Google Will Add Fact-Checking Labels To Google Images

Images can be easily manipulated. For example, it can be edited in a way to add or remove information. It can also be used in articles that are misleading. As such, it is not necessarily a bad idea to be a bit skeptical and wary when you see images online and not take it as the truth, but now Google wants to make your life a bit easier.

The company has announced that they will start adding fact-checking labels to Google Images. What this means is that if you were to search for images using Google, you might come across an image that has a label attached to it in which the veracity of the image has been questioned. Clicking on the image will provide additional information along with a link to a fact-checking website in which the claims made in the image are debunked.

According to Google, “Photos and videos are an incredible way to help people understand what’s going on in the world. But the power of visual media has its pitfalls—especially when there are questions surrounding the origin, authenticity or context of an image.” Google claims that they will be using fact-checking platforms that meets the company’s criteria.

This is not Google’s first attempt at trying to fact-check its services. Several years ago, the company introduced fact-checking labels on its search pages which tries to debunk fake news and misinformation.

Olympus Will Be Selling Off Its Consumer Camera Business

Many, many years ago, when cameras were either a compact camera or a DSLR, Olympus came onto the scene and helped to popularize the Micro Four Thirds system. This removed the mirror box from the camera’s design, which led to the mirrorless design, resulting in many of the popular cameras we know and use today.

Now it looks like the company is done with cameras as they have announced that they will be selling off its consumer camera business. This business will be sold to Japan Industrial Partners, who for those unfamiliar, is the same company that bought up Sony’s VAIO computer business back in 2014.

According to Olympus, they have been struggling in the market for a while now, despite them making all kinds of changes and improvements to their cost structure, and also tried to focus on higher-profit cameras and lenses, but it seems like it wasn’t enough. JIP is expected to streamline the business and will continue selling existing models while developing new ones, but we’re not sure what these new cameras will be called.

Olympus’ CEO had actually let slip last year that there could be plans to sell off the company’s camera business, but the company backtracked on that, although their latest announcement seems to have rendered their previous statements invalid. In any case, if you are a fan of Olympus’ cameras, it looks like things will be very different moving forwards.

iPhone 12 Could Ship With A 20W Power Adapter

Apple’s iPhones support fast charging, but this isn’t something that Apple bundled with its smartphones. Instead, customers are expected to purchase/use a separate power adapter of the MacBook Pro, along with a USB-C to Lightning cable. This will add up in costs, but that’s the price users will need to pay to take advantage of faster charging speeds.

However, the good news is that with the iPhone 12, Apple could be bundling a more powerful power adapter. This is according to a tweet by Mr White who claims that the iPhone 12 might come with a 20W power adapter. To give you some context, the iPhone 11 comes with a 5W power adapter, while the higher-end iPhone 11 Pro comes with an 18W power adapter.

Assuming that Apple sticks to the same naming scheme as they have, we’re not sure if this tweet means that the entire iPhone 12 lineup will be getting this 20W power adapter, or if only the higher-end models will get it, but hopefully it is the former as fast charging is something that Android phones have had for a while now, so it would be a shame if Apple were to shortchange its customers.

The inclusion of a more powerful power adapter also makes sense when you consider the rumors that the iPhone 12 will support 5G. As 5G is expected to be more power hungry, having the ability to quickly juice up your phone should help make up for the loss in battery life.

China’s Beidou GPS rival is now complete

The shutdown of Chinese facilities earlier this year due to COVID-19 showed just how much the world’s products and businesses are dependent on them, perhaps much to the chagrin of the US. That said, the drama surrounding US export bans against Huawei also revealed some of China’s own dependence on US and international technologies. One of the lesser-known dependencies is … Continue reading
