HTC Will Announce A New Smartphone On June 20

In the early days of the smartphone, HTC was one of the major players around and it was always exciting to see what kind of new products the company had up their sleeves. However, in the recent years, the company has kind of taken a backseat on smartphone development, but it seems that they haven’t completely given up just yet.

In a post on HTC Taiwan’s Instagram, the company has teased that they will be announcing a new smartphone in the coming weeks. To be more specific, HTC Taiwan is teasing a phone announcement for the 20th of June, 2020. Unfortunately, if you were hoping for something high-end, prepare to be disappointed.

This is because according to the teasers shared across HTC’s social media channels, the phone in question is expected to be a new lineup of HTC Desire 20 smartphones, which will most likely end up being a mid-range series based on previous Desire handsets that were released.

That being said, it is also unclear if these new Desire smartphones will find their way to the US market, but we suppose we’ll have to wait, so be sure to check back with us on the 20th of June for more details.

Bose Could Be Working On A ‘Gaming’ Version Of Its QC35 II Headphones

Not all headsets were made equal. You might have noticed that there are some headphones created for sports, where they might be water/sweat-resistant, then you also have headsets designed for gaming, where they might come with certain features catered towards gamers. However, headphones created for specific purposes do sometimes come with compromises.

The good news is that if you’re a fan of the Bose QC35 IIs, then you might be interested to learn that according to an APK teardown by the folks at 9to5Google, they have discovered evidence to suggest that Bose could be working on a “gaming” version of the QC35 II headphones. This was discovered in the Bose Connect app where there are strings in the app that references gaming.

However, what’s interesting is that this won’t be a “new” version of the QC35 II. Instead, the references suggest that Bose could be planning on launching a separate microphone accessory that can attach to the headphones, but here’s where it gets confusing. Diving deeper into the code, they discovered branding that hinted that it would be known as the “Bose QC35 II Gaming Headset”.

We’re not sure how a microphone attachment will make it a “gaming headset” per se, but in any case it does sound interesting and hopefully Bose will have some kind of official announcement that they will be making soon.

Android games downloads are about to get smaller, less convoluted

Although Android apps are naturally optimized for running on mobile devices with more constrained resources than even laptops, their packages traditionally weren’t. Because Android apps often have to account for the myriad of configurations and Android phone hardware, those packages or APKs used to hold and download all of those different configurations and assets, regardless of your specific hardware. Galaxy Z Flip warranty could be voided by a screen protector

Foldable phones are fancy and feel futuristic but they are also fragile, at least as far as that hi-tech screen goes. Samsung, Motorola, and Huawei have taken great pains to ensure their flexible and foldable screens don’t easily get dinged. Owners might be worried to the point that they will still want to apply a screen protector on their foldable … Continue reading

3nm Apple A16 Chipsets Expected To Arrive In 2022

At the moment, Apple’s A13 Bionic chipsets are built on the 7nm fabrication process, but with the upcoming A14, which is expected to debut in this year’s iPhones, it will be upgraded to the 5nm process, but that is expected to drastically change in the next two years because according to DigiTimes, the A16 chipset in 2022 will be built on the 3nm process.

The report claims that TSMC is apparently on track to start producing the A16 chipsets in 2022, and that the chipmaker has already started to construct production lines and various related facilities to help them with that, although given that 2022 is still quite a long time away, we suppose things could change from now until then.

For those who are unfamiliar with the fabrication process and what this means, basically by building chipsets using a smaller fabrication, it helps to cram more transistors into the chip, reducing the amount of travel it takes. For the end-user, this should (in theory) translate to chipsets that are faster and also more energy efficient.

What’s interesting about this rumor is that not only will this affect Apple’s iPhones and iPads, but given that Apple is rumored to make the transition to ARM-based Mac computers, there is no doubt that this will play a crucial role in helping Apple develop more powerful ARM chipsets that could rival x86 chips used by Intel. Take it with a grain of salt for now, but Apple is rumored to announce their new ARM-based chipset for Macs at WWDC 2020, so maybe we’ll get more hints then.

Privacy Flaw Exposed WhatsApp Users’ Phone Numbers In Google Search

While we do give out our phone numbers quite a bit, it’s a different story when we willingly give it out versus having it listed without our knowledge or permission. Unfortunately for WhatsApp users, it seems that due to a privacy flaw, it accidentally exposed users’ phone numbers in Google search listings.

This was initially discovered by WABetaInfo earlier this year and recently came to light again after security researcher Athul Jayaram shared it on his website. According to Jayaram, this issue came about because WhatsApp did not ask Google to ignore indexing certain links which contained phone numbers.

Jayaram claims that Google provides tools to web administrators that allows them to let search engines, such as Google, know that they should ignore indexing certain links, and as a result, phone numbers of users were accidentally listed. Thankfully, WhatsApp claims to have already fixed the issue, although it seems that Jayaram will not be getting a bounty for his efforts.

According to a statement made to TechCrunch, a WhatsApp spokesperson said, “While we appreciate this researcher’s report and value the time that he took to share it with us, it did not qualify for a bounty since it merely contained a search engine index of URLs that WhatsApp users chose to make public. All WhatsApp users, including businesses, can block unwanted messages with the tap of a button.”
