Oppo Will Start To Aggressively Develop Their Own Processors

Right now, the majority of smartphones still largely rely on Qualcomm for their chipsets. There are a handful of companies that have attempted to make their own chipsets, like Apple, Samsung, and Huawei, just to name a few, and now it looks like Oppo will start aggressively pursuing that strategy as well.

Speaking to reporters, Liu Bo, who is Oppo’s head of China business was quoted as saying, “It’s a step Oppo will have to take.  We have to tackle chip technology and make it a crucial driving force in future developments.” It shouldn’t be too surprising to learn that this is what the company might be interested in doing.

There are several reasons for this, one of which is to reduce reliance and dependence on other companies. Like we said, a good majority of smartphones still rely on Qualcomm which means additional money needs to be paid to Qualcomm to use their components. By developing their own, it means that the money could be put to better use.

Also, it gives companies more control over what their phones can do. As we have seen in Apple’s A-series of chipsets, it allows Apple to dictate what kind of upgrades and features their phones and devices will have, making it a more unique device compared to using that’s something already made.

Of course, whether or not Oppo’s own chipsets will be just as capable as Qualcomm’s, if not better, remains to be seen.

iOS 14’s Call Recording Feature Will Not Be Released To The Public

The other day we reported on what appeared to be a sketchy rumor that suggested that one of the features of iOS 14 is the ability to natively record calls. We said that this was sketchy because call recording has all kinds of legal ramifications, and secondly, for a company like Apple that loves to tout their commitment to privacy, it seemed a bit strange.

For those who might have been a bit concerned about this feature and the various privacy issues that could entail, you’ll be pleased to learn that it might not actually debut publicly. This is according to a report from 9to5Mac who claims that they can confirm that while the feature exists, apparently it was never intended to be made public to users.

Instead, according to their sources, this feature was originally developed to be used internally for debugging purposes. This means that it was only intended for use amongst Apple’s engineers and employees, and was not meant to be a publicly-available feature for Apple’s customers.

Of course, none of this can be confirmed yet, but as the publication points out, iOS does contain several features that are meant to be used internally for testing and debugging, so it’s not surprising to see this feature appear, even if it wasn’t intended to be used outside of Apple to begin with.

Android 11 Beta Is Now Available For Download

This year, Google is expected to release a new major Android update. Given that last year saw Android 10 released, this means that this year will be Android 11. For those who are curious as to what the update could be bringing to the table, you will be pleased to learn that Google has since announced that the Android 11 beta is now available for download.

This means that if you want to take the update for a spin to see what kind of changes and improvements Google has made, you’ll be able to do so. However, for now it should be noted that the beta is only available for Google Pixel 2 devices or newer, so if you own the original Pixel, you won’t be able to get in on the beta action.

Some of the new features Google has announced include changes made to the notification shade, where there will be a new Conversations section where your messages are now sorted into this category and placed at the top. Google will also introduce some changes to app permissions, where apps that have been unused for extended periods of time will have their permissions reset.

Note that these new features are subject to change. Given that this is a beta, in a way Google is looking to seek feedback and also to eliminate bugs that appear along the way, so if you do decide to take part in the beta, that’s something you’ll want to consider and maybe not use the beta as your daily driver.

Razer Kishi Gaming Controller For Android Devices Released

Razer is a company known for creating gaming peripherals and accessories. If you’re an Android gamer, then you might be interested to learn that the company has since announced its latest gaming controller for Android devices in the form of the Razer Kishi. This is an add-on accessory that gives Android gamers access to physical controllers.

Mobile games can be incredibly fun, but onscreen controls are generally frustrating to use and sometimes don’t feel quite as responsive compared to physical controllers. This is where controllers like the Kishi comes in. The device was originally unveiled at CES 2020 in January earlier this year, and now it looks like it will be available for purchase.

The features an 8-way D-pad, a couple of analog triggers, and two bumper buttons on the back. The best part about the Kishi is that unlike other controllers that might rely on Bluetooth, the experience should be relatively lag-free as it connects directly to your smartphone via a USB-C connector.

Of course, not all devices are compatible with the Kishi, but for the most part, major flagship handsets are supported. This includes Samsung’s flagship phones dating back to the Galaxy S8 series and newer, the Google Pixel 2 handsets and newer, and of course, the Razer Phone first-gen and the Razer Phone 2. The Razer Kishi is priced at $80 and is available for purchase, with an iPhone version expected for this summer.
