This Air Filter Can Catch And Kill The Coronavirus

The reason why many governments and health officials around the world are recommending people to wear masks is because of how the coronavirus spreads. Research has shown that by wearing a mask, it does reduce the chance of the virus spreading, but recently, scientists have found growing evidence to suggest that the coronavirus could be transmitted through the air as well.

This means that perhaps we might need a new approach when it comes to dealing with the virus, although thanks to the efforts of researchers at the University of Houston, they might have found a solution. This comes in the form of an air filter that is apparently capable of not only trapping/catching coronavirus particles in the air, but it will be able to kill it as well.

This air filter is made using commercially available nickel foam that has been heated to 200 degrees Centigrade and based on their tests, it was capable of killing 99.8% of the virus in a single pass. The virus is said to be unable to survive temperatures greater than 70C, but by raising it to 200C, it managed to kill the virus instantly.

Given that nickel foam is readily available, it means that it is possible for manufacturers to start making air filters using this material. It also means that it can be integrated into buildings like offices and shopping malls where larger crowds of people might gather. Of course this doesn’t mean that social distancing or wearing masks will no longer be needed, but it should help to make things a bit safer.

iPhone 12 Will Support Both 5G Technologies

It is widely expected that the iPhone 12 launching this year will support 5G connectivity. However, at this point in time, there are two different types of 5G tech used by carriers – mmWave and sub-6GHz, so the question is, which of these technologies will be used by the iPhone 12?

According to a report from DigiTimes, apparently Apple’s iPhone 12 will be supporting both technologies. However, the report goes on to state that this will be Apple’s strategy for 2020, but it is expected to change in 2021. Apparently for the company’s 2021 iPhones, Apple could stick to a single 5G band support, meaning that it will be either mmWave or sub-6GHz.

Interestingly enough, this is what we had heard about earlier this year, where the iPhone 12 could launch with either support for mmWave or sub-6GHz depending on the market the iPhone is launched in.

For those unfamiliar with mmWave or sub-6GHz, these are both 5G technologies but will differ from each other. Carriers that utilize mmWave technology will offer faster speeds, although the downside is that the range/coverage will be shorter and is designed to be used in more dense urban areas.

Sub-6GHz on the other hand will offer wider coverage but will be slower than mmWave, but still faster than LTE.

Canon’s EOS 5D Lineup Could Be Discontinued

Canon 5D MK II

When it comes to higher-end DSLRs, Canon’s EOS 5D series is probably one that many professionals are familiar with. In fact, the camera has actually been used in the past to shoot some television series episodes. However, it seems that the EOS 5D could be coming to an end.

According to a report from Canon Rumors, they have heard from a source that Canon will be discontinuing the lineup. Canon was said to be developing the successor to the EOS 5D Mark IV with the Mark V model, with a plan to release the camera by the end of 2020. However, the report claims that development on the Mark V was stopped a while ago, and that Canon may have scrapped their plans for the Mark V entirely and will not be releasing a successor to the Mark IV.

It seems like quite a major and somewhat controversial move, but Canon Rumors’ source notes that Canon is aware that the EOS 5D series is popular amongst photographers and that the company could be working on something to appease these users. Exactly what that will be remains to be seen.

Assuming this report is accurate, what this means is that as far as Canon’s professional DSLR lineup is concerned, it looks like only the EOS 1D and EOS 6D series will be left.
