It is increasingly apparent that the Galaxy Note 20 is Samsung’s “mea culpa” over the Galaxy S20, at least when it comes to its features. While the price will most likely be just as high as the Galaxy S20, thanks to the S Pen, but it might be cutting down on some of the more excessive features of its predecessor. … Continue reading
Facebook is probably one of the last Big Tech companies you’d associate with virtual and augmented reality technologies but it has actually invested a lot of its resources into VR and AR, not even counting its acquisition of VR pioneer Oculus. Of course, Facebook’s ideals for VR are more on the casual and social side and its Facebook Reality Labs … Continue reading

If you enjoy watching Netflix on your Mac computer, there’s a chance that you might have been a bit disappointed in terms of stream quality. This is because despite Netflix offering 4K streams, macOS computers could never quite take full advantage of that, but that is expected to change in Safari in the upcoming macOS Big Sur update.
According to a tweet by Ishan Agarwal, it appears that in the macOS update, Apple will finally be updating Safari to support 4K Netflix streams. Prior to this, Mac users would only be able to stream Netflix at 1080p, so if you own a Mac like the iMac with its 5K display, then you will finally be able to take advantage of the higher resolution.
What’s interesting is that while Apple did update its Mac lineup to support the HEVC codec that would be required to allow 4K streams, they did not update Safari to take advantage of it, at least until now with the Big Sur macOS update. This is good news for Mac users, but at the same time, there is a bit of a catch.
OMG! Netflix on macOS Big Sur’s Safari browser just gave me 4K Stream with Dolby Vision on MacBook Pro! Earlier it was just 1080p with Dolby Vision. This is amazing. 😌 pic.twitter.com/afUQPeKisI

According to Apple, Macs that want to enjoy 4K HDR streams will need to be of the 2018 models or later, which means that even if your Mac is macOS Big Sur compatible but it is older than 2018, then you will not be able to enjoy these changes.

To help stop the spread of the coronavirus, contact tracing comes into play. This is used to help trace the path of the infection to see who the infected person might have come into contact with, which in turn allows authorities to reach out to them to get them tested and also possibly quarantined to reduce the spread as much as possible.
A lot of the contact tracing efforts we’re seeing with the coronavirus is through smartphones and apps, which makes sense given that a lot of us have smartphones today. However, there are some who do not have smartphones, like the elderly who might still be comfortable using feature phones. This is why the Singapore government has announced that for senior citizens who do not own a smartphone, they can opt to use a Bluetooth tracker instead.
These devices can communicate with each other as well as the TraceTogether smartphone app, so that it will still help with the country’s contact tracing efforts even with users who do not own a smartphone. Should a person with the tracker come into contact with someone who might have the virus, they will then be contacted to let them know they should be checked out, and if it is determined that they have the virus, data from the tracker can then be downloaded to help trace who else the user might have come into contact with.
To address potential privacy concerns, these trackers do not have WiFi, GPS, or cellular capabilities, meaning that the government won’t be able to know the wearer’s whereabouts at all times. It will also only hold 25 days worth of data at most.

If you were to take a look at video recordings you made either on your phone or camera from back in the day and play it back on a display with a higher resolution, it might look a bit fuzzy or grainy. This is because back in the day, videos on our phones were captured at a lower resolution.
These days, our phones are capable of shooting at 4K video, but for the most part, they tend to be limited to lower frame rates (this varies from device to device), but with the upcoming iPhone 12, a report from EverythingApplePro claims that the 2020 iPhone will be increasing the frame rates from a max of 60fps to 240fps!
Right now, in case you didn’t know, the iPhone 11 Pro can capture 4K video at 60fps. For the most part this is more than enough for the majority of users out there, but by bumping it up to 240fps, it will turn the iPhone 12 into a videography powerhouse for users who want to use their phones to shoot video.
As to why the higher frame rates would matter to users, it is because the more frames the phone can capture per second, the more details there are. This would give users more flexibility and options when it comes to editing their videos. It would also result in smoother slow-mo videos, which are useful when creating videos as it helps add a bit more variety.

Although Google loves to talk about how it uses the latest AI and machine learning technologies to power its anti-malware systems, Android’s security and its sibling privacy are almost points of ridicule for the mobile platform.
