it was new. This is to be expected due to wear and tear, but sometimes things just seem to fail faster than expected, such is the case with Microsoft and its Xbox One controllers, where many users are reporting an issue with “stick drift”.

So much so that a class-action lawsuit has been filed against the company in which it alleges that Microsoft knows about the problem but still release the controller anyway, and to make it worse, the company is making customers pay for the repair, despite the allegations that this is a well-known problem.

According to the filing, “A simple Google search on this issue reveals multiple forum and message boards dedicated to stick drift; YouTube instructional videos of users attempting to fix the issue on their own; and even replacement joystick components from Amazon and other sellers.”

For those unfamiliar, stick drift is when one of the movement controllers on a controller fails and starts registering movement in the game even if no one is touching the controller. This would not be the first time we’re hearing about this problem as previously, Nintendo Switch gamers had also run into similar issues with the Joy-Cons.

Apple Watch Helped Woman Prove To Her Doctors She Had A Heart Issue

It is often recommended that features on our smartwatches, like the ECG tool built into the Apple Watch, should not be used to replace actual professional medical equipment. This means that you shouldn’t 100% rely on the readings to self-diagnose, but rather you could take the readings as a sign that you should get yourself checked out.

In what seems like a twist, a report from the European Heart Journal revealed a case involving an 80-year old woman who actually had to use her readings from her Apple Watch to prove to doctors that she did indeed have a heart problem, an issue that apparently a traditional ECG monitor did not show any evidence of.

However, after doctors reviewed the readings from her watch, they were ultimately able to diagnose her and identify the issue where she underwent surgery to fix it.

According to the doctors, “The development of smart technologies paves the way for new diagnostic possibilities. In the case of the Apple watch, after the mobile application is installed, the records an ECG when a finger is placed on the watch’s digital crown. A 30-s tracing is stored in a PDF file that can be retrieved from the application. Thus, the Apple watch may be used not only to detect atrial fibrillation or atrioventricular-conduction disturbances but also to detect myocardial ischaemia.”
