US Customs Seize $4,000 Worth Of Fake AirPods

Fake Apple products aren’t exactly new. Given their high-desirability, it’s not surprising that many counterfeiters are hoping to take advantage of that and profit off unsuspecting customers. Thankfully though, it seems that the US will now have slightly less fake Apple products in the market.

This is thanks to the US Customs and Borders Protection who have recently announced that they have seized about $4,000 worth of fake AirPods. According to the agency, they discovered the fake AirPods when the packaging on them was listed as Lithium Ion Batteries. They then opened it to inspect the packages to ensure that they were what they claimed they were, but they quickly discovered that the packaging and markings on the boxes were not consistent with “the quality of a legitimate product”.

After confirming their suspicions, they turned the fake goods over for destruction. According to Shane Campbell, Area Port Director, Chicago, “Counterfeit goods, like these, damage our economy. When criminals sell these items, it deprives legitimate businesses from thriving.  Unfortunately, many citizens do not realize the harmful effects that counterfeit products have on American businesses and jobs.”

While the number of fake AirPods seized is but a drop in the ocean in terms of the number of fake products floating about the market today, we suppose every little bit helps.

Cyberpunk 2077 Has Been Delayed Again, This Time To November

There is no doubt that many gamers are eagerly anticipating CD Projekt Red’s upcoming game, Cyberpunk 2077. Given how successful the studio was with its The Witcher games, it makes sense that gamers were excited to see a new franchise released by the company. Unfortunately, it looks like gamers will have to wait.

In a tweet by the Cyberpunk 2077 Twitter account, it appears that the game has been delayed to the 19th of November. According to the developers, they cite the game’s mechanics and systems as being the reason, due to it being rather complex. As such, they want to ensure that everything runs as it’s supposed to as opposed to releasing a game full of bugs.

According to CD Projekt co-founder Marcin Iwiński and head of studio Adam Badowski,“Those of you who are familiar with the way we make games know that we won’t ship something which is not ready. ‘Ready when it’s done’ is not just a phrase we say because it sounds right, it’s something we live by even when we know we’ll take the heat for it.”

This is actually not the first time that the game was delayed. Earlier this year, the studio announced that the game would be delayed to the 17th of September, but now it looks like they’ve tacked on an additional two more months. It is admittedly rather disappointing, but we’d much rather have the game delayed than released with issues.

Researchers Use AI To Uncover The Painting Techniques Of Famous Artists

There is a reason why certain artists are so famous, and while there are a ton of great artists out there, some of whom can even replicate the styles of famous master painters, it can never be 100% the same. However, it seems that by using AI, researchers are figuring out how these master painters achieved their famous works of art.

The AI system was developed by MIT CSAIL researchers and they’re calling it “Timecraft”. This system can deduce how a painting was created and what kind of brush strokes the artist might have used to create it. This is done by feeding and training the AI 200 timelapses of digital and watercolor paintings, where based on these videos, the AI learned the various techniques used in painting to come to its conclusions.

While we’re not sure if it could replicate the works of these master painters, the idea is that by studying the techniques, it could allow researchers some insight into the creative process of these artists. For example, based on what the AI uncovered, the researchers found that these painters tend to work in coarse-to-fine manners, painting in a big picture kind of way before filling in the details.

It also found that these artists usually paint within a single section of a scene using one or two colors at a time.

Tesla Launches New Cheaper, More Efficient Solar Panels

Solar panel installations don’t necessarily come cheap, but the idea is that because they’re designed to potentially save you money on your electricity bills, it will eventually help offset the initial costs. For those who are looking to hop on board the solar bandwagon, then Tesla’s solar panels might be of interest to you.

This is because according to a report from Eletrek, it appears that Tesla has recently launched a new range of solar panels where the prices of these solar panels are now 20% cheaper than the previous model, and they are also more efficient where their power output has also been increased by 10%.

When you take into consideration federal discounts and the various incentives that are associated with solar installations, you could end up saving more money. Tesla isn’t new to the solar game as previously, the company had launched its solar roof tiles designed to help homeowners better blend their solar installations with the design of their home.

By lowering the price of these solar panels, it would make Tesla a much more competitive force in the solar panel market. If you are interested in checking out Tesla’s newer and cheaper solar panels, then head on over to its website for the details.

Apple Watch Saves 92-Year Old Farmer After He Falls Off His Ladder

While the Apple Watch’s heart rate detection feature has saved many lives in the past, it seems that the built-in fall detection tool is also performing rather well. According to a report from KETV, it seems that a 92-year old farmer from Grant, Nebraska has his Apple Watch to thank after it saved his life.

The farmer was climbing up the ladder in order to secure a grain bin from pigeons, but unfortunately there was a strong gust of wind which pushed his ladder and caused him to fall 21 feet to the ground. As he was alone, no one could help him save for his Apple Watch whose built-in fall detection feature had already called the Grant Volunteer Fire Department for help.

They managed to reach the farmer and get him to a hospital where he is currently recovering from a broken hip and other fractures as a result of the fall. Like we said, this is not the first time we’re hearing about the Apple Watch’s fall detection has saved lives. Earlier this month, there was a report on how the Apple Watch’s fall detection saved another life when it called 911 on behalf of a man who had fallen unconscious.

Fall detection is a feature that is currently enabled by default for users who are aged 65-years or older, but if you’d like to turn the feature on just to be safe, you can do so by checking out our guide here on how to turn on fall detection for the Apple Watch.

Twitter Will Add Accessibility Support For Its Voice Tweets Feature

A couple of days ago, Twitter announced that they would be rolling out a new feature in the form of audio tweets. Similar to how people send voice messages, audio tweets would basically let people record their voice and upload it as a tweet, giving users more ways to express themselves that the written word might not.

However, it seems that one of the features that Twitter might have forgotten about is accessibility, where they are working under the assumption that all their users have no hearing impairments. As pointed out by one of their users, the lack of closed captions means that those who are hard on hearing might have issues trying to listen to these audio tweets.

The good news is that Twitter has since acknowledged the lack of accessibility and has stated that they are exploring ways to make such tweets more accessible to more users in the future. The company also notes that because this is an early version, not all features are available yet, but that could change in the future.

We’re not sure when accessibility will come to audio tweets, but it might be something to look out for in the future. To Twitter’s credit, audio tweets still appears to be rather limited where for now, it is only available to a limited group of users and only available on iOS.

Disney+ Will No Longer Be Offering Free Trials

With a lot of online services, companies usually offer a trial period so that customers know what they are buying before fully committing, especially if it’s going to be a subscription that is ongoing. However, as far as Disney+ is concerned, Disney seems to be done with offering free trials to customers.

The company had previously been running a promotion in which they offer a free one-week trial to new customers, but in a statement made to CNET, a spokeswoman has confirmed that the free trial has since ended. “The service was set at an attractive price-to-value proposition that we believe delivers a compelling entertainment offering on its own.”

The free trial came to an end this week, although as CNET notes, Disney had actually stopped advertising its free trial in its marketing materials weeks ago, so it seems that the removal of the trial was already in the works and was presumably slowly being phased out. It is a bummer to see the free trial feature removed, especially when competing services like Netflix already offers its new customers a 30-day free trial.

Perhaps Disney is banking on its reputation and its various franchises to be strong enough where customers will be willing to pull the trigger even without trying it first. That being said, Disney+ is priced cheaper than some of the competition out there at $7 a month, and with the ability to cancel anytime, we guess $7 isn’t that hard of a pill to swallow even if you end up not liking what Disney has to offer.
