First Apple Silicon MacBook Pro And MacBook Air Expected By End Of 2020

Earlier this year, Apple announced a refresh to the 13-inch MacBook Pro. It came with updated processors and the new scissor switch Magic Keyboard. However, it seems that Apple could be getting ready to update the 13-inch MacBook Pro again, but this time, it will come with Apple’s custom silicon instead.

This is according to a report from DigiTimes who claims that Apple will be shipping their first Apple silicon laptops by the end of the year, or to be more specific, in the third quarter of 2020. These laptops are expected to come in the form of a 13-inch MacBook and the 13-inch MacBook Air. This is also interesting because it was earlier this year that Apple also updated its MacBook Air lineup with new processors and the new Magic Keyboard.

We’re not sure if the launch of the Apple silicon 13-inch MacBook Pro and Air models means that Apple will no longer launch Intel versions. When the company confirmed their transition away from Intel, they did state that they will continue to produce Intel-based computers, so it is possible that both versions will still be made and will cater to users with different needs.

Also, it was recently suggested by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo that it is possible that the Apple silicon based laptops could end up being cheaper as it means that Apple would no longer need to pay Intel for their components.

Amazon Launches Livestreaming Platform For Businesses

Twitch is mostly known for being a livestreaming platform aimed at gamers, although in recent years it has expanded to cover non-gaming activities. Now it looks like Amazon wants to expand Twitch’s streaming technology to cover not just gaming, but also businesses as well in the form of a new platform called Amazon Interactive Video Service.

If this sounds familiar, it is because earlier this year, it was rumored that Amazon was looking to perhaps allow businesses to host livestreams on Twitch. The report was semi-accurate because while Amazon won’t be using Twitch to host businesses, they will be using Twitch’s streaming technology to help power this new platform.

According to Amazon, “Amazon IVS removes the cost and complexity associated with setting up live, interactive video streams, allowing customers to focus on building engaging experiences for their viewers. Amazon IVS is a fully managed service that makes high-quality, live-streaming video available to viewers around the world with latency that can be less than three seconds (as opposed to 20-30 seconds), so customers no longer need to make a tradeoff between interactivity and quality of service.”

Amazon is also hoping to set their service apart from other platforms that offer streaming, such as Facebook and YouTube. This will be accomplished by allowing businesses to customize their streams, like showing additional information when a product appears on screen, adding a buy button for specific products, and so on.

Xbox Series X Will Focus Less On Console Exclusives

Whenever a new console generation is launched, there is a bit of an awkward phase in which gamers who owned the previous-gen console will have to decide if giving up their current library of games is worth it. To encourage gamers to make the switch, console makers have created console-exclusive titles to attract gamers to their newer machines.

However, that will not be a strategy that Microsoft will be focusing on for its Xbox Series X consoles. In an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Xbox boss Phil Spencer states that the company’s strategy for its new console will be to focus more on accommodating the player, rather than focusing too much on the hardware.

According to Spencer, “We should applaud load times and fidelity of scenes and framerate and input latency, and all of these things that we’ve focused on with the next generation. But that should not exclude people from being able to play. That’s our point. How do we create an ecosystem where if you want to play an Xbox game, we’re going to give you a way to go play it?”

This seems to be a slight dig at Sony who had previously stated that PS5 games will not be backwards compatible with the PS4. This means that gamers who want to play newer PS5 games will need to buy the console in order to play them. While we can appreciate Microsoft’s approach, we have to wonder how they will fare.
