Instagram Kept Your Deleted Photos And Messages Longer Than You’d Like

When you delete something, it’s almost always not necessarily a guarantee that it is deleted for good. This is the same for hard drives and also online services, where companies can take a while to actually fully delete your deleted photos or messages from their services, but how long is too long?

Instagram claimed that it will take up to 90 days to fully scrub your content from their servers, but according to security research Saugat Pokharel, that wasn’t the case. According to the researcher, he discovered that his supposed deleted messages and photos from Instagram were actually kept for longer than a year.

This was after he had used Instagram’s tool to download data off his account and found that despite having deleted them more than a year ago, they were still available for download. Apparently this was a bug, which Pokharel submitted to Instagram where he was then awarded $6,000 for discovering it.

In a statement made to TechCrunch, a company spokesperson was quoted as saying, “The researcher reported an issue where someone’s deleted Instagram images and messages would be included in a copy of their information if they used our Download Your Information tool on Instagram. We’ve fixed the issue and have seen no evidence of abuse. We thank the researcher for reporting this issue to us.”

Following Its Removal, Fortnite Players Are Now Stuck In A Bind

As many of you would have undoubtedly heard by now, Fortnite has been removed from both the iOS App Store and the Google Play Store. Now, the removal from the Play Store isn’t that big of a deal as players can still download the game directly from Epic, so what does this removal mean for iOS gamers?

Turns out that it could present a problem in the future. According to Epic, they claim that those who had already downloaded the game and updated it to the latest version can go ahead and keep playing it like normal, but moving forwards, things could get tricky as they will not be able to access new content.

According to Epic, “If you already downloaded Fortnite via the App Store, you should have no issues continuing to play Chapter 2 – Season 3’s 13.40 update — whether you’re only playing on mobile devices or also playing the latest version of Fortnite on other devices. Once Chapter 2 – Season 4 begins, players accessing Fortnite will still be able to play the 13.40 version of Fortnite, but will not be able to access any new content or the new Battle Pass.”

For gamers who had already spent money purchasing V-Bucks, Epic is also saying that is entirely out of their hands if gamers want a refund. Instead, they are asking players to contact Apple if they’d like a refund. We’re not sure if this situation will be eventually resolved, but for now, Fortnite players on iOS should probably look for an alternative platform, although that won’t be a problem, especially as things like progression and purchases are all synced.

Google Pixel 5 Might Only Come In An XL Variant

pixel 4For the past few years, without fail, Google releases a new Pixel phone that comes in two sizes. One is the base size and the other is an “XL” version. However, it seems that this year could be different as Google might only release the XL version of the upcoming Pixel 5 handset that will be announced this fall.

This is according to a tweet by @ImjustSayingJC who claims that Google will only release an XL version of the Pixel 5, and that it will cost $699. Google had previously announced the Pixel 4a which is a mid-ranger handset. The company later confirmed their plans for the Pixel 4a 5G and the Pixel 5.

We’re not sure if Google mentioned the Pixel 5 as in the Pixel 5 lineup, or the Pixel 5 base model, so it is a bit unclear at this point. Also, the tweet claims that the Pixel 5 will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 765G chipset, which means that Google might not necessarily release a high-end flagship handset this year.

Either way, take it with a grain of salt for now, but Google should have an announcement in the coming months, so check back with us then for more details.
