iPhone 12 Pro might not get that 120Hz display after all

Apple is slowly blurring the lines that separate its devices and platforms. This year’s iPhones, for example, may even look like miniature iPad Pros. That doesn’t mean it will get the same features, of course, but there’s still some discussion on what features the iPhone 12 may inherit from Apple’s slates. As with the LIDAR camera, there is still no … Continue reading

At least nothing yet as far as big sweeping design and behavioral changes are concerned. The latest preview build for Insiders shows off a slightly refreshed Start Menu but … Continue reading

Apple reportedly rushing suppliers to prevent iPhone 12 delays

There has been no shortage of rumors that this year’s iPhones could be delayed by a few months. Some even paint a worst-case scenario of an early 2021 shipping date. Apple, of course, would have none of that and is reportedly pushing its supply chain partners to make up for lost time. Whether that will be enough to narrow the … Continue reading

Apple Watch’s ECG Saves A Doctor From Critical Heart Disease

Over the years ever since the Apple Watch was introduced, we’ve been hearing various stories of how the device has saved the lives of many of its users by alerting them to potential heart issues. This allowed the wearer to seek out medical treatment early, which as a result potentially saved many lives in the process.

Now it looks like the Apple Watch has saved yet another life, this time in the form of a Dr. Donald W Milne who shared a story of how his Apple Watch’s ECG feature helped him realize that something was wrong with his heart.

According to Milne who shared the story with 9to5Mac, “I was working out on an elliptical machine,  And I experienced more shortness of breath than usual for a workout.  I used the ECG function to take an ECG at that time. I observed ST segment depression on the tracing. That resolved and returned to normal with rest. This was again documented by the tracings. I had no history of any heart disease prior to this incident.”

He then visited a cardiologist at a hospital where he was given an angiogram where it was discovered that he had a critical coronary artery disease. While Milne isn’t exactly out of the woods yet and is scheduled to undergo surgery, he believes that by being alerted early on to this problem has allowed him to avoid a potentially fatal heart attack.

Apple’s First Retina MacBook Pro Is Now Officially Obsolete

We’re not sure how many of you remember, but it has been about 8 years since Apple first introduced the Retina MacBook Pro. For those who do remember and for those who are actually still using it today, you might want to take note that the laptop has now been listed as officially obsolete.

So what does this mean for owners of the laptop? This means that in terms of getting service for fixing the laptop, Apple has essentially washed their hands off it. If you are still using the laptop and need to get it fixed for whatever reason, Apple will not be able to help you and you might need to seek a third-party repair service.

However, therein lies another problem. One of the issues with the original Retina MacBook Pro is that a lot of the components were difficult to obtain and due to the manufacturing process, things like the RAM of the laptop were soldered into place. This made removing it almost impossible. Storage was also non-upgradeable meaning that you had to be 100% sure of what you wanted.

Apple’s laptops have come a long way since then, but it looks like things will be changing again soon as the company did confirm that they will be moving away from using Intel’s processors to a custom ARM-based one over the course of the next two years.

More Confirmation That The iPhone 12 Will Not Ship With Accessories

When you buy a smartphone, you can reasonably expect that it will come with a pair of earphones and also a charger. These are the basic accessories that are typically bundled with the majority of smartphones, but Apple is expected to turn things on their head by doing away with them completely.

This is according to a tweet by leakster @L0vetodream which confirms that the iPhone 12 will not ship with a pair of EarPods or a charger. Instead, the leakster claims that the iPhone 12 will feature a new packaging box that will be thinner and more “exquisite”, whatever that is supposed to mean.

This comes on the heels of several other reports that also allege the same thing, and as the saying goes, when there’s smoke, there’s usually fire. This should still be taken with a grain of salt for now, but there are several reasons why Apple could be doing this.

Environmental reasons could be one of them as Apple loves touting how environmentally-conscious they are. It could also be due to cost-cutting measures where the use of 5G in the iPhone 12 could increase the price of the iPhones, so by taking out accessories, it could help Apple keep their costs down to prevent a price hike in the iPhone. We imagine that there will be some who will be upset at these changes, but we’ll definitely need to wait and see if these rumors pan out.

Chrome OS might soon run Steam games too

It is increasingly becoming evident that Google is grooming Chrome OS to be something like a dumping ground for anything and everything it can cram into what was originally a glorified Chrome web browser. From that modest beginning, Chromebooks have grown up to support not just Android and Linux apps but also triple-A gaming via Stadia. It seems that Google … Continue reading
