Paid Twitter Subscribers Could Have Access To Special Features

The other day, Twitter’s CEO Jack Dorsey confirmed that the company was looking into possibly creating a subscription model for the social media platform. This comes on the heels of reports that ad revenue is down, and so Twitter is looking at other means of generating revenue, and subscriptions are one of them.

However, the question is why would anyone want to pay for a Twitter subscription? Turns out that Twitter has some ideas on how to sell this model to customers, and it comes in the form of special features that only paid subscribers would have access to. According to a tweet by reporter Andrew Roth, this includes features such as the ability to unsend tweets within 30 seconds of it being posted.

It also includes being able to post longer video content where users will be able to upload videos that are 5x the length of current videos. There will also be features that are catered towards businesses, like being able to open positions and make recruitments, and also give users within your organization access to the account by assigning them roles without having to give them access to the account’s username and passwords.

There will also be features such as more custom colors for your Twitter theme and also special badges that show the organization that the person works for, as well as auto responses. Take note that not all of these features may make the cut, this is part of a survey that Twitter has sent out to users asking them for what they’d like to see.

Also, the paid subscription model has yet to be confirmed. Dorsey had only said that they are looking into it but it is unclear yet if the company will actually go ahead with its implementation.

NVIDIA Inches Closer To A Semiconductor Deal Of A Lifetime

While NVIDIA does make their own Tegra chipsets, the company hasn’t been quite as active on that front compared to others like Apple, Samsung, or Qualcomm. However, according to a report from Bloomberg, NVIDIA is apparently in advanced talks to potentially buy Arm Holdings from Softbank.

It was reported earlier in July that Softbank was toying with the idea of maybe selling off Arm Holdings and that NVIDIA was one of the companies that had put forward a bid. While we imagine that many companies might be interested in acquiring the company, the report claims that NVIDIA could be the closest to landing a deal as they are apparently the only company in the advanced stages of negotiation.

Some have questioned whether or not Arm Holdings would be a right fit for NVIDIA, but like it or not and if this report is true, NVIDIA could be staging a comeback in the semiconductor business in a big way. This acquisition, if it goes through, would also make it the largest deal to date where it has been estimated that Arm Holdings’ IPO could be worth as much as $44 billion.

Some have floated the idea of Apple acquiring Arm Holdings, especially with the company planning on making their own custom chipsets for their Mac computers, but it seems that Apple was apparently not interested as it did not fit into their business structure, plus there would also be a lot of scrutiny if a company the size of Apple were to acquire Arm Holdings.

Watch Official Music Videos In Facebook Watch

Back in the day if you wanted to watch an official music video by your favorite singer or band, you would have to rely on TV channels like MTV. These days, a lot of musicians post their videos directly to YouTube where users can seek it out and watch it on demand. Now it looks like musicians will have a new avenue and it comes in the form of Facebook Watch.

According to Facebook, “Today, we’re adding a new way for people to come together around music by bringing official music videos to Facebook in the US. Starting this weekend, you’ll be able to discover, watch and share music videos from today’s top artists to up-and-coming bands and classics across various music genres on Facebook.”

If you head on over to Facebook Watch, you will notice a new Music section where you’ll be able to discover artists based on genre or mood. According to Facebook, they actually started building on this back in 2019 with partners in India and Thailand to lay the foundation. It was also previously reported that Facebook was negotiating with various record labels to get the rights to stream music through its platform.

As to why you would choose Facebook Watch over YouTube, we suppose it boils down to personal preference, but with Facebook, you will be able to tag your friends more easily and share your reactions to videos.

It’s A Bit Early, But Google Seems To Have Confirmed The Pixel 5a Already

Next week Google is expected to announce a new smartphone in the form of the Google Pixel 4a. This will be the successor to last year’s Pixel 3a and will be a mid-range phone for those who don’t want to shell out too much money for the flagship Pixel 5. However, it seems that Google could already be getting ready for next year’s model.

According to a report from 9to5Google, they have discovered that within the Android Open Source Project, there is a reference to a Google Pixel 5a smartphone. Presumably this will be the successor to the Pixel 4a and will most likely be launching in 2021, assuming that Google keeps making its “A” series Pixel smartphones.

Details are obviously unclear given how early this is, but if it is anything like the Pixel 3a and Pixel 4a, it will be another mid-range handset. It will also most likely be packing 5G as we expect that 5G will become more mainstream and become a standard feature of smartphones in the years to come.

So far, companies like Apple have seen and enjoyed tremendous success with their more budget-friendly handsets like the iPhone XR, iPhone 11, and more recently, the iPhone SE which has allowed Apple to perform quite well in China, beating out Huawei in terms of growth for the second quarter of 2020.

Apple Is Now The Most Valuable Company In The World

While Apple might not necessarily command a particularly huge share of the PC market, it seems that the company’s other products and services are doing pretty well because according to the latest share count submitted by Apple in a regulatory filing, it appears that the Cupertino company is now the most valuable company in the world.

With Apple’s shares closing at $425.18 at the end of trading on Friday, it has given Apple a market cap of $1.82 trillion. This is based on share price and the number of outstanding shares, which has allowed the company to surpass Saudi Aramco who held the title previously and closed at $1.76 trillion.

Of course, given that share prices go up and down depending on what the company does and how much faith investors have in the company, this could change soon, but at least for now, Apple is holding onto the crown of being the world’s most valuable company. Apple is expected to launch new iPhones later this year with 5G and it is expected to be a huge deal for them.

They will also be releasing new Mac computers that will be powered by their own custom silicon chipsets, so depending on how well-received those are, it could also have an impact on Apple’s share prices and overall value.

Netflix For Android Now Supports Playback Speed Controls

On video platforms like YouTube or media apps like VLC, users are able to control the playback speed of their videos. They can slow things down or they can speed it up. The good news for Netflix users is that if you were hoping to get these kind of controls, you’ll be pleased to learn that it is now happening.

If you watch Netflix on Android, the company has recently confirmed that they are rolling out support for playback speed controls. This will let users speed up videos by 1.25x or 1.5x, or slow down videos by 0.5x or 0.75x. However, it seems that these settings will not be saved and users will need to manually speed up or slow down their videos with every video watched.

Netflix actually started testing out this feature back in 2019 and despite it seeming like a somewhat banal feature to have, some creators have actually spoken up against it. For example actor Aaron Paul and director Braid Bird and Judd Apatow were some of those who were against it. According to Apatow’s tweet, he felt that content distributors should not get the ability to change the way content is being presented.

In a statement Netflix released to The Verge, a company spokesperson was quoted as saying, “We’ve also been mindful of the concerns of some creators. It’s why we have capped the range of playback speeds and require members to vary the speed each time they watch something new — versus fixing their settings based on the last speed they used.” For non-Android users, Netflix says they will start testing out the feature on its iOS app and also the web version, so expect support for those platforms later.
