Google’s Chrome OS platform runs either apps designed for Chrome OS, or in recent years, even Android apps. However, the good news for Chrome OS users is that in the future, you will soon be able to run Windows applications on Chrome OS. This is thanks to a partnership between Google and Parallels.
For those unfamiliar, Parallels is a software known by Mac users for allowing the running of Windows apps on macOS, and now with this new partnership with Google, they are bringing that ability to Chrome OS.
According to Parallels, “Remote work is a new reality, making efficiency, connectivity, speed, reliability, security and undisrupted access essential elements of a successful organization. At this key moment, our two organizations have formed a landmark partnership to equip enterprises with solutions that optimize their businesses and teams to meet the evolving challenges of modern work environments.”
That being said, before Chrome OS users get too excited, it should be noted that this feature will only be available on Chrome OS enterprise devices. Neither Parallels nor Google mentioned whether or not this will eventually become available for non-enterprise users, but given that it will run on enterprise devices, it does open the door to potentially being available for non-enterprise users in the future (fingers crossed!).

We’ve been seeing how AI has been used rather extensively in the medical industry, where AI has been trained to spot certain things that a doctor might have missed. This is because as humans, there are many things that can affect our judgement, like being tired, being stressed, and so on.
This becomes especially more critical during surgery, where certain procedures could run for hours and could leave surgeons tired. However, thanks to the efforts of researchers, it seems that in the future, robots could take over certain more mundane (but still critical) roles in surgery, such as stitching a patient up after an operation.
This collaboration is between Intel and the University of California, Berkeley, where researchers have developed an AI deep learning system dubbed Motion2Vec which teaches a robot how to suture. This is done by feeding the AI publicly available surgery videos where it then tries to break down the movements of surgeons, like where to insert the needle, extraction, and hand-off.
Speaking to Engadget, lead researcher Dr. Ajay Tanwani said, “There’s a lot of appeal in learning from visual observations, compared to traditional interfaces for learning in a static way or learning from [mimicking] trajectories, because of the huge amount of information content available in existing videos.”
So far based on early tests, the robot is capable of performing a suture with 85.5% segmentation accuracy with an average of 0.94cm error in targeting accuracy. It will probably be years before we see robots take over the suturing role in the operating theater, but for now it certainly looks promising.

Google Duo has been around for a while now, but due to the pandemic, they are no doubt seeing an increase in usage where people working and studying from home are making more video calls than ever. The good news for those who use Duo is that if you prefer using the web version of the platform, you’ll be pleased to learn that Google has since increased the number of users in a group call.
According to a tweet by Sanaz Ahari, Google’s senior director of product and design, Google Duo for the web will now support up to 32 per call at once. These changes to Duo will be part of the latest update to Chrome so make sure you have the latest version if you’d like to take advantage of this new feature (be sure to check out our guide on how to manually update Chrome).
Google has been steadily increasing the number of supported users on Duo. Back in March, they announced that Duo will expand the number of users supported per video call from 8 users to 12. Now at 32, it puts Duo on par with the likes of Apple’s FaceTime, although it is still less than Skype’s 50 person, and also Zoom which allows as many as 100 users (500 if used with the Large Meeting addon).

Earlier this month, Google had also made some changes to Duo where they made it easier for users to join Duo calls using a link.

It’s important to close the toilet lid before flushing for sanitation reasons, but doing so isn’t possible in many public facilities located in the United States and many other countries. These public toilets not only often lack a lid, but also flush with a greater velocity than most home toilets, paving the way for potential ‘clouds’ of particles containing viruses … Continue reading
