We’re Liveblogging the Apple WWDC 2020 Keynote Right Here

Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference keynote is normally a huge event: Thousands of developers crowd into San Jose’s McEnery Convention Center hours before the keynote, waiting to make a beeline for the auditorium as soon as the doors open. Usually, I’m right there with them. But today, we’re all tuning in from…

Plants Can Absorb Tiny Plastic Pieces Through Their Roots, Study Finds

Nothing seems safe from the grips of plastic these days. Not national parks, not oceans, and, according to new findings, not even plants. The study, published in Nature Nanotechnology on Monday, found that plants can absorb the tiniest bits of plastic through their roots. It shows the wide-ranging ways that plastic…

Thomy Rot-Weiß Is Ketchup and Mayonnaise Packaged Like Toothpaste

Ketchup, mustard, mayo, teriyaki, bbq sauce, sriracha… Let’s face it, I’m a big condiment fan. While I don’t always mix my condiments, some combinations work better than others. Ketchup and mayo generally work well together – especially on a cheeseburger – and actually are pretty good on french fries too. Well, it turns out that you can get a combination of ketchup and mayo in a single package – and I’m not talking about Russian salad dressing.

The experts at German condiment company Thomy make a ketchup-mayonnaise combo called “Rot-Weiß” – which translates to  “Red-White.” But these two condiments aren’t pre-mixed into a single condiment. Instead, they come out of a tube like one of those striped toothpastes. YouTuber Taras Kul tested out some Rot-Weiß, and shared his review on video:

I mean, sure, the two substances eventually will mix together on your plate, and certainly in your stomach, but still, it looks sort of like a liquid candy cane as it oozes out of the tube. If you’re just dying to try some, you can pick up a tub on Amazon for about $10. I dare you to brush your teeth with this stuff.

Drone Caught Trying To Smuggle Drugs From Singapore Over To Malaysia

Drones are great for photography and videography, and since they’re relatively inexpensive, they’re easily accessible to many. However, some have also taken the opportunity to use drones for illegal activity, such is the case where over in Singapore, four suspects were arrested after it was discovered they were trying to smuggle drugs from Singapore across the border to Malaysia.

According to Singapore’s Central Narcotics Bureau, local police detected what they claimed to be “unusual manned aircraft activity” at the Kranji Reservoir Park. They were then sent there for further investigation where they discovered a drone with a bag attached to it hovering in the air, where they later found two of the four suspects operating the drone.

Upon further investigation, they discovered that the bag contained a variety of controlled substances, and after looking through the car belonging to the suspects, they found additional illegal drugs such as Ice, heroin, and Ectasy tablets.

According to the press release from the CNB, “The two men were suspected to have operated the unmanned aircraft from Singapore, to import drugs from Malaysia. The flight data retrieved from one of the suspects’ phone showed that the unmanned aircraft had flown from Kranji to Johor Bahru and back again to Kranji that day.”

This isn’t the first time we’re hearing about drones are being used for illegal activity. In the past, we have seen how drones were used to smuggle drugs and other contraband into prison, and several years ago, there was even an attempted prison escape where a drone was used to help deliver the tools the prisoners needed.

iPad Pro With Mini LED Reportedly Enters Trial Production

We have been hearing for a while now that Apple does plan to eventually make the shift from using LCDs in their iPads to mini LEDs. Earlier rumors suggested that such devices might only arrive in 2021, but according to a report from The Elec, that could happen earlier than we thought.

This is because based on the report, they claim that Apple has reportedly begun the trial production of the iPad Pro with a mini LED display. This is for the 12.9-inch model, but we expect that eventually it should expand to cover the smaller iPad Pro as well, assuming the trial production goes well.

That being said, given the alleged trial production status, it does not necessarily mean that the tablet will be launched this year. The publication claims that it is a possibility that it could arrive in the fourth quarter of 2020, but this would be an “the earliest” estimate, and that it is more likely that it could arrive in 2021.

Apple had updated the iPad Pro earlier this year, but it was a minor refresh where the gains weren’t as big as some would have liked, especially for a tablet that was last updated in 2018. However, hot on the heels of the launch, there were rumors suggesting that Apple was planning a more “high-end” version with a mini LED display. Take it with a grain of salt, but we’ll probably have to wait until much later in the year for the details, especially since Apple is not expected to announce new hardware at WWDC 2020.
