Apple’s iPhone 11 Has Surpassed The iPhone XR As The World’s Most Popular Smartphone

It looks like Apple could have a winning formula on their hands because according to data released by Omdia, it has been suggested that the iPhone 11, released last year, is now the “world’s most popular” smartphone, surpassing that of the iPhone XR which was released in 2018.

This is based on global smartphone shipments in which the iPhone 11 managed to ship 19.5 million units in Q1 2020. This is versus the iPhone XR which managed to ship 13.6 million units in Q1 2019. It also shows what a massive lead the iPhone 11 has over its competition, like the Samsung Galaxy A51 which comes in second place, although it is very far behind at only 6.8 million units.

Like we said, this seems to suggest that Apple has a pretty good formula on their hands. What do we mean by this? For those unfamiliar, the iPhone XR and iPhone 11 are the base models for their respective lineups. They offer slightly less features, use an LCD screen, and also have a much more affordable price tag.

This seems to be more than enough to convince customers to purchase them over their more expensive siblings. In fact, in 2019 we were hearing reports that the iPhone XR was dominating smartphone sales, and now it looks like its successor is enjoying similar, if not greater, levels of success.

Spotify Drops The 10,000 Song Limit On Libraries

If you’re a music lover, there is a chance that your library of music has grown over the years where it could contain thousands of songs. There is even a chance you might have amassed over 10,000 songs. However, if you used streaming services like Spotify, then you might have run into issues with that.

This is because Spotify used to have a limit of 10,000 songs in a user’s library, but not anymore. The company has announced that they will be killing off the 10,000 song limit in libraries, meaning that in theory, you should be able to keep an unlimited number of songs in your library at one go.

According to the company, “This makes it possible to save songs, and albums on Spotify to your heart’s content. Avid Spotify users like me will no longer have to curate their Library, or remove songs before adding new tracks. This also avoids that anxious feeling that appears when you’re deciding whether to save full albums, or select single tracks in anticipation of the ‘epic collection my friend’ pop up.”

However, we should note that this only applies to your general library. As far as playlists are concerned, there is still a limit on the number of songs which is set at 10,000. It will also not apply to offline downloads, where if you’re a Spotify Premium subscriber, you can only download up to 10,000 songs on five different devices for offline listening.

Formula E Driver Caught Hiring A Professional Gamer To Race For Him in eSports Event

Now that quite a number of major sporting events have been cancelled, what we’re seeing is how some sporting organizations and event organizers have come up with some creative solutions, such as getting professional athletes to compete in the eSports version of the game that they play.

While there might be some procedures and systems in place to prevent cheating during a real-life sporting event, it seems that organizers are still working out the kinks for the eSports alternative. This is because according to reports, Formula E driver Daniel Abt was disqualified and ordered to pay a fine after he was caught having hired a professional gamer to play in his place during an official eSports race.

Abt finished third in the event, which was meant to be a fun event and raise money for UNICEF, and apparently raised some eyebrows when he did not appear in the post-race interview. It was later discovered that he had hired a professional gamer to take his place in the fifth round, which according to Abt, was meant to be a “joke”.

According to Abt, “We had a conversation and the idea came up that it would be a funny move if a sim racer basically drove for me, to show the other, real drivers, what he is capable of and use the chance to drive against them. We wanted to document it and create a funny story for the fans with it.” Abt has since been let go by Audi from its Formula E racing team following the scandal.

More Evidence Suggests That The Pixel 5 Will Not Use The Snapdragon 865 Chipset

pixel 4Google’s Pixel 5 is largely expected to be announced later this year. It will be the company’s flagship phone for 2020, except that there is mounting evidence to suggest that the handset will not be sporting flagship hardware If you were rightfully assuming that the phone could come with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset, think again.

This is because according to a report from XDA Developers, they have uncovered more evidence to suggest that the Pixel 5 will instead be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765 (or one of its variants) instead. This is based on the latest strings of code discovered in the Android 11 Developer Preview by XDA Senior Member cstark27, in which there are references made that suggests that the phone could use the Snapdragon 765 chipset.

XDA aren’t alone in their claims as another separate report from Android Police’s David Ruddock also suggests that the Pixel 5 will be powered by the Snapdragon 765G chipset. It is unclear why Google is opting to use the less powerful Snapdragon 765G chipset, but it is possible that it might be related to costs.

The Pixel phones have been seeing a steady rise in its prices over the years, so by switching to a mid-range chipset, Google could be looking to lower the costs, which in turn could lower the price for consumers. Either way, take it with a grain of salt for now, but hopefully we’ll have more details in the near future.

It Looks Like BlizzCon Will Not Be Taking Place This Year

Blizzard typically hosts an event every year around November known as BlizzCon. It is one of the biggest gaming events in the year as this is when Blizzard usually announces updates to their games as well as new titles. Unfortunately, it looks like BlizzCon 2020 will not be taking place this year.

This is due to the coronavirus pandemic in which Blizzard has chosen not to host the event in person If you were thinking about an online-only event, that’s what Blizzard seems to be considering, although it appears that the company is thinking about hosting it early next year instead.

According to Blizzard’s Saralyn Smith, the executive producer of BlizzCon, “During this time, we’ve had many discussions about what holding a convention could look like in light of all the health and safety considerations we’d want to make. We’ve also talked about different paths we could take, and how each one could be complicated by fluctuations in national and local health guidelines in the months ahead. Ultimately, after considering our options, we’ve come to the very difficult decision to not have BlizzCon this year.”

Granted the event is still many months away, but with health officials predicting that a vaccine for the virus will only be available next year at the earliest, it makes sense that Blizzard would be postponing the event. Other events have also been cancelled in the wake of the pandemic, including E3 2020.

Grand Theft Auto VI Could Be Seeing A 2023 Release

With the amount of success Rockstar had with GTA 5, it makes sense that they would want to eventually follow it up with GTA 6. However, there is the question of when exactly will GTA 6 be released? The good news is that we might now have a possible date to look forward to, and that is in 2023 (which lines up with what we had previously heard).

According to Take-Two’s (Rockstar’s parent company) 10-K SEC filing, it seems that the company is planning on spending $89 million on marketing during a 12-month period ending on 31st March, 2024. That is a lot of money to be spending on market, and it has been noted that this is twice the amount that they have spent compared to other fiscal years

The reason for this, at least that’s according to analyst Jeff Cohen of investment firm Stephens, is because of GTA 6. Without a doubt that when GTA 6 is announced and released, Take-Two will want to be putting the word out as much as possible, and as such, a larger marketing budget might be required.

Of course, this is purely speculation at this point in time, but considering that GTA 5 made the company over a billion dollars, and is still raking in money thanks to GTA Online, we’re not surprised that Take-Two wants to ensure that its successor will be a smashing success as well. However, the 2023 date means that we have at least 3 years to wait, so until then, don’t hold your breath.
