A couple of years ago, Apple announced the AirPower wireless charging mat. One the main differences between the AirPower and other charging mats is that users can place their devices anywhere on the pad and it will charge, versus current charging mats where users need to place their devices on specific spots.
However, the project was later cancelled, but shortly after, there were rumors suggesting that Apple had not given up on it entirely. Now according to a tweet by leakster @LeaksApplePro, they are alleging that Apple will be bringing back their “one more thing” during the iPhone 12 keynote where they could announce the return of the AirPower charging mat.
Apple’s iPhone 12 event is rumored to be taking place in the second week of October and the return of the AirPower could be rather interesting. This comes on the heels of rumors that suggests that Apple could be working on a portless iPhone, so obviously a new charging solution, like wireless charging, is necessary.
“We do have, one more thing. Do you remember when we first presented our wireless charger…”

It was previously suggested that Apple could drop Lightning in favor of USB-C, especially since they did that with the iPad Pro, but we have been hearing that Apple could skip that entirely and go straight to a portless design. Take this with a grain of salt, but do check back with us in October for the details.

There is a lot of excitement, anticipation, and understandably some skepticism surrounding Apple’s plans to transition away from Intel in favor of using their own custom ARM-based chipsets. We’ve all seen the benchmarks and while they are promising, it’s hard to beat real world tests and day-to-day usage to get a better idea of what to expect.
Apple did state that they plan on launching their first ARM-based Macs by the end of the year, and the good news is that we might be able to learn more about these computers in October. This is according to a tweet by @LeakApplePro who suggests that Apple could actually unveil these computers during the iPhone 12 keynote event in October.
The leak claims that Apple will unveil at least two ARM-based Macs, but at this point in time, we’re not sure which of Apple’s Mac lineups these computers will cover. There have been talks about Apple redesigning the iMac and launching a possible 24-inch model that could replace the 21-inch version, so there’s that.
Shitty upgrade to Watch.
Same iPhones with better camera, Ram and A14.
Not much change to iPad.
At least 2 ARM macs.
OMT AirPower.
Phil Schiller is fitter and gets into the keynote.
Timothy talks about CoVid.
(Will confirm all this tomorrow but for the moment is what I know.)— Leaks (@LeaksApplePro) August 17, 2020
Apple could also potentially revive the 12-inch MacBook with its new ARM-based chipsets, or maybe we’ll see a new MacBook Air powered by these custom processors. In any case, hopefully we’ll have more details soon, but until then, take this with a grain of salt.

Netflix Wants To Play Roulette With Viewers With A New ‘Shuffle Play’ Feature
Posted in: Today's ChiliThere are a ton of shows on Netflix and we’re sure that sometimes it can feel a bit overwhelming as to what shows you want to watch. It looks like Netflix wants to help with that because according to a tweet by Turner Levison, it has been discovered that the company is testing out a new feature.
This comes in the form of a button called “Shuffle Play”, which we imagine is probably pretty obvious what it does. It will allow users to get Netflix to play random TV shows or movies that it thinks that you like, so if you’ve run out of things to watch, this could be a fun feature that will help you discover new shows that you might have otherwise missed.
Some are questioning the decision behind the feature since Netflix is an on-demand streaming service, but like we said, it can be useful in discovering new content. It will also help Netflix keep subscribers around who might have otherwise gotten a bit bored of what the service currently has to offer.
Interesting new feature @netflix … but what kind of insane person just says, “yolo, let’s spin the Netflix wheel of fortune” pic.twitter.com/6WDJrmd7pG
— Turner Levison (@TurnerLevison) August 18, 2020
We’ve seen how streaming services like Spotify has similar features where they can playlists of songs that it generates based on mood or genre. I personally have discovered songs and artists that I enjoy and would not have discovered on my own, so while it might seem a bit of a random feature, it could be worth checking out. The feature is currently a test so not all users might see it.

Unlike Google, Apple has a pretty good relationship with China, and not surprisingly so as Apple considers China to be one of their biggest markets. However, due to the ongoing trade war between the US and China, it seems that those relationships could be put to the test as it now has been reported that there is a chance that the App Store could end up getting banned.
This is according to a report from The Information (paywall) who notes that over in China, it is a requirement that app stores need to be majority-owned by a Chinese company, but yet Apple has managed to get around that for years. However, with reports that China-owned apps like TikTok and WeChat getting banned, the report suggests that China might retaliate by enforcing those rules.
It goes on to claim that Apple had in the past considered setting up a Chinese arm to help them deal with these issues, but have yet to proceed, although now it seems that they will probably need to take a look at it seriously.
Apple now has a fine line that they need to toe, in which they have to decide if they want to give Chinese regulators more control over what kind of apps gets published in the Chinese app store, or risk losing out on the market entirely. It is unclear how this will play out, but a recent report has estimated that should a ban on WeChat go through, Apple could lose billions from Chinese customers opting to buy a non-iPhone handset and also cancelling whatever subscriptions they have to Apple’s services.

At one point in time, BlackBerry was the darling of mobile phones and almost everyone had a BlackBerry. This is thanks to its unique hardware keyboard along with exclusive services like BBM. If you were a fan of BlackBerry, you might be interested to learn that the company is planning on making a comeback in 2021.
This is thanks to BlackBerry coming to an agreement with a company called OnwardMobility who have announced plans to launch a new BlackBerry smartphone in the first half of 2021 where it will come equipped with its signature physical QWERTY keyboard along with support for 5G connectivity.
Not much is known about the device(s) that will be launched in 2021, but it will be interesting to see how the company will fare. While BlackBerry themselves have stopped making phones for a while, the company did partner up with TCL who produced several BlackBerry branded handsets.
However, that partnership came to an end earlier this year when TCL announced that they will no longer be making or selling BlackBerry smartphones from the 31st of August, 2020. It seemed at that point in time like BlackBerry branded smartphones would be no more, so it’s surprising to see that another company will be picking off where TCL stopped.

In the past few months, we’ve seen how various camera makes such as Fujifilm, Canon, and Olympus release software for computers that easily turns their cameras into webcams without the need for third-party software or capture cards. Sony was missing from that list, but not anymore.
Sony has since released the Imaging Edge Webcam software that will turn compatible Sony cameras into webcams quickly and easily. All you need to do is download the software from Sony’s website, connect it to your computers, and you’re good to go! For now, the software only supports Windows 10, and we’re not sure if there are plans to eventually support macOS as well, but we wouldn’t be surprised if the version of macOS were to arrive later.
One of the upsides to Sony’s software compared to the competition is that it appears to support a wider range of cameras, whereas some of the other software seem to only support higher-end flagship models. Sony’s Imaging Edge Webcam software will support the company’s E-mount and A-mount cameras, along with various compact cameras, so head on over to Sony’s website to check whether or not your device is compatible with its software.
In the meantime, you can also check out our guide here on how to use your camera as a webcam if your camera maker hasn’t released similar software yet.
