Crappy Email Security Could Be the Next Big Threat to American Elections: Report

Given the embarrassing catastrophe that was the 2016 presidential election, staving off cyberattacks and foreign influence campaigns is a top priority for election officials nationwide as we get closer to November. Apparently, though, no one thought to apply that same level of scrutiny to their emails. Who’d have…

Surface Duo teasers from Microsoft execs suggest it’s almost here

Perhaps rumors of its delay were slightly exaggerated. Or perhaps Microsoft is just trying to drum up hype considering Samsung’s big event in two weeks. Either way, it definitely doesn’t sound like a coincidence that three of Microsoft’s top brass teased the Surface Duo in the span of a few days, just as the device has reportedly passed some certification … Continue reading

Samsung was expected to launch its new wearables ahead of its Unpacked event next month but neither the Galaxy Watch 3 nor the Galaxy Buds Live, a.k.a. “Bean”, have shown up just yet. Of course, there are still a few days left for that to happen and it does seem that Samsung is already dropping the missing pieces in place … Continue reading

Audi Tests Electric Car With Bi-Directional Charging

One of the reasons for creating electric cars is to help reduce the negative impact of mining for fossil fuels that power more traditional cars. Combine that with solar panels that can generate energy to charge our electric cars and it seems like a winning scenario, but now Audi wants to take things one step further with bi-directional charging.

What this means is that potential electric cars made by Audi in the future will have the ability to act as a secondary power source of sorts. For example, if you have a home equipped with solar panels, excess energy generated by this panels can then be stored inside of the car’s battery pack which can then be used later to power your home or to use it as a generator in the event that the power goes out.

It could also be used as an extension of the energy grid by absorbing excess energy during non-peak periods of usage, and then release it back to the grid during peak periods of usage. In simpler terms, it is kind of like reverse charging on smartphones, where your phone’s batteries can be used to help charge smaller items like wireless earbuds or even another smartphone instead of pulling extra energy from the grid.

That being said, Audi is only testing out the technology which means that we are not sure if or when such a system would be implemented for real. However, it is an intriguing idea and a rather smart one that we wouldn’t mind seeing more of in the future.

Instagram Caught Always Accessing The Camera On iOS 14

There have been many who have theorized and come up with conspiracy theories that suggests that social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram are spying on us and listening to our conversations. How else would they have the ability to display ads for products and services we only just talked about?

While companies have long denied these practices, it’s hard to dispel that notion after users have started to notice that following the installation of the iOS 14 beta on their devices, they noticed that Instagram is always accessing the user’s camera even while they are using the app, even if they’re not taking a photo and are just browsing their feed.

Instagram has since come forward and claimed that this is a bug and that they will be fixing it in an upcoming update. “We only access your camera when you tell us to — for example, when you swipe from Feed to Camera. We found and are fixing a bug in iOS 14 Beta that mistakenly indicates that some people are using the camera when they aren’t. We do not access your camera in those instances, and no content is recorded.”

iOS 14 has brought about some major improvements to privacy where the platform will alert users whenever certain aspects of their devices are accessed, like their clipboard, microphone, and cameras, for example. More than 50 popular apps were also recently discovered to have been quietly accessing the user’s clipboard without their knowledge.

Hideo Kojima’s Next Game Will Be Hella Scary

While game designer Hideo Kojima was still working with Konami, he was developing a new Silent Hill title and even released a playing prototype called PT which quickly gained a cult following due to how creepy and scary it was. Now it seems that Kojima could be working on a new horror game that could be potentially even more scary.

This is because there is a chance that he could be working with famed Japanese horror mangaka artist Junji Ito on the game. While the details have yet to be announced, Ito himself had confirmed that he has been having conversations with Kojima, and that he was invited to work it with him.

According to Ito, “I do know director Kojima and we have been in conversation that he may have a horror-based game that he may be doing, and so he has invited me to work on that, but there are no details on it yet.” It was also revealed that during the development of Silent Hill, Kojima back then had wanted Ito to work as a concept artist, but given that the game was ultimately shelved, that obviously did not come to pass.

Kojima has since released Death Stranding as the first title under his Kojima Productions company. It is unclear what new games he could be working on, but if you’re a horror fan, then this upcoming title, whatever it is, with Ito could be worth keeping an eye out for.
